This movie is not anti-Christian. The guy who made is was a literal convert to Catholicism and is still a devout Catholic. It's a satire of institutional corruption and the perversion of the Christianity by grifters. Its spirituality is exotic, but not irreverent. Btw this is the best Halloween re-release in recent years imo.

One of the reasons is that The Devils (based on real historical events) is sympathetic to Protestants but makes the RCC look corrupt and ridiculous, while The Exorcist (based on a fictional novel that was based on a kid pretending to be possessed) is the most pro-Roman Catholic movie ever made and makes Protestants look inept and foolish. When Protestants engaged in hoax witch trials during the 17th Century to persecute their neighbors and gain political power, everyone today recognizes them for what they were.
