Anyone else tired of how soilennials only know three horror movies and can't stop circlejerking them? Is horror really such a bad genre that there are only three movies worth talking about?
yes
>>224041024But you're a soilennial, Why is it you can only talk about those three movies?
>>224041024the thing is good thoughever
>>224041024>Is horror really such a bad genre that there are only three movies worth talking about? No, but it's not far off from that being the case. There are very few horror movies that reach the same kind of quality a lot of great dramas do.
The only good horror movie thats quality is Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
>>224041135How is that a horror movie?
>>224041024The Thing is one of my favorite movies

> Is horror really such a bad genre that there are only three movies worth talking about?Pretty much, horror is capeshit tier entertainment
>>224041024There are plenty of great horror movies it's just that those three movies in particular are considered the pinnacle of the genre by most and unlike something like say Silence of the Lambs or Psycho or Rosemary's Baby most people are comfortable with and will accept those three being discussed as horror movies usually. The Exorcist usually gets left out entirely as well because a lot of horror fans think it's just a boring family drama and not le scary enough. Overwhelmingly the genre just attracts a lot of very dumb people with very bad tastes who will reject a movie solely because of something that's ultimately so subjective and it certainly doesn't help that the audience is already so niche as it is it's inherently just a very divisive genre similar to comedy. Think about it for a second, how many pure/typical comedy movies can you think of that a majority of people actually consider to be great movies let alone materpieces? Is The Intouchables considered great because it's a super funny comedy or because it's a gripping drama with a lot of heart? How about Back to the Future: is it great because the comedy makes most people laugh out super loud constantly because it's just so funny or is it mostly everything else that makes it so good to people like the sci-fi stuff, the story, the characters etc and the comedy element is just the inoffensive icing on the cake for most similar to Pixar and Disney classics?
The Thing is reddit's favorite horror movie.>dae think Childs was da thing????
>>224041860That skeleton scene, the fact theres prostitutes asking out a 10 year old in plain sight, Harry threatened him with a gun.
>>224041024What are you talking about? Millennials are huge horror dorks. Their tastes aren't nearly as narrow as you think.r. millennial
>>224043251Alien being a horror movie isn't really undisputed.
>>224041024Meanwhile TranZ consider random footage recorded on vhs and uncommon architectural /decorational choices as horror.
>>224041024I'm tired of zoomers being spiteful little shits with my generation living rent free in their heads for some reason.
What about Jaws, Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2, Dawn of the Dead, The Fly, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, and a long etc.?
>>224041024The first HalloweenandThe Exorcist (1st)
>>224046288Yes it is. It's widely considered to be one of the greatest horror films of all time.
>>224041024Most "horror" movies are just gore porn directed by some pedo jew.
Those three movies you've posted are excellent, and there are many more great horror movies. Will I reveal them to you? Heh... We'll see about that... Heh...
These movies are easy to watch, so they're more popular. The Shining is more of a comedy than horror for me, I prefer The Texas Massacre, even though it's also quite funny.
>>224046616I don't know how you can think The Shining or Texas Chainsaw Massacre are comedies. The Shining has funny moments like Jack Nicholson's performance, but horror movies often have comedic elements in them. That doesn't make them comedies.
>>224046685It's so ridiculously bad he can't take it seriously, quite understandable really
>>224041024Horror is 99% garbage. There's a handful of oustanding movies within the genre, but honestly the majority of it is complete and utter junk. And the weird thing is, everyone knows it. Even horror fans know it's all garbage, but they love it anyway for some weird reason. It's the only genre where its fans are like this, willingly just going along with how fucking awful it is.It's so strange.
>>224041024> Is horror really such a bad genre that there are only three movies worth talking aboutYes. Horror itself makes for a pretty shit genre, and is only good when its mixed with other genres. Notice that two of the three movies you posted are also sci-fi movies.
Still The Best1990
>>224046862The Shining is a masterpiece, zoomie.
>>224048721Damn right
>>224041024I think if any generation knows the most about horror films, it's millennials. Not boomers obviously. Gen X liked horror when they were kids, but I don't think they're big on them. Raises the question - what horror films are you talking about exactly? New shitty ones?
>>224041958Good. Real life is horrific enough. A horror movie should be fun. The best ones even feel like an adventure and dont even end with any stereotypes of the genre like everyone dying for no reason. Genre fiction is purely for enjoyment.
>>224046288It's "disputed" by people who think the horror aspect is measured solely by the alien's physical screen time, or by people who believe because it's sci-fi that means it can't also be horror/that it's more sci-fi than horror even though sci-fi is more of a setting than a genre really and the plot isn't really focused on anything science-y or worldbuilding like is typical of sci-fi stories, or by people who don't understand the difference between horror and thriller as well as they think they do and realize how they often overlap since thriller and suspense are usually used synonymously these days. Horror stories have at their core always been suspense stories after all from 19th century Gothic horror literature all the way to Caligari and Nosferatu and Dracula and Frankenstein to Hitchcock and Carpenter and Romero and beyond.
>>224048742Its' directing is all it has going for it. The plot and characters are altogether a downgrade from the book but you're illiterate so I wouldn't expect you to know.
>>224041024Literally yes. Horror is genre that is a handful of legitimately good movies and a million that a just excuses to film young women topless.
>>224048889You didn't get the movie. You're not illiterate, but you read Stephen King, which isn't much better.
>>224048912I got it just fine, the movie is the opposite of subtle. The very concept of subtlety and nuance is offensive to it and its blunt depiction of everything.
>>224041024Alien and Das Ding are based on stories published in the same magazine within a year or two of each other. Avatar is based on two stories they published in the late 50s and early 60s.
>>224048959I wish sci-fi and horror anthology magazines were still viable.
>>224048929I doubt you could tell me what it's about.
>>224048986Whatever it purports to be about is a dumbed-down version of the book's themes, like pretty much every adaptation Nicholson starred in.
Funny how all of the horror naysayers in here are shitting over the genre while it’s arguably reached another peak in 2026 with how successful Backrooms and Obsession were. I’m not a fan of either, but one can’t deny how massive the genre is now. Hell, even Martin Scorsese is currently making a horror thriller right now. The genre is insanely lucrative right now.
>>224049006>dumbed-down version of the book's themesSo you didn't get the movie. Thanks for confirming that for me, boss.
>>224048977Same here. I think part of the reason why entertainment as a whole sucks is because the whole creative pyramid kind of collapsed. Genre writers used to work their way up from writing short fiction for pulp mags like that. If they were good, they might get a longer piece published, or land a spot in something more prestigious like Playboy before they ever sold their first novel. Now unless you have connections, you just have to throw your work onto Amazon or try building an audience posting snippets on social media or /x/ or r/nosleep or something and hope it gets noticed amongst the sea of slop.
>>224041934We know.
>>224044796(you) tried, brogo back to letterboxd
Those three are gen x core though, OP.
>>224047689>Horror is 99% garbageThat's all movies, brother. Bad horror is "cozy" is ways a bad comedy or drama isn't. Of course I say that as a horror fan, but if you talk to rom com fans they're usually away most of those movies are cheesy, they just like em. The same is true of people who like Westerns, mysteries, etc. You can have a "cozy" genre but still like movies as a whole.
>>224053090Yeah, horror has this advantage. Even may bad horror movies are fun to watch. In fact I often prefer "bad" horror movies because they tend to be more comfy than "good" horror movies (which are often heavily focused on drama, depression and so on).
>>224041024>1970s>millenial??
>>224041024I like way more horror movies than these and frankly, The Shining is way overglazed.
