H1
> Great to Strongly Great

2018
> Very Good

H6 (producer's cut)
> Very Good

H3

Kills
> Decent to Good-ish

Nightdance (comic)
> Decent (bleak mean spirited ending keeps it from being higher)

Zombie's H2 (09)
> Ok / Meh

Zombie's H1 (07)

H6 (theatrical)
> Poor

HR
> Bad (but slightly underrated)
>>
>>224035748
>H20
>> Decent

I should probably elevate it to Decent to Good.

Pros!
> Solid showdown between Laurie & Myers. Michael ripping the axe out of his shoulder and slamming it into the ground was boss. Decapitation was great.
> Secluded school is a decent location.
> Young cast is decently likable.
> The bathroom sequence is suspenseful.
> Opening killings are suspenseful.

Cons!
> No character besides Laurie gets any depth.
> Laurie's boyfriend is really likable but is wasted overall.
> 3 different mask are used and ALL largely suck. Main one shows his eyes way too much, hair is too flared out & forehead is too big.
> Marco Beltrami's score is fine but doesn't really vibe with the franchise's traditional music at all.
> Myers has no burn scars despite Laurie watching him burn still being canon.

Controversial elements some like & some dislike.
> The post scream feel.
>>
>>224035770
H20 is very representative of that era of Miramax/Weinstein. It’s maybe 85 minutes long with credits.
>>
For me, it's Brick Shithouse Michael
>>
>>224035748
imo H4 gets overrated due to its admittedly awesome opening title sequence. The rest of the movie is okay but too action heavy.
>>
>>224035748
>>224035875
Disagree, I think upping the action was unavoidable when they were going to be competing with the Elm Street series near the height of it's descent into mindless fun + Carrie vs Jason the same year.
That is something H4 & Texas Chainsaw 3 did well is increase the pace/action while remaining dead serious. And H4 still had plenty of slow moody parts with the segment in Meeker's house and build up to finding the police station massacre.

H4

PROS
> Great moody opening credits surveying farm equipment adorned with Halloween decorations.
> Solid score.
> The film certainty has a different feel from the original 2 films but is still very suspenseful & atmospheric in it's own way (and is still dead serious in tone)
> Like 2 the film does a decent job of fleshing out Haddonfield as a real town with culture & history.
> Donald as always is great.
> Harris as Jamie remains among the best performances from a child actor I have encountered in a horror film.
> Rachel is a solid final girl.
> Sheriff Meeker (beau starr) I have always thought to be cool, his professional & trusting interaction with Loomis is more enjoyable then the more strained back & forth between Brackett & Loomis in 1/2. We get a faint hint of laziness/denial on his part with him initially trying to blow Loomis off but once he takes things seriously he goes into war mode like a boss.
> I liked that they wrote both Loomis & Myers as having learned from the events of 78, what with Loomis not hesitating to demand a town wide curfew which he resisted doing in 78 and Myers taking out both the Police & Power stations early on & letting officer Logan take him directly to his targets.
> Build up to & reveal of the police station massacre is chilling as well as the triple Michael sequence.
> This is easily the most powerful we have ever seen Myers on film.
> Entire ending from the battle atop the truck to the shootdown, to the twist is epic as hell.

CONS
> Worst mask of the series.
>>
>>224035921
I’ve never liked that most of Michael’s victims in Halloween 4 are beefy middle aged dudes.

Halloween 1 is so goddamn overrated. Not in a "muh jumpscares" "muh gore" kind of way but it's just agonizingly slow. The kills are so lame. The cinematography and lighting are ok for the most part. Many of the performances are just terrible and a few are good. The villain is just.. some guy who was a kid that killed a topless lady. This whole movie is like when you see a fish that looks like it evolved millions of years ago and is a half-formed blob because it has no environmental pressure. I appreciate the distance in time and that it is a progenitor of the genre but people act like it's a masterpiece. In many ways it's barely a functional movie at all.

