He does literally have a meta Halloween I joke in the movie itself so his joke on the audience backfired, but let’s go over the plot.Man from town miles and miles away steals mask and then passes out to be brought to a drunk cheating old ass doctor with a shitty family then gets murdered in the hospital. Said doctor decides to hold his own investigation because of a hot girl who says she’s the dead guys daughter and finds the town that makes the masks. That’s about the first 10 minutes. The rest is an hour and 45 minutes of mystery box shit the writers admit they didn’t even fucking know what they were doing mid fucking movie. It’s an insanely slow burn and leads to The masks melt kids heads! Well not the mask, a little coin they make on the back of the head. There’s also an entire fucking room made so they could put the coin on the mask, and they even do a shitty job putting the little coin on there since it falls off all the time. Oh and it makes bugs and snakes come out because ???? And then there are ROBOTS that look and act like people! Some came from Germany. Refuses to elaborate. And also literally Stonehenge was delivered to their facility for some reason. A flashing pumpkin “activates” Stonehenge too, idk why lol. Oh and the girl he fucks is also A ROBOT at the end. Why is it called season of the witch? Oh and why did he want to kill all the kids anyway? Well too much time was spent with literally nothing happening so no room to explain any of the fucking movie and it ends mid scene. Also why was that retarded kid literally flipping channels to find a commercial? I seriously hope you guys don’t fall for the so bad it’s good bullshit. It’s just bad and deserves the hate.

It was a poorly made movie. I don't even mind changing direction to an anthology but it's clear Carpenter had mostly stepped away at that point. Carpenter did deliver a good score.

The movie isn't perfect, but I love Conal Cochran. One of my favorite horror antagonists. The idea of a witch using modern technology/distribution to industrialize his magic ritual is rad, and O'Herlihy plays him perfectly.
