Just watched this piece of shit.
    What a waste of bandwidth.
Is The Lighthouse also this bad or is that actually worth watching?
    >>
if vvervvülf sucks too i'm never trusting this asshole with buying theatre tickets again

I like The Witch and hated Nosferatu.
When I get around to watching The Lighthouse, that'll decide if I'm done with this faggot or not. Everyone has a bad day that turns into a bad project, but claiming ten years for something that's about the level of Netflix slop is not promising.
    >>
    >>224044786
How? The only bad aspect was the main character (Lilly Rose Depp) - her acting and her story was shit. But other than her, it was gothic kino.

    Lighthouse > VVitch > Nosferatu > Northman
Looking forward to his new wolfman one

my complaint would be the second half, love dafoe but he took me out of it, as you said depp, the pacing felt weird, too fast and slow at the same time. the shots were of course beautiful, he does know how to make a great looking film
    >>
The Lighthouse is so much better than Nosferatu
This >>224045011 anon has it right
    >>
northman worth a watch? saw some clips on youtube and the scene of them rowing up the river looked amazing and the music was great
    >>
    >>224045211
It's okay. A predictable revenge story, but well executed.
    >>
    >>224044786
The Lighthouse is better because it's an original story and Willem Dafoe goes wild in his role.

Eggers' Nosferatu is a too-faithful remake, and dull in its predictability. Just another Dracula iteration to add to list. If you must watch a Nosferatu remake, watch Herzog's.

I loved Lighthouse when it came out but I hated Nosferatu. Maybe I would hate Lighthouse now too in retrospect.

Let's just cut the bullshit and say what we all know: he only has two good films, The Witch and The Lighthouse.

Everything made by eggers is absolute dog shit.
    >>
Northman is shit, from the trailer you think its some epic journey across the country with them doing raids and cool shit

when in reality that part is like 15 minutes and the rest of the film is on that shitty farm

Witch is kino Lighthouse is kino if you like more experimental films. You’ll either love it or hate it, but it’s highly immersive so you can’t half ass it watching on your fucking iPad or whatever.

this and the Lighthouse are very similar in that the beginning is 10/10 amazing and the end is confusing/uncomfortable.
    >>
    >>224044786
The lighthouse is pretty great for it's visuals alone, but if you know anything about anything you'll know exactly how it ends 30 minutes in.

I was really torn on it for that reason.
But it is very entertaining and well done.

    Nosferatu is mid at best.
The Lighthouse is still his best movie to date although The Northman was very close to overtaking it
    >>
    Lighthouse>>Northman>>>>VVitch>Nosferatu
    >>
First half of Nosferatu was good, just like all stories of Dracula it turns to shit when it's in London. One day they will and should leave out that part entirely. Skip it or do something else.

The lighthouse is nothing special. Just a taste of the times, working hard and getting fucked over by your boss. Could make it a better movie by there actually being something to the lighthouse, like they go into some kind of lighted world. But some little way out through them wondering if it's their imagination that expands the longer they dwell so, and can be to their peril like outside the island, walking on air with water below. Having to believe in something to survive. People getting what they want. See that in horror as heaven.

    Mer Movie:

Guy is left on an island as reward for being rebellious.

He finds water by digging then by walking. There's plenty of vegetables and fruit. Farmed by former occupants. A shack of sorts from shapes of smashed hulls.

He's alone. Sleeps most of the time for the dreams.

Swimming he sees a face. Follows it far out. Makes the choice to go back drunken with happy ever after via company cancelled by nowhere to share nothing with.

He makes it back. Sleeps on the beach. Awakens to himself pulled towards the water. Tries to pull her to land.

    The Dilemma.

They meet at the edge. Every day. All day. Sometimes into the night. She's beautiful but interprets the books that have floated to the bottom differently.

Words are like letters. A page saying a long word she sings.

People arrive and "rescue" him. Even as he fights back.

He doesn't know the name of the island. They won't tell him.

She follows and he worries she'll be lost too. Too far out. Nowhere to rest. At Mercy of sharks, fishermen and schools. Universities.

He's locked like an animal himself. He screams. They shut him up with blows with rifles. He steals gunpowder during the sessions. Takes a rifle. Loads it during stabs and blows. And shoots them. Shoots his bindings. A ball each and then an island of a ship he doesn't know how to sail.

He makes sense of maps and instruments like the Mermaid. She helps. Through holes in the wall. He fills a tub for her. She sleeps exhausted.

He guesses. Goes wherever seems right.

They enjoy the aimless time like already there. Her having a wealth of new material to play with. She invents some new ways. Like on deck drawing the stars as they turn.
She dips into the water which scares him.
One day excited she takes his hand like she has found something. His fear keeps them aboard. Then he realises the Island may be nothing to her but him. Her place out. And maybe here.
He overcomes fear and takes a rope down. Meets other Mer. The girl kisses him and s

I liked the movie but the original story it's a Dracula plagio so it feels too predictable
    >>
The Vviking (tm) felt like he was trying to impress studio execs. It was bog standard revenge schlock. It didn't feel like his style at all.
Like he was barely in control of it.....
Maybe they fucked him over in editing or something. It's been known to happen with directors when they first get in charge of a really big budget studio film.

The lighthouse is his best movie. It's also Willem Dafoe's best role, and that's saying a lot, considering how good of an actor he is.

I have not seen the Witch but I think all his other movies are in the 6 to 7/10 range, which makes him a great director by modern standards.. :)

I never saw the old Nosferatu so this movie pissed me off, but it turns out that it's a faithful adaptation to original so that made me a little less pissed off about it. It still sucks and I feel like the movie is only half good, as in you could shut it off halfway through and enjoy it more.
