I thought New Blood was refreshing while binging the entire franchise precisely because it framed Dexter as being evil again. Take away the playful Daniel Licht score and you can really reappreciate how menacing Michael C Hall actually is as Dexter.

Its a victim of its time that show. Call me a pleb if you want but I simply don't want to see Dexter lose or get caught or killed. I am smart enough to know he's fictional and in the real world someone like that could be dangerous but he is not real, he's a character, and a very entertaining and charismatic one. If it was up to me Id keep making Dexter seasons for as long as Michael C Hall is fit. Change locations every couple seasons, bring some fun guest stars like dan stevens or kristen ritter or john lithgow were and have dexter awkwardly interacting with people whenever hes not killing

I feel mixed on this episode because I thought the general pacing was good like Dexter missing Harrisons day and the fight with Al but the writing was really bad, it felt aimed towards the people that don't understand wtf is going on so they need the chars to literally tell you what's happening on the screen.

Just watched it. Solid ep. I like the idea of exporing how he handles things as an older man and the physicality of it all. But man, Dexter is at his stupidest when he gets impatient and antsy and rushes into things. It makes for more thrill but at the same time I like when he pulls off an intelligently thought out plan. He should have known Rapunzel would check his trophy's once he got back in the RV.

I really do wonder how you "end" Dexter. Fundamentally being a serial killer isn't sustainable. You get needier and you need more and more thrill and you can't hold it anymore and you get caught or killed. I haven't read the books. But you can see at the end of the episode how he has nothing to keep him grounded anymore except Harrison, and now he's going to be independant, he won't need Dex anymore and that might just send him off the rails, he's getting sloppier and can't catch up to the modern technologies (I mean, even google searching "rapunzel killer dead" or amazon ordering his tools would be enough to get him caught.) and once It Was Obviously Self-Defence shows up, that will be the last of the detectives from the original Miami Metro to trace him to the past.

It's probably gone on too long to attempt a "Felina" type ending at this point, I don't think it would suit the tone, but having it keep going for seasons and seasons would just feel comical. Idk. I feel like there is no good way to end this story. If he dies it doesn't feel compelling, If he's arrested it doesn't feel compelling. If everyone else dies and he keeps being your friendly neighbourhood bayharbour butcher it feels too serialised. I do hope they pull it off though. It would be a cool redemption arc to go from one of the worst finales in TV to one of the best.

Astor and Cody should show up and they'e become killers themselves from the years of trauma. Dexter hunts this killer duo not knowing it's them, finds out and realises his killing leads to a cycle that creates more serial killers and knows at that he just has to kill himself to never contribute to it again. Astor and Cody get the jump on Dexter during his hunt and almost take him out but Harrison shows up in the nick of time and takes them out. Dexter is tired after all the running and hiding, the police are on his tail anyway and there's no getting out of it this time. Before the police arrive behind Harrison, he stabs himself in the chest just like his victims, falls on the floor and has one last flashback of everyone he lost along the way as he runs his hand along his blood slides for the final time.
