Is this the best kid show of all time

(This is excluding cartoons, so stuff like Spongebob and EEnE is excluded)
>>
Brandon, you're 39 years old. Why are you still thinking of kids' shows?
>>
>>224009092
I'm 40 and I have rewatched this show about once a month for the last 20 years. It's a comfort show to me.
>>
I don't get why they never finished releasing it on DVD.
>>
>>224009092
Art transcends age.
>>224009419
Music rights?
>>
M-Michelle...
>>
Hey Sandy by Polaris is a 10/10 song. I listened to their other songs, hoping they'd also be good. They're not. Their other music is actually pretty awful.
>>
>>224010831
Many such cases. Local h and Harvey danger are other 90s 1 hit wonders.

Waiting for October is fucking kino pleb
>>
>>224009046
Probably in terms of capturing that childhood magic. Something thats gone now with tablets being given to toddlers. Let alone insane shit like EPI
>>224010897
>Harvey danger
Okay ill listen to flagpole again
>>
>>224009092
Legitimately good kid's shows are entertaining no matter your age. I'll watch Dexter's Lab every now and then and it's still a fucking hilarious show.
>>
>>224009046
Absolutely yes. Pete & Pete is a one of a kind Gen X masterpiece.

I got reminded of this show watching old Christmas specials last year, downloaded it and watched most of it. Really good show, can't believe it slipped my mind for over 20 years.

>single camera setup, shot on film
>shot on location in the suburbs of New Jersey
>actors who looked like real kids and not California models
>incredible 90s indie/alt-rock soundtrack

Yep, it’s certified kino.

It’s boring and only libtroons like it

>>
>>224009046
I sometimes think about giving it another try. But I used to hate all of this era of live action shows for kids cause it took away airtime from cartoons.
>>
>>224010755
>>224009419
The music rights for a single song used in a single episode would have cost more than the original budget of the whole series, adjusted for inflation.
>>
>>224009046
What do you even call this wistful coming of age genre that clearly doesn't exist anymore?
>>
>>224009046
Surprised at the amount of affirmative comments. No it's not the best kid show of all time. The writing was way too weak and inconsistent, sometimes spoken lines would immediately contradict what just happened on screen. The show is cute but there are just a ton of better 80s and 90s sitcoms. Anyone saying yes is just being nostalgic for the 90s.
>>
>>224015078
>there are just a ton of better 80s and 90s sitcoms.
Name a ton.
>>
>>224011808
You’re spiritually brown
>>
>>224015119
I'll try to keep it to things that were for kids or teens
>Wishbone
>Kenan and Kel
>Full House
>Blossom
>Boy Meets World
>Clarissa Explains it all
>Sister Sister
>Saved by the Bell
>Moesha
There were so many good TV shows during the 90s that's only the tip of the iceberg.
Also you all would have cried about Pete and Pete being woke if it was made today.

Ghost writer is terrible, like really bad, it should not have been a tv show. But it did have a few good moments.

you're not missing much
>>
>>224011907
All that aired less than a year later and had black kids, sorry you had to endure that snowflake.
>>
>>224015314
You think Keenan and Kel is a better kids show than the adventures of Pete and Pete. The only one I’d say is better than Pete & Pete is Boy Meets World. Full House and Saved by the Bell are generic pleb slop. Sister Sister is a shittier version of Smart Guy.
>widely celebrated and famous
That’s how you measure if something is good? So it’s not your taste, but based on the masses? Then I guess Moesha and Blossom are considerably worse than Pete & Pete given their imdb ratings.
>>
>>224015475
Kenan & Kel was just a comedy show, that's all they did and they did it great. Pete & Pete is a coming of age show with comedy. Different things.
>>
>>224015541
Ok. The OP was regarding “the best kids show of all time.” Then anon who disagreed said
>The show is cute but there are just a ton of better 80s and 90s sitcoms.
When asked to name a ton, upnigger anon listed Kenan and Kel as one of them, failing to follow xis own parameters.
>>
>>224015475
Sorry anon
Like I said Pete and Pete had issues with consistency, sometimes story beats would be abandoned mid show, and the comedy didn't always land. A lot of episodes had really weak conclusions. Ellen and Big Pete's relationship could have been so much better. And the show would have been better if they had taken out anything to do with Artie, their imaginary superhero, and replaced it with Pete and Pete trying to navigate bullies or dating.
>>
>>224015587
this anon is just butthurt because someone liked a show with black actors a bit more than a show with white actors
>>
>>224015587
I see, but I think its silly to compare shows with completely different goals.
>>
>>224015624
artie was important and good, he was taken out and that was more important
>>
>>224010831
Fuck you, Polaris rules. Summerbaby is a jam and a half.
>>
>>224015229
None of what you listed are better than Pete and Pete. In fact, most of them are complete shit.
>Wishbone
Maybe if you were 7. This show is not better than Pete & Pete.
>Kenan and Kel
Sucks. Also, niggers.
>Full House
Are you kidding me? This cheesy horseshit? Kill yourself.
>Blossom
When did you tell your dad you're a fag? Next.
>Boy Meets World
Sucks. Lame kike horseshit.
>Clarissa Explains it all
OK. I'd call this a sister show to Pete & Pete.
>Sister Sister
Good, but it's not Pete & Pete. Also, three-camera sitcom so bleh.
>Saved by the Bell
Good for how bad it is, not the same as actually being good.
>Moesha
Again: niggers. And this show sucked. Pass. You have terrible fucking taste, anon.
>>
>>224015229
For me its Eerie Indiana
>>
>>224015624
>Ellen and Big Pete's relationship
I thought they did a good job with this. Captured the awkward half-friends half-relationship situation between boys and girls at that age. Sometimes their romantic aspect was highlighted, other times they were just friends. Surprisingly accurate for how guys and girls that age manage their newfound attraction to each other.
>>
>>224016298
not him but they're mostly pretty good but no pete and pete.
>>
>>224015624
>it would’ve been better if it were more formulaic and generic
No. And Artie was a great character that added to the show.
>>
>>224016316
This show holds up surprisingly well. I just rewatched it and sure some stuff is dated but the premise is solid
>>
>>224016316
>>224016374
It's surprisingly funny
>Simon Holmes: What's a Liberal?
>Edgar Teller: [suddenly uncomfortable] I'll explain it to you when you're older.
>Marilyn Teller: Well, I don't care if he's a Liberal or an axe murderer, I want you two boys to stay clear of him, understood?
>>
>>224009046
Do Muppets count as cartoons?
Eerie, Indiana
Are You Afraid of the Dark?
Peewee's Playhouse
Beakman's World
Schoolhouse Rock
The Wonder Years
Salute Your Shorts
You Can't Do That on Television
Mr. Rogers

Hey Vern, It's Ernest
>>
>>224016316
I liked Eerie too but haven't watched it since I was a kid so I'll put it on my "to watch" list
>>224016323
It always felt inconclusive, too off and on without explanation, too contradictory to what the audience was just shown or told. The episode where they go on a bad date they decided that they're better off as friends and then they have them practically make out right afterwards, makes no sense.
>>
>>224016316
kino
>>
>>224016316
I recently just found out they made a followup series, Eerie, India: The Other Dimension.
>>
>>224012151
all the characters felt believable in a way i can't really describe
>>
>>224016683
>It always felt inconclusive, too off and on without explanation
Like life.
>>
>>224014520
you call it creator driven, something where the people making it had a vision and TV execs didnt interfere and water it down to make it more palatable and marketable
>>
>>224009092
it's kino and has aged surprisingly well