By comparison something like H20 is basically elite cinema which is an absurd thing to say but still true.
>>
>>224036084
Halloween walked so The Thing could run.
>>
Rewatched the original last night and my god nothing fucking happens until the last 5 mins. How this shit got endless sequels is beyond me.
>>
While it is unquestionably the worst of the series Halloween Resurrection does has some positive aspects.

> Katee Sackhoff is fun in the film.
> Sara Moyer is a good final girl.
> Myers mask isn't perfect (still shows eyes too much) but much better then any from H20.
> Fuckawful Busta is almost worth it for his face when Myers effortlessly turns the tables against him, pic related.
> Some cool, creepy shots (myers looking down after getting hanged)
> Opening with Laurie is a lackluster end for the character but it's still a decent sequence.
> Score is better than H20.

Dude you're not even trolling you genuinely believe that making your audience fall asleep is some artistic achievement. It's barely more compelling than paint drying. How is this some great mind-wrinkling high watermark of cinema? There are earlier horror films that are significantly more entertaining by comparison. The Exorcist and Psycho remain watchable to this day. Please enlighten us as to what exactly it is that we're all missing.
>>
the only thing I don't like about the original is Michael pretending to be the boyfriend to kill the blonde girl. It looks silly and him strangling her when he stabbed everyone else is an odd choice. The rest of the movie is great.
>>
>>224036836
lol if you thought that was silly, wait until you see what he does in Halloween 5

NTA, but when was the last time you rewatched it? I just watched for this Halloween season and imo it doesn’t hold up well. Biel is smoking hot, but that early 00s style of horror remake has aged very poorly.

biggest piece of shit of the entire franchise. I know most people think Resurrection is the worst but at least that movie has its fun moments. Zombie H2 is pure misery in addition to being an awful movie

Depends on what I’m in the mood for. Some years, it’s 1/2/H20, but others it’s 1/DGG trilogy. I can see some people’s issues with that trilogy, but it’s not enough to ruin the experience for me. I actually kind of like the new cast, and find Cory to be a sympathetic character.

That said, I do wish that they would have stuck with the original idea, and made the whole trilogy take place over the course of one crazy night. Is there a script or at least a plot summary of what the original version of Ends was going to be before the drastic shift to what it ended up being?
>>
>>224037033
>"Michael is a killer because his family was poor and dysfunctional, he never had a chance to be normal :("

That to me always felt like Zombie revenge fantasy self-insert, particularly the part where he beats the bully to death in the woods.
>>
Ends is possibly the worst one. I have no idea why they introduced Corey so late into a trilogy
>>
>>224037028
>I literally got cancer from reading this.

Oh, if only…
>>
>>224037070
In a world where 5, 6, Resurrection, and H2 exist, it’s not even close to being the worst.
>>
I like 78 and H20 and ____Kills. 3 is pretty good but comparing it to the rest makes no sense. The Zombie movies suck but I kinda like his Loomis. All the other sequels are bad, some are fun, the one that ends with the little girl killing the mom is probably the best of the bunch and Resurrection is definitely the worst one. The new trilogy I didn't really like as a trilogy even if the individual movies are decent.
>>
This is how I'd fix the Gordon Green trilogy, what do you think
>Movie 1
Laurie lives a normal suburban life, though strained with Karen over typical family friction. Allyson is dating Cameron who is more of an over jerk, while Corey Cunningham is introduced as a steady, decent friend. Sartain orchestrates Michael’s escape to study him, but Michael massacres the town, killing Cameron. Corey helps Allyson survive. Unprepared in a regular house, Laurie fails to stop Michael from murdering Karen. He vanishes, leaving Laurie convinced her normalcy killed her daughter.
>Movie 2
One year later, Haddonfield is reeling on the anniversary. Tommy Doyle's mob forms out of fresh, raw panic, not of a couple kills 40 years ago. Consumed by guilt, Laurie builds a remote, armed compound and forces Allyson into intense survival training. Corey becomes Allyson’s escape from Laurie’s smothering control. When the town forms a posse, Corey talks Allyson out of joining, earning Laurie’s deep gratitude. Michael reemerges, butchers the mob, and retreats into the drainage tunnels, confirming Laurie’s worst fears.
>Movie 3
Years later, Corey accidentally kills the kid he's babysitting. The town brands him a monster. He finds comfort in Allyson, and romance finally sparks. Laurie initially tells him to stand up for himself. Instead, Corey discovers a feral Michael in the storm drains and chooses to become feared rather than bullied.
Laurie spots the cold detachment in Corey and realizes he has curdled into another Shape. When she tries to pull Allyson away, Corey snaps, seeing Laurie as a hypocrite trying to steal his only lifeline. Driven to eliminate her so he and Allyson can escape, Corey attacks the compound, with Michael trailing the carnage.
Laurie burns her fortress down to destroy them both. Combing the ash, the cops report they are one body short: only one burned, masked killer was recovered instead of two. Laurie and Allyson are left knowing one of them walked away clean.

