Well that's ominous. Lemme guess, the other girls have boyfriends or worse.

How many CGDCT anime were there back then? I can only think of this and Haruhi
    >>
    >>4488153
I don’t think Haruhi is CGDCT, like at all. A better example of CGDCT from that time would be Hidamari Sketch
    >>
    >>4454892
I’m not the first person to point this out, but the newer generation of fans seem to focus on what’s in explicitly in the source material, whereas with the older generation it was more about whether we as fans wanted to imagine the characters together.
    >>
    >>4409399
I swear I read some time ago the mangaka said that one of them had a crush for the other.

    There's any source for that?
    >>
    >>4488163
Sometimes I miss the old days.

Nowadays it feels like subtext doesn't exist for most people (is either yuri or bait) and they can't be happy unless we have a kiss on screen.
    >>
    >>4488153
Azumanga Daioh, Hidamari Sketch, and Ichigo Mashimaro.

    >>4488163
    >>4488166
That's obviously bullshit given that Bokita and ChisaTaki are the hottest couples of the last couple of years.
    >>
    >>4488166
    >>4488175

I think it’s two groups of people. There are still tons of people who like classic-style shipping (I’m one of them), of course.

But now that there’s actually media with explicit lesbian representation, you also get people who like that and want to see it — they don’t care or know about shipping, they just want to enjoy cute couples. Which is fair enough but kind of annoying when they intrude on fan spaces imo
    >>
    >>4488163
    >>4488165
    >>4488179
It's not actually that complex and it really has nothing to do with generations.

It's simply people who like couples or potential couples based on their personality or interactions, and as this anonymous person says: >>4488175

The existence of yuri series with explicit pairings doesn't automatically mean people will stop shipping the characters (especially if they have good chemistry). Some people in the yuri community seem to have the foolish idea that more explicit series mean people will stop pairing their favorite characters. What's happening is that the pairings are now more blatant or have stronger foundations, as mentioned with Bokita and ChisaTaki. People fell in love with the character dynamic. Something similar can be said about HibiMeshi, or why Atori and Suzu work so well together despite Suzu hating Atori and being obsessed with Yuu.
    >>
    >>4488184
I think there’s a big gap between people who have fun shipping their favorite characters, regardless of what took place in the show (Suzu and Atori is a good example of this), and people who just want to see girls kissing and react negatively to anything they perceive as subtext or bait

    >>people who just want to see girls kissing and react negatively to anything they perceive as subtext or bait

These people don't seem to enjoy yuri in the first place. As another anon said in a general thread, they act like people investing money and value yuri based on the return on that investment, which is really stupid when it comes to entertainment.

These people don't seem to understand the enjoyment of seeing those characters together either. Personally, and I know I'm part of a small minority, I love the Yuu and Rura pairing in Bad Girl (this also applies to Kaede and Riri and AssLily). Every little moment the series or the author delivers makes me relatively happy. The same goes for other pairings of that type. It's not about being canon or super official, but about enjoying the happiness that the happiness of those characters can give you, and if there's something official about it, all the better.
    >>
    >>4488222
You said that well, I have nothing to add really.

    >they act like people investing money and value yuri based on the return on that investment
Can you say more about this? Do you mean return like, how popular the series gets or how far the characters’ relationship progresses or…?
    >>
    >>4488175
    >That's obviously bullshit given that Bokita and ChisaTaki are the hottest couples of the last couple of years.
You don't know with how many poeple I had arge about Bokita because they tought that there was nothing here because aparently a girl that has fantasies with having gilrfriends getting jealous when her most close friend a (girl) gets a boyfriend (thatwas a misunderstanding, btw) and trying to surpass that boyfriend isn't enough.
With ChisaTaki, I still remember all people who complained about not having a kiss, neither a confession when LycoReco ended.
Same thing hapenned with Jellyfish, we actually had a kiss and still complained saying that "it was bait all along" becayse there was no confession.
I know that not everyone is like that, but I felt like in the past there was not so many people.
    >>
    >>4488222
Please think about this a little more than not at all.
    Q:
A series that clearly does not want to give you yuri or outright refuses it in canon vs. a series that actually does have yuri and cares about it: Which is better?
    A:
Braindead shippers who don't actually care about the characters, plot or yuri: "Whichever I find hotter/cuter"
Actual yuri fans: "The one that is actually intended to be yuri and work that into the characters arcs and growth."

