You get withers early as fuck which is a dirt cheap way to re-spec your character. Having some basic knowledge of how DnD character classes and skills work helps, but there are tool tips for all of it. Each class has a main skill that really matters, a secondary skill, and then the rest is pretty much flavor/dump stats. If you're a barbarian you don't need anything but strength and then constitution. If you're a warlock then charisma is king, a wizard needs every point of intelligence because they're nerds. Being able to do shit like stack explosive barrels is just icing on the cake if you want to find a creative way to resolve encounters. I remember being annoyed by that one mission where you have to guard some light portal from waves of enemies, and finally I just said fuck it, chucked out some explosive barrels, and exploded them strategically to thin out the waves. Personally what I enjoyed most using dudes to hit other dudes with and a tavern brawler improvised weapons and throwing barbarian is an incredibly satisfying way to play through the game. Surface layer is pretty basic, and if you want to goof around and do stupid shit the game won't stop you from abusing it.
