But she warmed up to Data by the end of the season and became good friends with him.
Pulaski was a great character for that too since in season 1, Data was basically just a walking computer that gives info or a stand in for the audience to get information on stuff.
With Pulaski, you had someone to actually challenge him and why episodes like Peak Performance, which proved he can have things like self doubt, will always be the GOAT.

Even had a timeless Picard quote.

Criticisms of Generations are not unjustified, but it also has a lot of kino in between the missteps it takes, too. There should have been more dedicated to Picard and Kirk together cause that was so good. I still love it because the good parts are really great imo. Same. Kirk's segments were great. And I liked Soran as an antagonist. The motivation for Kirk/Picard/Soran finding different ways of coping with mortality was interesting
The stuff with the rest of the crew was pretty weak, especially Data's subplot.

Yeah hence why I said I don't agree with him 100% in everything.

Immigration and socially liberal positions like what you mentioned are what I disagreed with him right now, at least that I can recall right now, but still was far better than anything the UK had as an anti deep state option aside from Tony Benn (post 90's version and onwards only) who himself mentored Corbyn.

That said, I don't understand the glaze for him being masterful or outstanding figure, but to be fair I just recall him on his mainstream appearances like the old x-men movies and star trek.

Generations COULD have been good, but there were all of those decisions that were handed down by the company. Kirk had to be in it and die, passing of the torch had to be in it, Enterprise had to be destroyed, etc etc. The more years that go by, the more I reckon they did the best they could with the shit that was handed down to them. Not sure what else they could have done to get the two captains together aside from maybe use one of the original script ideas where the way Kirk died was sacrificing himself to save the Enterprise-D.

I've thought about Generations a lot of the years as a 'how could this be better' kind of thing and yeah, it's just stuck with too many things it had to do, and far too much subverting expectations crap, to be much more than what they did with it. You can fix stuff like have them all in proper uniforms not half DS9 ones for no reason, you could beef up the Klingons aspect by giving them a decent ship so there could be a proper space battle. Bring back a lot the cut scenes... but none of this would fix those core problems, it's just papering over the cracks a bit better and this was already a script that they went back and forth on for ages in development, as compared to All Good Things that they banged out the script for in record time.

Somewhat related, I'm worried about Robert Picardo, as insufferable as he has been lately. That "us all irrevocably" gaffe in Starfleet Academy was jarring as hell. Sure the NuTrek writers are braindead and he was sharing that scene with a busload of literal zoomer fucktards but he really should know better.

I mean IDK bro, all his movies arre great if not GOAT for me (aside from Pulp Fiction which I never really got or liked) especially Django as my all-time stand-alone (without a sequel or prequel) GOAT movie.

The reason i mentioned him or arnold (who had shit like Terminator 2 and some other movies) is because they had better quality parts of culture that I enjoyed as a goysumer in contrast to Stewart who (to be fair) I only had seen involved as capeshit back in the day or Star Trek which I never liked so him being a zionist isn't as hurting to me as the two I mentioned.

>Lower Decks (The episode, not the series)
I always liked these episodes because it shows what goes on beyond the command crew. Also feel for Taurik, since if TNG got an 8th season, they were apparently going to bring him back as a regular.

Although speaking of Lower Decks (The series not the episode) I was impressed how they got Shannon Fill to reprise her role as Sito after she effectively retired from acting after TNG. But that series had a knack for finding characters who appeared once or twice and giving a nod to them.

I like this scene in which Picard explains the gravity of the situation to Kirk in the kitchen, and Kirk is like "it's not my problem anymore" and Picard goes: "You are a Starfleet officer! You have a duty!" And Kirk replies: "I don't need to be lectured by you." (nice reference to Wrath of Khan birthday scene). Funny thing is when I watched the movie for the first time many years ago, I was firmly with Picard on this and I was like c'mon, Kirk, you can't be that selfish. Today I understand Kirk more and more. Suddenly Picard looks like a man who has nothing in his life but a duty as a Starfleet officer and no hope nor desire to change it.

Then for VI, they were going to have Cattral come back to play Savvik, but she vetoed the idea given Savvik already had 2 other actresses play her, so they created the new character Valeris.

This really hits me hard. I think TNG was the first adult TV I watched. Not sure exactly when, but it either was late '80s or early '90s. Can't remember if I was watching '80s TNG as it aired or in reruns in the '90s. I know for a fact I watched the last couple seasons of TNG live, along with DS9 and B5. The show had a kind of sincerity and timelessness that you don't really get now with everything trying to be edgy and relevant. Also Star Trek: Picard was an abomination and the fanservice final season doesn't save it.

Rare Stewart: He was a radio voice in The Plague Dogs. Absolute animation kino if you haven't seen it.

I never heard anything about Stewart being racist. But he did have a massive stick up his ass in season 1 due to his theater training, thinking everyone needed to be professional all the time and did once yell on set "WE ARE NOT HERE TO HAVE FUN!"
I actually got to see Stewart at a panel years ago and he did recount that. Also said it was Denies Crosby who sat him down for a talk that got him to relax and have fun like the rest of the cast. I wanted to get his autograph, but he was charging $100 for it. I really hate the commodification of everything.
But he was a big goofball for the entire panel was top tier in knowing how to work a crowd, so it was an amazing turn around.

