What exactly did he do to get unalived while serving in a non-combat role?"
>>224050137In the novel, his fate is left unclear and he does not imply or even suggest that Frodo and Sam are dead. Rather, the meeting at the Black Gate is a legitimate parley, to some extent. As such, both parties go their separate ways.In the film however, he directly references with great delight that Frodo and Sam were tortured to death and the implication is that he personally witnessed it, if not was directly involved.Torturing prisoners of war, let alone executing them, is under no circumstance the responsibility of a "non-combat role" and thus he forfeits his delusion of protection. All in all, I don't dislike the interpretation. It's definitely one of those characters that was open to changing and fiddling with, though I get why it was cut from the theatrical edit. That being said, I wish he had gotten a 1:1 adaptation of the parley. It was a great moment in the book and really helped humanize Sauron, if that makes sense. The conversation establishes a lot of character for Sauron's broader and more down-to-earth intentions, rather than the overarching and much more ambiguous evil he is portrayed as in most media.Again, I get why these moments aren't portrayed in the films. You can't have all that shit and the movies are explicitly written to be about Frodo. I applaud the screenwriters for what they accomplished. What I really wish is that Rings of Power wasn't so fucking Jewish, because THAT was the opportunity for lore dumps and Age of Empires type shit. Instead it's Hunger Games level of Galadriel fanfiction. FUCK.
The whole non combatant thing only matters when both sides pretend it does.
>>224050137Aragorn did not come under a flag of truce. He specifically said "Let the Lord of the Black Land come forth! Let justice be done upon him!" Then out comes this dumb nigga, and announces to Aragron that they'd captured Frodo and tortured him. Aragorn, following through on his initial statement, proceeds to do justice upon him.
>>224050137You don't address the King of Gondor and the heir of Numenor in such a manner, by alluding to the torture and death of a dear friend We understand this is a foreign concept to the third world and are more than gracious to explain it to you melanated hordes At this point in the story Aragorn is the strongest human fighter in middle earth barring the top Elven Champions from tens of thousands of years before, talking to someone like that is basically signing your own execution certificate and begging to be killed
>yeah we tortured POWs, what about it?>WHOA DUDE YOU CAN'T JUST KILL OUR DIPLOMAT THAT'S AGAINST THE RULESsetting the rules of engagement then balking when your foe meets you at that level is pure pussified behavior
