Regarding episode 12: I really liked the insert song. Including the side story in this episode (making jam) fit really well.
Also thought they did the scene of Mimi and Sheena happily jumping into each other's arms, before Mimi realizes they're still fighting, justice. That's one of my favorite parts of that chapter.

    >>4606588
Damn, I really did not expect them to end on the Ari/Esta chapter. To me that would only make sense if they're super confident in getting a second season (as unlikely as it is), because why else would they not end on the main characters?
It's also somewhat amusing that viewers not familiar with the source material will probably think this episode is trying to setup an Ari/Esta angle, which in the manga is definitely not the case. If Esta were to be paired up again with someone it'd be with Rika.

On the other hand, it's also impossible to adapt the chapters after the 2 Ari/Esta chapters, and still end on a satisfying note (without rushing anything). They'd have to adapt at least 3 chapters in 1 episode for that to work (the health exam and Sheena getting jealous, talking to Ari about it, the entire classroom scene).
So I'm guessing the very last scene in episode 13 will probably be Mimi/Sheena. Maybe them just lazing in bed, or making cookies.

Anime only here. The first episode didn't really grab me but I gave it another shot and ended up really liking it. The Seiran arc was heartbreaking, but unlike a certain other show, it felt true to the tone of the story and respectful to the choices of the characters, and to their grief. Mimi and Sheena ended up being a much more likeable couple than I initially thought, especially in recent episodes. How does the manga compare, and how much further ahead is it?

The anime gives more focus to the action than the anime does, it also adds a lot of anime original and extra chapter/side story content, especially about the teachers who get their humanizing moments way earlier in the anime than in the manga
The manga places more emphasis on the heavy and melancholic atmosphere
The anime is around chapter 20 while the manga is on chapter 42 and apparently heading into it's final arcs
    >>
    >>4607062
Thanks. I'm surprised to hear that about the action. Even the anime felt like it was trying keep the fighting less exciting and more horrifying, treating it like an actual war.

I would absolutely recommend the manga, some really fantastic stuff happens from chapter 26 onwards (assuming episode 13 will adapt up to chapter 26). Though I'd also recommend simply starting at chapter 1 (even if it's just to see and appreciate the differences between the manga and the anime).

    >>4607062
    >manga is heading into its final arcs
That's never been explicitly said anywhere, right? Not a bad assumption given we're 9 volumes in, but still.

I find it kind of odd that this series hasn't really had any explicit "are we the baddies?" moments, given that the only things we know about the side the girls fight for is that they use child soldiers and hide the real reason for the war from the public.
    >>
    >>4608107
Chapter 26 of the manga gets into why it's kept under wraps, but I think the series is really about how the war is unjustifiable (even if they weren't the baddies) and the girls should do everything they can to escape it. I think the ultimate conflict isn't about ending the war but about making Mimi mortal again.

I liked todays episode a lot, though it definitely didn't feel like a "finale" like episode 12 did.
Overall I think we got an extremely solid adaptation, with some fantastic voice acting and OST.
I still think the manga is (slightly) superior art-wise, and simply because of the story beats that the anime never reached.
Most of the tweaks the anime made landed for me, except for the lead up to Seiran's death. I still think that scene is a lot more impactful in the manga because it somewhat takes you by surprise. The other changes made sense though, like introducing Haru and Rika a little bit earlier.
All in all I'm very satisfied by this adaptation and I think the staff was pretty passionate about it as well. The only thing left to do now is to reread the manga for the hundredth time while waiting for new chapters to drop, all whilst praying for a happy ending.

    >The large flower on the left is a classic pansy (Viola × wittrockiana), with broad white outer petals and a deep purple/violet center (often with yellow markings).

    >Primary meaning: “Thoughts” / “I am thinking of you” (from the French pensée = thought).
    >Other common associations: remembrance, loving thoughts, consideration, and sometimes free-spirited or playful affection.

    >In Japanese hanakotoba (flower language), pansies and related violas frequently carry the same idea of “thoughtfulness” or “thinking of someone.”
    >>
    >These white flowers are Scabiosa (commonly known as Pincushion Flower or Matsumushisou / 松虫草 in Japan).

    >In floriography and Japanese hanakotoba, Scabiosa carries deeply poignant and layered meanings:

    >Core Symbolism & Hanakotoba
    >"I have lost all" (私はすべてを失った / Watashi wa subete wo ushinatta)
    >"Unfortunate Love" / "Sad Love" (不幸な愛 / Fukō na ai)
    >"Starting from zero" / "A fresh start" (無からの出発 / Mu kara no shuppatsu)

    >Color-Specific Meaning (White)
    >While Scabiosa historically carries mournful undertones in Western traditions (traditionally given to widows), white scabiosa specifically shifts the nuance toward:
    >Purity, peace, and rebirth
    >Sympathy, mourning, and quiet condolence
    >>
    >Gerberas in general symbolize hope (希望), always moving forward / progressing (常に前進), cheerfulness, and beauty. Their bright, upright, sun-like form conveys positivity and resilience.
    >Orange gerberas specifically mean endurance / patience / perseverance (我慢強さ), adventurous spirit (冒険心), and mystery (神秘). English associations often add warmth, enthusiasm, and “you are my sunshine.”
    >Christmas Cactus (Schlumbergera) Because it blooms in harsh or dark conditions (winter), cacti in general represent endurance and ardent/steadfast love. The Christmas cactus specifically carries the meaning of lasting affection and overcoming hardship.

How much does the anime cover, and how much would be needed for a hypothetical season 2?
    >>
    >>4610333
    >>4610340
The anime adapted up to chapter 25, so technically there's enough for a second season as there are now 50 chapters. But in practice you can't just adapt whenever without first considering if there's a good ending point first.
    >>
    >>4610347
There are only 42 chapters in the main story as of now. There are also 6 chapters from the "side story" volume, but some of that content was already covered by the anime. And the content the anime didn't cover from the side stories is pretty much too side story to be adapted. But hopefully there will be a s2 in a few years.

I want to pick up on both KimiShinu and AdaShima, so I will watch both anime, see what I like more and, accordingly, decide which manga to read first after this.
Why should I start with KimiShinu?
    >>
    >>4612949
Because it's better. And also, for something unbiased: improved/smoother reading experience because there's only a manga. Not a LN and two manga adaptations.
    >>
    >>4612954
    >Not a LN and two manga adaptations
Yeah it seems kind of complicated and I don't really feel like something for which you need a tour guide. However, most of what I read recently was pretty light-hearted.

This is precisely why ending the anime on this chapter is a little odd. Manga spoilers: no, Ari x Esta is not a thing. Ari has definitely not "moved on" from Seiran. Esta a little more so. Her love was also unrequited, perhaps making it somewhat easier, and it's also probably why she does have something of another implied love interest (Rika). But I think Ari will always remain in love with Seiran.
