They're trying to many things. You can watch video podcasts for fuck sake.
Stick to what works: House of Cards, Orange is the New Black... long form TV series that you dump on Day One so people can binge watch.
>>

shouldn’t have cancelled the dark crystal.

why does netflix have all these stupid games and podcasts on the screen when i open it?

I miss the glory days of KickassTorrents ;_;
>>
>>224027149
Netflix got big because it was easy to just pay 1 sub and have access to so much.

Now there's so many streaming sites it's less and less valuable to have.

Also they cancel most of their original content after 1 season or it takes 2-3 years between seasons
>>

>>
>>224027149
As with most things it's many problems contributing to the whole. Yes lack of good original content, their 3rd party library being picked clean by every single studio deciding to run their own service, the added competition from those new streaming services, increasing prices, increasing ads, worsening economy causing people to cut their streaming services first.
>>
>>224027499
but totally for real this time though, everyone is going to unsubscribe because..uhh..
>>
It's almost as if people finally woke up and realized that 99.9999999% of the 100,000s of original content has made this far is absolute garbage.
netflix "studio" has the worst track record of any Hollywood studio by far.
AI slop is more innovative than anything netflix makes.

They want to compete with tiktok but failed to realize that people don't actually like that shit they're just addicted to using it. Nobody wants to pay for a slop subscription.
>>
>>224027149

for me its

poor 1080p stream quality that costs too much

they said you could share your accounts now they say you cant

they are not making kino, they make slop mostly.
>>

>>
>>224027662
there are so many services you can pretty much bounce from one free trial to another and watch everything they have to offer before hopping to the next service.
Back in the day when cable was a thing AND HBO had its original streaming service, you could just call your cable company every few months and threaten to cancel your subscription and they'd always throw in a free month of the premium channels, which unlocked the streaming service.

>>224027149
Because their content library today is undeniably worse than their library was a decade ago. When subscriptions were half what they are now and the ability to find a movie or tv show you actually wanted to watch when you were reminded of it, it was a much easier sub to justify keeping around. These days as >>224027712 mentions their 3rd party offerings have been hollowed out by other studios trying their hand at running their own streaming service and now that netflix isn't the only game in town it's become abundantly clear just how weak their 1st party catalog truly is. To this day what do they have? A handful of actually good documentaries, House of Cards (the first few seasons anyway), and some CW tier productions for middle aged women who are probably getting way more out of their disney+ and apple TV subs? When push comes to shove and they've seen the flavor of the month 5/10 production that gets pushed into the high 7/10 range by social media buzz (I'm looking at you Squid Game) why would you keep your netflix sub active? They can't compete to hold down the one demo they actually have a chance with.
>>
>>224027149
>Why is Netflix losing viewers?
it isn't, stock price isn't subscriber numbers
>>
>>224028029

>>
Netflix didn't used to have much competition. Now everyone has a service and instead of competition improving things it just means the same amount of content is spread out on multiple services.

Everything being woke interracial black gay and girlboss is also clearly pushed hard as an agenda by studios now so new content is worse than old content.
Even if I was any of those categories I wouldn't enjoy fake elevated levels of it where every cast includes it. It is obvious those behind the financing are mandating self destructive brainwashing.

>>
>>224028009
Not just the library.
I really miss their old algorithm from the DVD in the mail days, if you went through and genuinely rated things to your interest meant that if netflix recommended something with five stars you'd watch it sight unseen because if it gave you something with that confidence odds are it was going to be something you really liked.
But then they eventually got rid of it and it ended up just pushing whatever trash they were promoting.
Also it is a dogshit way to browse the available options that is just endless scrolling.

Streaming is a shit model. Got a never ending void for content yet almost all is it is ass and few good shows you have people just binge them in a week then it takes two years for next season
>>
>>224028226
amazon also has free-with-ads movies and 'live' tv that just loops series.

>>224028282
its a shame it killed the film and tv industry
>>
>>224028282
>Streaming is a shit model.
Nah, its a great model, especially for the consumer.
The problem is when they fuck with it. A lot of the "original" content on streaming services isn't made to be good television/miniseries/movies, its just slop for the trough. You need to make sure it always looks like you have "NEW! EXCITING STUFF!" getting churned out and hoping someone signs up for a free membership and forgets to cancel before the next billing cycle.
Broadcast television had problems, but they needed to keep butts in seats between ad breaks, and the budget gets spread mostly even across each season with some being held back for the big premiers/finales/holiday specials. You'd have a bottle episode or two to save money, but you needed to keep people coming back week after week.
With streaming they just need you to watch the first four or five episodes before they know empirically that you're just going to zone out as the rest of the season plays in the background. If that is all you're doing then its mystery box bullshit that is all set up and no payoff.
>>
>>224028375

>>
>>224027149
too few good shows and movies. most everything is copy pasted and tinged with woke. only good show worth rewatching is ancient apocalypse and it seems like they canceled it in favor of slop. when i really tapped out is when they started coming out with these documentaries about michael jackson and the break dance lady with the same political agenda behind the premise.