In the original Halloween Michael kills like a hitman would. He observes, hides in the shadows and kills his victims when they least expect it and he nearly always comes up directly from behind them especially the girls. There was no way for him to get at Lynda like that while she was still in bed so he put on a white sheet and pretended to be her boyfriend so he could get close to her. There's also a sexual angle to why he strangles Laurie's two slutty friends, Laurie even mistakes Lynda gasping for air as moaning over the phone initially, but Laurie the pure virgin is the one who survives the movie.

My ideal changes to the series!

H2
> Give Jill more to do, ideally nudity. She was adorable and likable.

H4
> Completely different better mask.
> Have Kelly Meeker get fully topless (Kinmont did so in plenty of other films)

H5
> Keep Rachel alive for tangibly longer & give her Tina's sacrificial moment.
> Show Rachel nude during her shower scene (we could faintly see bush through the curtain)
> If we are stuck with Tina then at least give her a nude scene getting into her Halloween dress.
> Keep the cut swat/national guard massacre in the film.
> Keep the cut police station massacre ending/Sheriff Meeker's Death in the film.
> Toss the cringy cop duo or at least the music that came with them.
> Make some adjustments to Myer's mask, make the neck & eyes be less huge.

H6
> Keep the Producer's cut's tone, style, score & ending.
> Pay Harris whatever she wanted to play Jamie again.
> Maybe have Jamie survive to the finale, sacrificing herself to save Danny. Kara reassures her she will keep the baby safe in her final moments.
> Give more screentime to show Loomis & Wynn's friendship.
> Explain why Wynn needed a successor, just a passing remark about having cancer would suffice.
> Tone down the mask neck size.
> Have Hagan get naked.
> Generally keep the Producer's cut version of the cult without much of the theatrical mad science elements but do specify that Jamie was artificially impregnated with a quasi clone of Myers not his child?

H20
> More time with Adam Arkin's character, he was really likable but underused.
> Do a better job with the score.
> Let us get to know the teen cast a bit more.
> Stick with the main mask but black out the eyes, tone down the giant forehead & make the hair less flared out.
>>

Halloween Resurrection
> Remove Laurie being killed at the beginning. Have Myers infiltrate the asylum to kill her but it is revealed that she escaped a while ago.
> Have her come in to rescue the contestants during the final act and she teams up with Sara Moyer's character instead of Busta who is killed much earlier without the kung-fu sequences. Do keep the moment of Myers being hanged.
> Katee Sackhoff nudity.
> Get better more likable actors for some of the other roles.
> Black out Myer's mask eyes again.
> Explain what happened to Laurie's son.

Halloween (2018)
> Have Judy Greer or Rhian Rees do nude scenes in the film.
> Have Myers leave Ray's body on the front lawn so Allyson finds him & we see her emotional devastation.

Halloween Kills
> Do not have the mob massacre turn into a slow-mo fest once Myers turns the tables on them & do not have Laurie's monologue play over it.
> Tone down the hamfistedness of the mob mentality message.
> Have the scapegoated mental patient actually slightly resemble Myers in stature & have him wearing a Halloween costume when he shows up at the Hospital looking for help making it more understandable why the mob would mistake him for Myers.

