>lands aggressively on Earth
>blasts a massive mining laser that was stopped mere inches away from earth's core

No wonder it never got a sequel. Earth would've been thoroughly fucked.
>>
>>224021412
how do you build such ship
>>
>>224021461
Robotic labor and junk no one is using in a solar system.
>>
>>224021461
carefully
>>
>>224021461
Building the ship itself isn't that difficult. Building the location to build the ship is difficult. Realistically, projects of that scale would have to be built in orbit.
>>
>>224021461
by using technology more advanced than anything humans have
>>
>>224021412
If this happened I feel like they just failed to save the earth even if they kill the aliens, the damage is done, this would be like dinosaur extinction x10,000 going off that pic I’m looking at with the huge clamp on the planet
>>
>>224021412
this from independence day 2? man what a stupid idea
>imagine that instead of ships the size of a city
>we make ships the size of several continents!
what's next, ships the size of a star? it only gets more and more ludicrous
>>
>>224021412
You know what would be fucking SICK is a movie where giant alien ship arrives and most of the film is dealing with the real consequences of something like that. Apocalyptic storms, tidal surge, earth filled with doom and dread at the arrival of a dark, forbidding god. Not a surf dracula alien movie, I'd want to combine realism with adventure somehow, but like a District 9 movie premised on a mystery.
>>
>>224021412
The gravitational disruption alone would have fucked everything up beyond repair.
>>
>>224021412
I'm pretty sure a ship of that size would fuck up the earth just with its gravitational pull.
>>
>>224021701
>>224021744
it does, asia and europe get fucked worse than the muslims could ever imagine
>>
>>224021701
Yeah. It was kino the way landmarks from different continents were getting carried across the globe and landed in the Thames.
>>
>>224021461
The bigger issue is that a ship of that size would destabilize the Earth and moon just by being near it. Massive tidal waves, earthquakes, storms, floods, etc.
>>
Couldn't they just have mined asteroids or rock planets?
If they could build this ship they could probably also build a dyson sphere. Earth has nothing of value expect it's position relative to it's sun
>>
>>224021868
They also needed planet cores.
>>
>>224021897
Aren't they mostly iron? The most common metal in the universe?
>>
>>224021897
What for? It's just hot iron.
>>
>>224021925
>>224021926
I dunno. Ask Emmerich or the aliens. They were strip mining and I guess Earth had a lot of good stuff in one place.
>>
>>224021955
That's why he is a hack. It does not
>>
>>224021412
what the FUCK was their PROBLEM
>>
>>224021834
they have ship technology
>>
>>224021573
Yeah I got the same impression.

I also got the same feeling from the end of Kingsmen, where our 'hero' successfully stops the
>drive everyone insane and murderous so they start killing everyone in the vicinity
signal like 5 minutes after it's been activated.
Things would already be irrecoverably fucked.
>>
>>224023027
yeah after 5 minutes anyone who'd been affected would have had like a 1 in 3 casualty rate minimum
>>
>guys, remember that planet where we got BTFW 20 years ago? How about we invade it again for its core instead of an uninhabited planet?
>>
>>224021588
Next movie will have a super massive ship bigger than the mining one that will grab hold of Earth in a vice like grip and begin to take it to their own planet for harvesting.
Earth is saved in the nick of time just before passing out of our own solar system, and through the gravity of the sun, regains it's original orbit around the sun after a couple of months.

>Aliens want our resources
>They travel all the way to the ONE planet that can actually fight back when the galaxy has billions of stars with planets without any life on them, right for the taking
Seriously, even if they just want water, you've got Europa and Ganymede RIGHT THERE, and both have more water than Earth does.

Imagine being the alien who has to paint the entire mothership by hand.
>>
>>224021412
why does the earth wear a hat?
>>
ID4's sequel shares a lot of similarities with Half Life's 7 hour war. Also wasn't completely terrible. I can't say I liked it very much but I didn't hate it either, seen a lot worse.
>>
>>224023744
Moonfall was infinitely better
>>
>>224023763
It was not. Resurgence at least had stuff goin on, Moonfall was like 80% advertisement for China. It sabotaged itself because it had no reason to care for its own existence. There was just no real film to the latter. Even if ID4-2 was flawed in a lot of ways it was still its own thing.
You can't go toe for toe with me on shlock, Geostorm is one of my favourite films.
>>
>>224023843
The elon musk fanboying was weird, too.
>>
I really hope we somehow get a sequel. The promise of taking the fight to the aliens for a change was fucking kino and I'm tired of being told I should hate it.
>>
>>224023619
It would be way more interesting if they gather organic material for some weird reasons.
>>
>>224023900
It was the style at the time
>>
>>224023905
It's a guilty pleasure of mine. Loved the scale of everything.
>>
>>224023913
But they can get carbon and water from asteroids and make biomatter from that
>>
>>224021744
>gravity is real
i shiggy diggy
>>
>>224021412
Wat filmis this?
>>
Aliens are not coming, idiots. Space travel isn't possible
>>
>>224025003
it is possible, but we're nowhere near a point where its necessary, it probably never will be necessary.

and the universe is still pretty young all things considered, so its unlikely somebody else is already at that pressure point where they have to spread to the stars, this is one of the reasons why space looks empty of life
>>
>>224023325
Remember when everybody was saying the real human military would wreck the Navi after Avatar came out?
>>
>>224021744
it's made of duck feathers
>>
>>224025090
Look, call me old fashioned but if the giant that holds the world up dies; we’re fucked
>>
>>224021412
Thank God disaster and alien disaster movies are not mainstream anymore. This is such a bullshit concept lmao
>>
I feel like a ship of that size couldn't exist due to physics. At least not looking as rigid as that. There are limitations. The larger something is the more stress plays a part.
>>
>>224025543
it would probably be a simple shape like a cylinder or a sphere, for structural integrity and material cost purposes.

but its a movie so an alien spaceship has to look cool and threatening, not realistic
>>
>>224021834
This happens in the movie
>>
>>224023843
What's your take on Greenland? I remember not liking the movie that much except for the beginning with the news broadcasts.

I still love 2012

>he hasn't personally performed experiments to calculate and confirm the gravitational constant
>>
>>224027026
Big fan. It really nails every single pathos that a meteor movie should have. Made by the same guy who did Shot Caller and Felon, which I don't think a lot of Anons know.
The sequel was disappointing though, aside from a few moments it did well.
>>
>>224021588
Wow, that sounds badass, idk why nobody wants epic scales anymore
>>
Before this thing even got close to planet Earth, the planets gravity and orbit would have been fucked. Imagine having a second moon getting gradually closer to you. The moon itself would start spiralling, spinning faster around the planet. The collision would be immediate death. The atmosphere would be lit on fire, with the entire surface and sky vaporizing. Anyone underground would also be dead, from the touchdown causing the faults in the crust to rip open and spill forth content destroying earthquakes.
>>
>>224023913
K so there's still got to be countless planets between them and us with life but no species any further advanced than the stone age. Why come back to fight nuclear age creatures that were smart and resourceful enough to beat you once already?
>>
>>224024771
globe-ism. not even once.