>>
>>224028394
Broadcast TV doesn’t need to fill an endless void to keep people renewing their subscription. During dead periods can just play reruns of Friends or Sienfeld which are most popular shit on steaming as well.
>>
>>224027149
Nobody wants to pay $20 for Netflix budget slop when it was $7 16 years ago and had a library that rivaled every pirate site.
>>
>>224027149
Now that every channel has it´s own streaming service and every streaming service has introduced adds it´s worse than old cable TV. Convenience was the whole point of streaming. No adds, not going through the rental process, no need to insert dvd or blu ray, no extra costs, you typed, pressed play and bum! Now you could have 5 different services, all have adds and none have the stuff you actually want to watch. Furthermore since the competition is brutal every single service cut down on trying to make interesting original content, they just milk big ass low risk IPs.

Amazon is not better, used to have a lot of included content and now half the content is either a rental or an additional subscription. They all really kind of forgot that the business only exists because it´s slightly more convenient than piracy.
>>
>>224028572
streaming without advertising is not sustainable
>>
>>224027662
The only thing that sucks is feeling like you're rushing to watch stuff, it's the same with game pass on xbox
>>
>>224027149
For me I cancelled Netflix like a decade ago after having it since the early days when they were a DVD by mail service. The biggest reason was their catalog continued shrinking and shrinking until I could barely find anything made before the 90s. I had no interest in their original programs and I already had Amazon video free with my Prime subscription which had a superior catalog of older movies. There was no reason for me to keep Netflix.

Compare it to how HBO or Amazon or even Paramount treat their biggest shows

Every year there is a new Pitt, or new Reacher, or new Sheridan.
>>
>>224027149
they keep raising the prices and making it harder to share accounts and at the same time there are now more streaming companies so netflix has fewer shows and the ones they do have are ass.
It also doesn't help that everything is expensive and some of the things they actually went and got like WWE suck right now
>>
Netflix is a perfect example for why human beings make no sense. I can't even count how many times Netflix has raised prices in the last 5 years. Every price increase people said they were going to quit and every time Netflix sub count and revenue per sub went up. Now people aren't quitting. They just aren't watching as much. So it shows you people bitch and bitch, but do nothing about it. Netflix stock I'm sure will go back up. One more stupid hit is all they nee to get the buzz back. Probably another Korean show.

They lost the monopoly they had on streaming around COVID when Disney+ launched fresh out the gate with Mando as a killer app and flooded their platform with dogshit around ~2018ish.
Contrary to popular belief, there was funny enough a time when "Netflix Original" meant megakino like F is for Family, the first few Voltron seasons, Stranger Things S1, Ozark, House of Cards, The Get Down, Daredevil, Little Witch, etc. From 2013-17 I'd argue there was a moment where Netflix pumped out a really impressive amount of good to great television and arguably dominated the last truly great era of TV, given it seemingly couldn't miss be it adult oriented, teen oriented, kid-oriented or foreign or domestic. Capeshit, sitcoms, prestige dramas, cartoons (both kid-oriented and adult), anime, it seemed like the service was unstoppable and all-consuming to where culturally it was one of the few touchstones that distinguished the 2010s.
It wasn't really until ~2018ish where the wheels started to fall off. Hulu revitalized itself as the place where all the Fox stuff went, so that stuff was all pulled and sent there. Then they started making really abysmal live-action anime adaptations, i.e Death Note. Not to mention the worst tendencies of California and Silicon Valley started becoming apparent as that area massively invested in the company as it grew uncontrollably. Suddenly all the shows started getting really gay and tumblry (including many I listed), a massive wave of shitty adult animation and standup specials from millennial and gen-X shitlibs proliferated, thus altering the character of the platform a lot and tainting the "Netflix Original" brand that was once both ironclad and diverse.
It didn't become a terminal problem until COVID though. Tiger King, Bird Box, and Squid Game all being insane sleeper hits that were arguably the last major TV events all covered up the fact that the studios came onto the fact that Netflix had grown greedy and became a de facto monopoly pt. 1

on streaming, so they all siloed away their content on their own streaming platforms to create an awful combination of the vertically-integrated pre-1948 studio system with cable to recoup their losses from cable's death and Netflix's rise.
As a result, this made Netflix way more desperate to plug the gaps as the studios basically took all their shit and stripped the house. They started buying up everything they could get their hands on and also setting up shop for production, especially in foreign regions like mainland Europe, Korea, and India where people could produce content without oversight from governments or local streaming services and release it to a massive international marketplace. While this resulted in a lot of kino making its way to Netflix, it also flooded the platform with random shit and balkanized its appeal, while also infecting a lot of those areas with the worst American tendencies (European Netflix productions are often the worst example of this).
Not to mention Netflix also suffered a lot of PR damage from this approach of greenlighting and platforming literally everything, i.e 13 Reasons Why continuing past S1 and drifting off into tumblr insanity or the Cuties fiasco in 2020. Along with a massive deluge of seemingly endless mountain of procedurally generated crap increasingly aimed at women and boomers that's trying to compete with everyone while abjectly failing to make any efforts to constructively build IPs, this all resulted in the terminal decline of Netflix as other competitors sqaured up and soon asserted themselves, and Netflix missed its windows to compete with the studios and media companies as both a producer and distributor in the late 2010s as they failed to capitalize on theaters dying and the public being fatigued by Hollywood, only to then triple down on all the things they hated and not offer a viable alternative like it seemed they were on track to do in the mid-10s.
Now they're driftless and declining.

I know for a fact that at least every anon in this thread really likes (or liked at the time) at least one of the shows I mentioned from their heyday.
