Adult Swim was a low risk gamble to do something with that time-slot. They produced a couple of dirt cheap shows using shit from the hanna barbera archives, and then they licensed a few other animated shows that failed on their original network (family guy, futurama, oblongs, home movies, mission hill) which were cheap to get, and a few anime shows through toonami that they couldn't edit down for pre watershed hours.

The show is infinitely quotable and was consistently solid throughout its entire run. The 2nd move was just an episode stretched out with an actual budget but it still had some fun bits. The first movie is just kino.
