You think you’ve got it bad? I just wanna come in to another The Thing thread.
>>
You think Gary deep down wanted to fuck the couch?

>I'LL CHECK YOU

Of all the parts in this movie, the guy who walked in on the other guy being slowly assimilated was by far the worst. It's like an even more explicit scene from The Blob
>>
>being replaced at the cellular level while you are digested is le bad
>>
not sure whether it was the right choice to make the movie ambiguous on purpose. im not saying a conclusion should have been served on a platter, and carpenter made the right choice to never reveal anything, but it would be neat to be able to come to an objective conclusion by analyzing the movie, although it would never be confirmed. still fun to theorize, but its impossible to really figure things out.

anyway, if you ask me, neither survivor was the thing at the end and they died as unsung heroes.
>>
>>224041525
I liked it a lot but with reflection, sure the thing can replicate and look like you, but knowing perfect english and customs was a bit far for me
>>
I ain't going with OP
>>
>>224041677
if he was The Thing why did he make the noose?
>>
>>224041677
I'm all better now. I just want to post.
>>
I'm not the Thing. See? Look at these singles.
>>
>>224043380
I imagine it was his intention to hang himself as he was probably still human at that point, he slowly changed in the shed and the thing didn't want to hang itself
>>
>>224043878
what bothers me is the he/it tried to build an ufo, or any aircraft for that matter. always thought that seemed ridiculous in an otherwise straight-played movie.
>>
>>224042226
It is objective to reach the true conclusion and there is plenty of on screen evidence for it. However, contrarians will still deny it no matter what because they prefer the le ambiguous silliness. It's easier to just let them believe their delusions.
>>
If the Norwegians really cared about stopping the monster they’d have crashed their helicopter into the dog
>>
>>224044044
It's just running on vibes. It's not actually intelligent or capable of intentional long-term planning.
>>
>>224044441
do you think carpenter and the rest of the crew are trolling us? as far as i remember there are several interviews out there in which they state something among the lines of that there is no clear plot and its up to the viewers to make it up themselves. there is for example the scene where the infected dog stands in front a room, the occupant of which is only seen by his shadow, and is none of the crew, but the actor who played myers in halloween.
>>
>>224044470
damn swedes.
>>
>>224042088
The best part is he drops the keys there and you can hear it. So the thing finished assimilating then picked them up.
>>
>>224044470
while would you shoot a dog before crashing a helicopter onto it
>>
>>224044626
the whole film was a dream by the main character. he had isolation sickness, cabin fever and was halleucinating, based on the communist red scare that was prevalent at the time
>>
>>224041700
I thfought you'd feel that way Gary, you couch fucker!
>>
>>224044626
it was clearly Norris, you can tell by the hair and sweater in the shadow.
>>
>>224044882
i prefere the unfounded theory that it was an analogy to the aids scare. i also heard that macready is supposed to be a vietnam veteran, but its not really referenced in in the movie. maybe he wears wears a military overall, not sure.
>>
>>224044999
thats the weird thing about it. they got another actor to throw the audience off, but his profile looked a lot like norris.
>>
>>224045092
maybe it was bill shatner.
>>
the 'he gave him gasoline to drink to find out if he's the thing' theory is the dumbest shit in the world
>>
So when could have Kurt Russell become the thing towards the end of the movie after he flames 3 or 4 things, isnt he in pretty much every scene?

Perfect imitation, including the defects.
If someone had cancer it would imitate that too, thinking it was a normal part of the person.

One interpretation is that it doesn't even act and and speak of it's own accord, rather that its imitation, including the brain, keeps going as it would have without it.
>>
>>224045575
that's more or less what it does in the original story, eats the first guy then tells everyone it escaped because that he'd do
seems harder to square in the movie where it does scheme somewhat
>>
>>224045647
I've actually read it once, but I don't remember every plot point. "The Things" also kind of goes in that direction.

he didnt deserve what happened to him, great lad. while they figure out a lot about the thing in a short time, they carelessly dont make sure that everybody is being watched by at least another person at all times. i guess blair got infected while in isolation.

>>224045475
yeah, i heard about it. im gonna give it a go, thanks.
>>
they were all slowly becoming things at a cellular level according to Blairs research. 1 tiny particle would infect you and the cellular mimicry would begin. EVERYBODY WAS A THING.

That's why they eat from cans and prepare their own meals.
The only one that happens to is Blair himself

yeah, some think the thing is not a collective entity, but that rather each one fends for themselves. in this case it would make sense. theres also the theory that its all a ruse to gain trust or to decept, but that seems far fetched to me.
>>
>>224045834
Fuchs figured it out, that's why he killed himself. He knew everybody was changing including himself.

That sounds like a GREAT idea!
>>
>>224044626
>the dog is played by the same guy who played Michael Myers
KINO
>>
>>224045767
thats a neat idea, but then everybody would be infected by droplet infection pretty much immediately. furthermore the assimilation process proceeds very quickly.
>>
>>224045169
Towards the beginning of the movie when he drank from the same bottle what's his face did after being bit by the dog.

licked, but yeah. he passed the blood test afterwards, though. of course he could have drunk out of the bottle afterwards.

They blew up their helicopter by accident, these weren't top shelf Norwegians.

It didn't know everything. It didn't know that humans don't drink gasoline with a straight face, for example.

his mittens were slippery from eating nothing but buttery stroopwaffels.
>>
>>224042226
Fanboys have put more thought into this stuff than anyone actually involved with the movie did.
>>
>>224048608
many such cases
>>
>>224047695
>it assimilated humans and acquired human intellect, speech, even group dynamics and how to abuse them and all their memories so they can act like them
>EXCEPT for the taste of gasoline!

Worst theory literally of all time. Like something Rian Johnson would add to feel smart.

Carpenter helped write the shitty video game and in that neither Childs nor MacReady were things. Childs froze, MacReady had enough strength to walk off. Unless Carpenter himself writes a sequel movie, then that is the sequel from Carpenter himself.

Carpenter said one of them is the Thing. I believe it's Childs. When he was standing guard at that door he was close to a door leading downstairs, when the thing snuck up on I think the older guy?

Right. Childs stumbles out into the snow, then the lights go out since the generator stops. That indicates Blair is in the generator room now. The stairs right next to where Childs was standing go down into the generator room, so Blair just got done assimilating Childs. And Childs lies saying he thought he saw Blair outside, when it's obvious Blair was inside at the generator.
>>
>>224042226
you crazy whiteboy, that ending was best part.
They fought as hard as they could fight did & did all they could. At the end it was either enough or it wasnt; either way it was over.
>>
>ptsd alcoholic loser pilot
>trigger happy idiot rent a cop
>young annoying nigger
Best part in the movie is when three people from different walks of life all agree to die to try and stop The Thing
>>
>>224041525
>I'd rather not spend the rest of this winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH
kek me and a couple of my friends from college used to say this all the time after watching this
Still quote it occasionally, despite us kinda forgetting where it came from
Thanks for reminding me, anon
