norm was the best because he could find a way to say the most obvious thing you were not allowed to say. he took taboo comedy to the next level.
remember at the time we were told the joke "OJ Simpson is to be presumed innocent until proven guilty..."

>your sisters in arms
No such fucking thing. The only thing women do in "combat" units is slow men down, increase the load men have to carry, create jealousy and grievances, get men killed, and get them in legal trouble for alleged and actual rapes.

Women are a fucking joke in armed or police forces, and the men that pander to them should be treated as enemies of the state.

How is it fascism? It's a democratic society where you're only allowed to vote if you've served your country.

Reminder that the movie took several liberties with the source material and made the future society of Earth needlessly cruel, for example, in the book you don't need to serve in the military to become a mother or start a family
>>
>>224037343
Combat expert right here. What's your combat experience, having your stupid face pushed into a toilet by your bullies?
Shut the fuck up you stupid nigger. You'd be more useless than a crippled woman.

>>224037464
Don't look up the actual definition of fascism and why the symbol used to be an unironic faggot.

>Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology and movement characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, and societal regimentation.
The only ones that apply to Starship Troopers are militarism (to a point) and societal regimentation (where the only difference between citizen and non-citizen is that non-citizens can't vote or hold jobs like policeman). The reason for this is that after WW3 the Earth took such pains to recover from the post-apocalypse that the unified earth government decided that a citizen needed to understand the value of democracy and the personal sacrifices required to defend it.
therefore, Starship Troopers is not fascistic.
>>
>>224037464
There's no real academic consensus on what fascism means and is broadly taken to be some kind of combination of militarism, nationalism, and authoritarianism.
>>
>>224037533
>What's your combat experience
All infantry. 3 A-stan rotations, 2 Iraq rotations. The fact you're seething so hard demonstrates you don't what the fuck you're talking about, and are just another typical 4chan beta bitch.

its reasonable to demand civic duties from your citizens during times of crisis, the romans did the same thing during the second punic war.

the issue is that these should be temporary measures, when its necessary for survival.
the federation in the movie is by all accounts at peace and colonizing the galaxy. the bugs are a nuissance at best and dont pose an existential threat to the society.
they're literally on the other side of the galaxy, on shithole desert planets with zero value, humans are encroaching into bug space, the wars are fought on bug planets, not the other way around.
even the assumption that they are threatening with asteroid strikes is tenuous at best, we see space defense grids and spaceships that should be able to handle that shit.

even assuming the idea at the core of this military stratocracy was good and necessary at the time, the federation has long since moved past that urge, and now they just keep a bloated military apparatus alive for its own sake, their military government is creating more conflicts than it solves, its constantly at war to justify its own existence.
citizens must jump through pointless and dangerous hoops just to get basic liberties, which is a corruption of its original values.
even if you somehow assume fascism is a great form of government, forcing all your young people into a meatgrinder over some worthless sand planet with a 100% chance of getting maimed or killed can't be the point of it all

You want to know what fascism is? I'll tell you. Fascism is:
having an orange pedo rapist as a president
the mass media controlled by a chud technocrat
valid transexual folk fearing for their lives every time they go to the bathroom when a little girl is in there, too
Black people going to prison after committing crimes they need to do to survive, like mugging asian people and stealing speakers and sneakers
atheists like me getting killed in the streets like animals by rabid Christian and Jewish zealots
>>
How is wanting a safe stable society you take pride in contributing to, fascism?

Dayum..."fascism" sounds pretty based!
>>
>>224037767
Yeah because the movie took several liberties as the writer/director didn't even read the book because " well, I have a feeling that it glorifies fascism!"
In the book, army service is such a loose definition that you could be the most retarded, lame and clumsy oaf and STILL make it through because they will make up a role for your capabilities on the spot. You could spend your two years peeling potatoes and in the end you'd be considered a citizen with full rights .
Actual, legit soldiers were the vast minority and potential recruits were actively discouraged to join not because they wanted the most brainwashed redneck neonazis to be soldiers but the most steadfast.
In short, it's futile to compare the two things because one is written by a guy with some military experience that had some kind of noble civic militarism in mind and the other by the average liberal wanting chuds to have some media literacy and empathize with murderous bug creatures. Of course the movie version of the federation is blatantly fascistic.

Anon left out corporatism (which Mussolini stated was a central tenet), suppression of workers/unions, academics, clerics and socialists, and scapegoating. We don't know about most of those but at least scapegoating is present (the bugs). Also we don't see any evidence of an opposition party IIRC. Did you know the PROC considers itself a democracy because to get into the politburo you have to work your way up from (elected) local government? Yet their constitution makes the CCP the only legal party and its ideology the only legal ideology.
>>
>>224037941
Maybe all these things aren't mentioned because it's a book about sending spacemen to fight space bugs and we don't need three tomes of lore to back everything up.
Non-citizens can be millionaires, movie stars, doctors or what have you, which couldn't be done in our actual fascist dictatorships unless you sucked the Duce's or der Fuhrer's boot.
>>
>>224037986
I haven't read the book but based on what I've heard about it, I agree it doesn't sound fascistic. But the film version very much comes across that way.
>>
>>224037986
Also isn't the book literally Heinlein's attempt to describe his perfect society, rather than simply a story about space rangers? In which case it should go into detail.