This one impacts me more than any other celebrity death. TNG had a real feeling. A zeitgeist. A vibe. It paired really well with the emotional shift of the 1980s into the 1990s. That feeling of hope and excitement and possibilities. It's not just that Patrick Stewart died. It's that his death really cements that that kind of feeling is never going to come back. There isn't anymore true excitement for the future. No wondrous possibilities. The future seemed so bright in the 1990s. And now we know for a fact the future is grim, and getting grimmer by the day. This is like watching the final rays of sunshine as the sun sets knowing the next days will never compare.

not when they aired it on TV it's not. the TNG remaster is widescreen. it was shot in widescreen. as a result, you get a few things that were originally intended to be cut off on the sides. and the digital effects were all remade, since they lost the original files so it couldn't be HD upscaled. I don't know why you're saying otherwise, anyone who likes the show knows it to be untrue.

You can joke about virgin blood or whatever, but it's amazing how some people have The Genes. Last interviews with Stewart and Koenig I saw, they were doing OK but were clearly very elderly men. Last Shatner interview could have been with a 60 year old, not a guy who's 95. Unless he just drops dead out of the blue the guy is going to be 100+.

I had a friend who was still independent at 102, driving around texting on an Apple Watch and working on advisory panels at a company he was at 50 years earlier. He lived to 103.5. Guy gave me his pickup truck because he knew I'd be obligated to restore the fucking thing.

You would have absolutely despised Rick Berman's original script where the Borg were nerfed harder than they were in Voyager since the Quantum Torpedoes could one shot an entire cubse and the Federation destroyed like 16 full cubes before the Entierprise showed up and basically had to get to Earth by attrition.

Another thing I liked about First Contact was how the Federation changed their tactics from Wolf 359 since in that batle they sent their ships in by waves, which made them easy pickings to Locutus and the Borg cube. During the battle of Sector 001, the Federation just swarmed the cube with all their ships at once, the Federation fleet still took heavily casualties, but the cube sustained heavy damage already before Picard Desu ex machina'd a way to destroy it.

We are gathered today to celebrate and honor the extraordinary life and career of Sir Patrick Stewart, a performer of rare gravitas, boundless warmth, and enduring grace.

For over seven decades, Sir Patrick commanded the stage and the screen with a presence that was both authoritative and deeply human. To lovers of classical theater, he was a stalwart of the Royal Shakespeare Company, bringing intelligence, rigor, and unmatched vocal brilliance to the works of the Bard.

To millions across the globe, he became a beacon of optimism and moral clarity as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Through Picard, he showed us that true leadership requires empathy, diplomacy, and an unyielding commitment to justice. Years later, he redefined the superhero genre as Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men saga, portraying wisdom, compassion, and hope in the face of division.

Yet beyond his iconic roles, Patrick Stewart was revered for his humility, his keen sense of humor, and his fierce advocacy for social causes, including his support for domestic violence survivors and veterans. He walked through life with dignity, generosity, and an infectious delight in the craft of acting.

Sir Patrick Stewart leaves behind an indelible legacy that spans generations. Though he has taken his final bow, his voice, his art, and his spirit will continue to inspire us to reach for the stars.

To be fair, do you want to be known as the diplomat, or the action adventure guy?
Before anyone distorts what I say, yes Picard is the diplomat guy through and through, but I can see why Stewart wanted to be the adventure guy because that's where the fun and more mass appeal is. Even though as you mature, you come to appreciate the work of the diplomat who keeps the peace.
Makes you wonder what Picard's first reaction was when Martok tore up the Khitomer Accords because of Sisko.

The worst thing about current TV broadcasts is they trim parts of the episode to make room for more commercials and for this episode they end it on the scene of Graves's brain being in the computer and cut out the following scene where the crew tells Data what he was doing when Graves took him over and Riker joked that Data wrestled with a Targ.
It made the ending a lot more darker.

I never watched TNG or Star Trek as a whole, but every clip of Stewart's acting that has come across my feeds have been captivating and painted wonderous stories of a galactic journey that, should space exploration continue to progress, I and generations of my descendants shall not live to see.

Anons, be bold in all you do. Dare to pursue your wildest endeavors. Love with a passion that the world claims is foolish. Fall short time after time and continue to press on with renewed courage. For all your tales of turmoil and triumph shall be what you pass on to the next generation so that they too can inspire the weary souls and shaky spirits that follow them.

Old age.
When people in their late 80s die and there isn't anything suspicious about it, the hospital and their families usually opt out of finding out the exact cause of death, i.e. which organ gave out or whether it was a stroke or a heart disease that killed him in his sleep. That's all just "natural causes". I guess it is possible that there was a disease involved (other than demetia, which one does not die from) which the family does not want to reveal, but since there was no mention of even any vague illness in the press release, that seems unlikely.

