They already confirmed they wanna make a sequel in less than a decade, so the resolution is just delayed by 9 more years, cheer up!

i watched the movie now that it's available, but there was nothing relevant beyond what the leaks said
the new girls were total filler, they disappeared as hastily as they had appeared, all the action was just lots of stuff exploding until someone is revealed to be the winner, and the dialogue was a mixture of unnecessary lore drops and re-threading stuff we already knew
as expected the only part with a semblance of lasting importance was the last 15 minutes, which amounted to a cliffhanger, again
it's not that i wanted a definitive conclusion at all costs, it'd be nothing but nice to have a long-running series that is both yuri-friendly and high-budget for a change, but if the way they go about that is keep making up random stuff to drag things on and delay tackling the thing that actually matters, it just cheapens it in the end
now for the next decade we're left looking forward to a new movie that is set to be about, guess what, homura trying to save madoka from the law of cycles, for the third time in a row
it would be one thing if this was a monthly manga, but come next entry we'll have gone 2 decades waiting for a resolution to that plot point, and we can't even know for sure that we'll actually get it anymore

Another problem is that people generally have less interest in the series' lore and care more about the characters themselves; the downside is that the lore will likely continue to be pushed to the forefront. This film would have worked better as a separate continuity a way to introduce new elements, rather than as a continuation of a story that, by this point, should have already been resolved. If the previous film established something, that needs to be brought to a conclusion; you shouldn't just keep adding more to the mix and pretending that’s a good thing.

There could have been a whole TV anime just about getting new SoL moments for the girls while Punished Sayaka struggles with her memories.
Wrap up by either having Homura finally accept Madokami and get taken away to rest, or if she's still too stubborn then set up some final equilibrium where she loops her suffering while chasing Madoka forever.

It really could have been that simple.
