>designs DESTINY
>stalls the core
>wants to fire it again hoping that will fix it
>finally comes up with a plan to restart the core with the nukes they already had and saves everyone

i like this movie a lot and come back to it once a year and i think he did the right thing but did not receive full redemption. thousands, maybe millions died as a result of DESTINY. he was fully prepared to turn the ship around and even holds the plan to rearrange the nukes hostage unless he can have a cigarette. then he's fully prepared to leave Josh when the last nuke falls on him. its only because the compartment shifts and he gets trapped that he winds up dying. he doesnt even do the right thing in the final moment because the nuke is gonna go off either way

he couldn't help Josh and when he was the one trapped he pushed Josh out of the compartment thus saving him, and he told him how to buff the last explosion

at that point he was irreversibly fucked. you'd have to be a real dick to not do what he did at that point so idk i give him credit for it

what does "the right thing" mean to you

The movie had great pacing but re-used a lot of tropes
>I'm assembling a crew
>Crew die-off one by one
>Romance plot for no reason
>Antagonist sacrifices himself to save the protagonist

I think the better doomsday movie is The Day After Tomorrow because it has multiple plots going at a time which keeps it entertaining. Plus I think winter movies are extra comfy

Yeah but that's at the very end and just a quick kiss, you get way more of a romance plot in TDAT, which is also kino btw
God I miss when they released good disaster kinos every 1-3 years. The last 3 released I remember, Moonfall, Twisters and Geostorm, are completely forgettable

I didn't see any of those because I assumed Hollywood could never make another good disaster movie after seeing the terrible 2012 movie
