Were the 90s simply better, or was it all just acting/tv?
I've been rewatching ER and man, people seemed way less stressed.
>>
Yes
>>
>>224048193
90s was competency porn. 2020s is therapy porn. Know the difference. It can save your life.
>>
>>224048193
To be fair this show started to go down the tubes relatively quickly. They kept trying to do this revolving door of characters after Clooney left. The Greene cancer arc was really tastefully done though.

S1-S5 were kino,
S6-S8 was when the formula started to get really old. Once romano got crushed by a helicopter (twice btw) the show had completely jumped the shark
>>
>>224048193
Yes. Life was better for everyone in the 90s. I think it's hard to understand if you weren't alive then. People in America were optimistic and happy, the future looked bright, and we had a very strong middle class with an amazingly high standard of living.
>>
>>224048193
Everything changed after 9/11 and also the internet is the biggest change that society has had in a long time.
>>
Life was not better IMO, but you thought tomorrow will be better. That is the difference.
>>
There were still strong regulations in the 90s forcing corporations to provide value back to the community and not destroy the environment or try to scam people. Raegan had already started to erode them but it hadn’t gotten too bad until the mid 00s and America bankrupted itself in many wars in the Middle East. That’s when they just let corporations do whatever because they needed the money.
>>
>>224048193
obama killed optimism and any hope for unity in this country
>>
>>224048193
>people seemed way less stressed
We were less stressed.
>>
>>224048256
Rec me competency porn. And when can we start getting more?
>>
>>224048193
normies just create a 24/7 stress circus for whatever reason
>>
>>224048374
>the internet is the biggest change that society has had in a long time.
Yah, I miss when people's understanding of reality was the world they actually interacted with, largely
>>
>>224048193
People still were not constantly connected to world events and whatnot with cell phones and internet.

There was a ton of optimism in the air that I don't think a lot of people can quite understand unless you lived it.

We were also in a far better place economically.
>>
>>224048193
No, life is pointless and gay, it doesn't matter what decade it was

JAG, Star Trek: TNG.
>>
>>224048447
This is true. Its like people have been trained with a new feedback loop or something. The amount of times I see people react to literal non issues with big emotional reactions is really strange.
>>
>>224048464
Second this along with the first five or six seasons of Law and Order.
>>
>>224048432
Leftists that I've seen on YouTube do believe in exactly this
Their argument is Obama basically thought everyone that liberalism and voting will never fix anything
Having hope as your campaign slogan does seem like a retarded idea in retrospect
>>
>>224048193

I noticed in the past 20 or 25 years, local news has mostly gone away while everyone has tuned into 24 hour news cycle stuff like CNN or Fox. Or they just constantly stay on twitter/YT/whatever for their news.

The days of people thinking small are over. Everyone is paranoid now, nobody gives a flying fuck about their community. Most don't even know their neighbor's name.
>>
>>224048454
Now people know and talk about a lot of things that aren't related to their lives and their actual lives are a secondary thing.

It was and it wasn’t. Shit like In Living Color was a “black” show but it was genuinely funny. Race relations took a massive nosedive after the 90s, I suspect as a divide and rule type thing. Prior to that the Cold War favoured unity of purpose.

My father was stressing for a month over eggs prices in Australia
We live in Belgium
Online news make you believe everything is happening right outside of your door.
Everyone will legitimately be happier if they realized local news are the only thing they should ever watch
>>
>>224048531
It is wild the shit people care about, and know about, that 25 years ago they simple would know nothing about. And the converse as well.
I am so happy I deleted all social media in 2011, and have heavily regulated my internet usage. I swear I am just a normal guy from 2005 who has time travelled to 2026. And I am, unsurprisingly, very optimistic person who is rarely stressed.
Whenever people as me for a solution, to return to better times, I tell them to just delete about a dozen apps and happiness can be theirs. They never do.

Internet broke apart any cohesive mainstream. When I was a kid The MTV Movie Awards was a major event and everyone in school would be talking about it for a week. People had their favorite shows and movies and songs but we were all generally watching and listening to the same stuff. Now when I see hosts and musical guests on SNL I rarely know who they are.
>>
>>224048193
In every regard, yes. People were less stressed and generally speaking much much happier.
People can come to their own conclusions for why that is.
>>
>>224048349
The thing people need to realize though, is that their future was sold out to provide that short lived prosperity. NAFTA in 1994 and normalizing trade with China in 1999-2000 utterly destroyed the middle class.
>>
>>224048837
Boomers inherited a massive amount of wealth and had no concept of what it took to earn it. And it still wasn't enough for them lol, so they sold out their own children all for a 2nd or 3rd house.

And people wonder why there is so much resentment towards boomers and gen x'ers. Boomers sold us out while Gen X let it happen because the spoils were still too good.
>>
>>224048837
>>224048938
I would also argue that the late 90s tech boom started an economic bubble that's still inflating.
>>
>>224049148
Valid. I think that bubble popping would be like an alcoholic admitting they have a problem though.

even though I was born in 2005, just through osmosis its pretty easy to realize that the 90s were essentially a utopia compared to today

>90s interior design
What? You have a problem with Millennial Greyscale aka Prison Chic?
Truly though, we must study the 90s like how the renaissance masters studied the classical. just admit it was a civilization superior to our own, and that we should be attempting to live to its standards.

Did I say anything that wasn't true? Productivity output has risen yet standard of living has declined.
Eventually you gotta admit our leaders have done us wrong.
They present no solutions, only divide and conquer nonsense.

calling stuff [thing]porn predates -maxxing and -pilled though, by probably a decade

Boomers will have squatted in the Oval Office for 36 years when Trump's term is up. There were rumors of Al Gore running again in 2028, so it's conceivable they could have 40 fucking years of running the country into the ground.
>>
>>224048193
I was having a lot more fun in the 90s than I am having right now.

Nope, that makes no sense. Generations are not 15 years. People don't get fucking married and have kids at age 15. Generations are about 20 years. Gen X is 1960-1979, you fucking Millennial shitstain.
