I hate NuTrek but it now feels like a minor miracle we got the TNG crew back together one last time.
>>224052698It was a miracle. And they, of course, totally fucked up that miracle of opportunity.
>>224053451What went wrong?
>>224052698Season 3 was actually somehow pretty ok. They took a rancid piece of trash and managed to make it decent. Almost like its a soft reboot of that trash fire.
>>224052698>Brent Spinner is too old to play Data convincingly and we cba to de-age him>Ummm Data is just a normal ageing guy now!
>>224052698>troi looks much older but still alright>crusher looks like she got her face crushed
>>224053451>It was a miracle. And they, of courselet the guy that understood it go. This is the closest new trek felt to real trek so of course Kurtzman felt threatened and abandoned what it could have led to (Legacy)
>>224052698TNG ended perfectly, there was no need for this.
>>224053971There was after the movies ruined everything
I liked parts of it. Some of the stuff with Riker and his grief managed to be touching. But then you have goofy shit like Jack, who is just an awful fanfic character, and a constant feeling of this being an indulgent fan-wank self-applauding victory lap.I'm sure if you've been a fan for decades or worked on it there's real catharsis, but as someone that only got into Star Trek in 2021 I barely even remember most of it. I still think "All Good Things" is a better ending, though I guess Picard is less offensive than Nemesis.
>>224054056>But then you have goofy shit like JackThat was clearly just attempting to populate the potential Legacy cast
Was there a reason why Will Wheaton wasn't on? Surely people don't hate him that much
>>224054082Too unstable. Stunning and Brave is only acceptable if it's merely acting and under control. Disrupting the filming schedule costs money and Wil is the type to go running to social media to spill the beans over any minor perceived micro aggression. No one wants to deal with that.
>>224054401He’s a total idiot. It might’ve been cool to see a reappearance of Wesley if it was done right. If such a goal was even possible given how unpopular the character was/is.
>>224053451FPBP
>>224054082>>224054401he was already in season 2, they explained it with some garbage about travellers arent allowed to interact with people from their former life.
It was still pandering shit but Picard but nowhere near as bad as the first two seasons
>>224054082people don't hate him enough
>>224054677Did they explain how pic related was possible? Haven't watched Trek consistently since sometime during the TNG movie era.
>>224052698And there it is, it might have been the biggest shit ever filmed, but you guys would still see it because "omg, so much fanservice!".
>>224054740In universe, he manifested that way to be there with them. Out of universe, they just forgot.
The worst part about it was unfortunately Stewart himself. I don't know what character he was playing but it wasn't Picard. Weak, timid, soft-spoken, anemic, apologetic and pathetic. And you know he had substantial creative control over both what Picard had ended up being like and how to play him. It's a terrible shame.
>>224054677And then he interacted with his mom in Prodigy.
>>224054759>omg, so much fanservice! So fucking what? When did making fans happy become this bad thing?
>>224054772Because it's all style over substance. Nobody talks about the plot of that season, or the villians or whatever else. It's always "OMG, FANSERVICE". If I want to see Enterprise D again, I can go watch TNG. Give me interesting story that people want to talk about istead of dangling keys in front of my face.
>>224053971Correct but fans are mentally ill infants now.
>>224054788Forgot to add, this season added Picards son, AND NO ONE CARES. That's how little it mattered.
>>224054764Stewart wasn't a writer and never really understood the character, as evidenced by the movies where he had much more clout and creative freedom. He was a good actor that needed solid writing to squash his bad ideas. Unfortunately nuTrek and modern media in general is a bastion of bad writing so there was never really any hope.
>>224054810I tend to agree, it's just hard to accept that he could play a character for so long and so well and simply not get it. He wasn't a stupid man either so it's so strange.
There was a rumor that Picard was meant to die in season 1 for real. And given how awkward his sudden "return" via golem was, I think they really wanted to do it, and then hastily rewrote the ending.>You are an immortal golem now, except we only gave you whatever few years you have left to live, because reasons, lol
>>224054810I think it was less "never understood", and more "give me something cool to do, all I do is sit in a chair and give speeches. Let me kick some ass already!". And they did. And it just didn't feel like Picard, but made Stewart happy.
