The aunt died angry that she never got to be a loving housewife because her husband died in WWII, so all of the household appliances associated with motherhood (the blankets on the bed, the piano, etc) are haunted by her evil spirit and seek to destroy the girls so they can’t experience what she never had either. The plot makes perfect sense: the humor, the style - unappealing and loud.

Taking this movie seriously is like taking Young Frankenstein seriously. It's a comedy/parody.
I really enjoy the way it tells the story, it felt unique and not "random". It does have a coherent plot too, more like a fairytale but honestly more plot and characterization than most horror movies being shit out now
I suppose lesser people would get turned off by the movie's SOVL