Halloween Ends
> Have Myers preemptively massacre the police station as in H4 but actually on screen.
> Give the cool black Sheriff a futile badass last stand with a Spas-12 to tribute Meeker.
> Nudity from the redhead.
> Have Corey return Michael's mask & he goes back to using his own after the massacre of his bullies.
> Have Allyson discover how far Corey has has gone on her own and the finale is 2 battles: her vs Corey simultaneously while Laurie fights Michael.
>>
Ends could have been ultra kino if they just changed the last 20 minutes. Corey should have been the new Michael. Cut out all the Michael/Laurie bullshit. Movie finally did something new and interesting and all the retarded critics got filtered.

How anybody can say Halloween 6 is good is beyond me. Both cuts are terrible, with the producers cut being particularly boring. At least resurrection is entertaining despite being rather goofy, and Zombies H2 is insanely violent, with some decent aspects to it.
>>
>>224039801
Having a 20 minute opening scene that turns out to be a dream is whack af and it ruins H2
>>
>>224035875
H4 honestly has the worst portrayal of Michael Myers to me. The obvious shoulder pads, worst mask and he mostly just stands there. Nothing memorable.
>>
>>224037729
I dunno man Danielle Harris was pretty hot in Halloween 07. The chick who played Lynda, too.
>>
>>224039996
That and having Laurie be a miserable bitch throughout the entire film is atrocious. The entire film is dreadfully bleak with nothing worth holding on to besides watching bad things continue to happen. Once Annie is gone it's past the point of no return.
>>
Let's settle this once and for all.
>Rob Zombies Halloween and H2 Theatrical & Unrated Versions
For me it's Halloween Theatrical because I fucking hate the rape scene and H2 Unrated because that movie is so batshit you may as well just watch the most batshit version. Also Annie's death with Douriff in the Unrated is absolutely heartbreaking. I only own both unrated Versions on Blu-ray and stuck watching the rape scene every time and I fucking hate it. Fucking Weinstein's.
>>
>>224040050
Danielle is the only reason to watch either movie for the most part. Honorable mention is just rooting for Michael to do as much damage as possible, which is what it seems Rob wanted from the start.

>>224039996

Completely agree. H20 has a very solid cast overall, they should've done more with them
>>
>>224041576
And while H6 is undeniably the worst of the first six it still has the second best mask in the entire series after the first one. Which is whacky.

H20 fucking sucked. Michael has no presence because he's literally not present for 90% of the film since he has to take a fucking 2000 mile roadtrip. And there are literally like 20 fake-out jumpscares in the film, it's to the point of parody. The ending is cool but it's automatically undercut by the most absurd retcon in movie history (and before you say it's unfair to blame Resurrection's retcon on H20, it was the plan from the very beginning, which is why 'Michael' tries to take his mask off). It's a 5/10, so it's not that bad, but it's still much worse than 1978, 2018, 2, 4, or even the first Rob Zombie
>>
>>224041764
>>224041836
>Its boring. Might be the most boring one actually.
I mean even objective garbage like the sixth one at least has a fascinating production hell history behind it. H20 is just so.... safe. And boring.
>>
>>224041844
It was Dimension and the Weinsteins plan to retcon it all along. JLC really did think she killed Michael off at first and intended herself for it to be the definitive cap. But they fucked her over and then she agreed to do Resurrection only if they killed Laurie off instead in the opening.
Spoilers? Really? Who gives a shit? Both H20 and Resurrection suck ass anyway.

What's your headcanons about Michael's nature(1 and 2 only)? Neither him being just an evil human or possessed by an external spirit really do it for me. I'd like to think it's more of a Pyramid Head thing where his own psychology as a little boy created a supernatural entity.
>>
>>224045670
I like to think he's just wired wrong - lizard/insect brain operating, mind of a child, strength of a man on PCP, pain receptors not functioning etc