That is the true dichotomy here. You are trying very hard to portray shippers as the ones who genuinely like yuri, when it's the opposite. They are incredibly shallow in their approach. They take what's on the surface and claim now it's yuri because they like to imagine it is. This simply is getting less and less tolerated by actual yuri fans.
That is not to say fanworks for subtext series are wrong. If a writer or artist can make the couple sensibly work by considering what is actually there, then all the more power to them. But that is not what 99% of this garbage shipping is really about. It's just "these two look cute together/shared a screen for 5 seconds" level most of the time.
    >It's about enjoying the happiness that the happiness of those characters can give you
You don't seem to understand that you are just giving non-yuri content carte blanche that way. You are basically one of those idiots who says superfriendship is good enough. You are missing the point of yuri. Romance/Sex/Attraction between two girls. Anything below that is usually no good.
    >>
    >>4488285
    >aparently a girl that has fantasies with having gilrfriends getting jealous when her most close friend a (girl) gets a boyfriend (thatwas a misunderstanding, btw) and trying to surpass that boyfriend isn't enough
You are failing to mention that this is a comedic series that doesn't take this kind of stuff seriously. Bocchi is a mentally ill mess that is otaku-coded, so it always comes down to relatable references for the incels.
BTR is a pretty good example of how incredibly surface popular "subtext" ships actually are. The show and manga are very clear that these girls are just friends, but the fandom is trying extremely hard to overstate every interaction and gag. You know who doesn't have to bend their spine to make a pairing look yuri? People who read actual yuri.
    >people complained about not having a kiss or confession in LycoReco
Rightfully fucking so. That anime is yuri baiting. It clearly has no intention of going actually romantic, but it will bait as many yurifags as it can while selling waifu merch to the hetshitters that 100% don't even consider anything yuri happening in that anime.
LycoReco fanworks have more to work with than most, but calling the anime yuri as many retards have done is a straight up lie.
    >Jellyfish had a kiss people still called it bait
You are completely misrepresenting the discourse about that show.

    >>4489393
You are intentionally missing the point. Shipping is irrelevant, I am saying that calling subtext anime proper yuri works is a lie. I am saying that popular ships based on shallow as fuck source material are terrible, but the main point was to rebuke anon acting like said yuribait/subtext anime is actually totally yuri because there was some kind of incel otaku joke made. Genuinely claiming Bocchi is into girls because of such minor bullshit is a stretch, but calling it a yuri relevant anime is even dumber.

I can see this more for actual explicit series for 2 main reasons. 1: why support a couple when they're clearly not the endgame. 2: If they are the endgame, why make fan content when the main series satisfies that itch
    >>4488230
I imagine he means that they expect a payoff if they're supporting a couple, so how far a relationship progresses.

    >>
    >>4527399
Once again, you didn't get the point. It's fine to be a loser and pretend your het girls are totally dating in fan art and doujins. But don't call the SOURCE MATERIAL yuri then. That's the distinction here. It's misleading and delusional at best. Lucky Star has no yuri. It has very, very weak subtext that is anime original at that, but it's not yuri. That doesn't mean these ships aren't yuri ships, it just makes the source material irrelevant.
    >>
    >>4549726
No one cares, loser. Lucky Star has been claimed by the yuri fandom and there's nothing you can do about it.
    >>
    >>4549727
Except the actual majority of the fanbase for this series aren't yurifags and don't care about the yuri delusions. So that's like saying the yuri fandom claimed Attack on Titan or something equally insane. It doesn't reflect the real fanbase. What you actually mean is that minority of shipping focused fans claim this irrelevant anime as a yuri anime to satisfy their own delusions.
Again, it's fine to actually make yuri art because you like your ship so much, but keep the sane distinction that the source material isn't yuri.
    >>
    >>4549730
You and your ilk are not the majority.
    >>
    >>4549730
I've always been under the impression that the Konata/Kagami ship is pretty much universal. Like, every person I've physically interacted with is on some level on board with it.
A few different groups exist in there, from the ones that think they're gay, to the ones that think only Kagami is gay while Konata is just a porn-addict who'd say yes to everything, to Kagami isn't gay, but can't handle the flirtation, to niether are gay, but Konata flirts to be a shit, and Kagami is stubborn to the point of playing gay chicken to not lose to this, until they're making out ironically.