The TNG bridge was made by people who had no understanding of why the TOS bridge was the way it was.
The TOS bridge has a practical grab rail, and Kirk can see every station, and reach them quickly himself if he needs to. It was designed to be useful.
On the TNG bridge, the half-ring serves no purpose, the slope is a trip hazard, and Picard can't even see what's going on behind him because of the pointless elevation.

the first season and a half of TOS is the best start trek. every episode is some form of human problem and how to overcome it. The issue is its not spacemen in a spaceship going around in space, its supermen going around the astral encountering archetypes and judging them. Star trek is really star trek for the setting and universe that the next 3 shows established and so if you really wanted to get into star trek i would recommend starting there with the understanding that the show is kind of hard to watch due to to the television format of the early 90s being really ass. ds9 is my favorite of the three. both tng and ds9 have kind of slow starts, voyager is the opposite, it starts strong and then gets stupid it probably should have ended at season 3 or 4, it has some really good episodes but getting to them is a challenge.

His Mr Bean work is too problematic for today, despite diverse casting, and has occasional homophobic jokes that would need to be readvertised as always having been pro-LGBT. He actually gives women the ick because he acts too much like a boy. His movie was missing the people who made Mr Bean work.
His Blackadder work was only good in 2, suffered in 3, and was passable in 4. Back-and-forth was good enough.
His other works are all very terrible and Johnny English showed he suffered the modernisation of writing, with a similarity to Jackie Chan's degradation if you look at the road stunts. Boomers enjoy it the most.

I haven't checked to see if he did a 180 and became more like John Cleese or if he dove head first into the ever evolving progressive dogma he himself was a part of.

>>224014465
But he pretended to be a commie in a video game I never played so he's my hero!

Darn, it's real. A legend has passed away. Patrick Stewart starred in some great movies. Some of those movies being the X-Men films, Dune, Excalibur, some of the Star Trek movies and shows. He was good in most of those movies I grew up watching. May he rest in peace. He even played a video game character in Castlevania: The Lord's of Shadow with the guy from 28 Weeks Later. I might check Patrick Stewart's theater plays like the stuff he did doing Shakespeare.

Boomerslop in service to the then still existing veteran bloc who fetishised the previous veterans.
Powerful and ethnically united. Causes suffering in (white) Britons who watch it even as children, creating shared belief. Respectable and if I tried to detract from it to say it's wrong a comedy ends like that, I'd be rightfully dogpiled on by you and any other good person here.
I don't know that if you were around for when that happened, you'd think of it as original or as powerful, it's quite of the religion of its time.

A shame that he advocated the replacement of the very people he made that for.

Similarly, I felt extremely angry when seeing image related. It did the horrors of WWI trenchslop and not half badly either... and then had the superwoman jump out of the trench to lead an American style hero's charge where the Germans started using nerf guns. And then the plot being about Nazi German gas chambers really proved Hollywood Americans should never try to depict the war they and their goblin masters don't care about.

I will say as an American I had a similar experience you described when I watched M*A*S*H and saw the final episode. The show definitely has a mix of comedy and serious moments, but the finale really lived up to the legendary hype of being this sort of swan song for the Old America and foreshadowing Vietnam and the 60s. Blackadder's finale played the same role too.
>Hollywood Americans should never try to depict the war they and their goblin masters don't care about
In all fairness nobody does anymore given 1914 is nothing but a burning memory. 1917 was abysmal while All Quiet On The Western Front turns one of the defining dark epics of the war that was done masterfully in 1930 into Saving Private Ryan action slop worthy of a Monkey Dust parody.

Yes, the powerful religious movement of "Never again" was a very good choice.
It was also, to put it this way:
Comedies are universally bad at closing. Tragedies are universally good.
Make it an inviolable message everyone agrees over as part of their ethnic identity and ta-da, perfection.

I am not a Star Trek fan and I only watched the 90s X-Men animated series without ever watching the live-action X-Men films, but even I know what a legend Patrick Stewart was and is and always will be. Patrick Stewart lived a good and long life. We're losing too many legends this year. Thrive in Heaven, Patrick Stewart.

>Maybe WWII is the burning memory
It is but not in the way WWI is. For as much as everyone talks about WWII being the birth of the world we live in that's true, but it ignores the fact that the old world was choked by gas in Flanders and torn down in Moscow. And that's why we all pretend to act like WWI never happened, because it's better to pretend there was never a more promising future before then.

Opposite for me.

There are alot of actors, musicians, celebrities that at one time I would have mourned the loss but now knowing that alot of them are in fact woke complete twats has changed all that.

The last person that died that made me feels was David Bowie, that really felt like the end of something significant.

The big problem with V was the scripts kept getting rejected and the budget kept getting slashed.
Since originally Sybok was going to be Satan and tempt Spock and McCoy into hell where Kirk had to rescue him, but both Nemoy and Dekelly were against it because they felt there was now way McCoy and Spoke would betray Kirk.
Plus the final showdown was going to have giant stone golems that they fought. Instead you saw what we got.

It was a deliberate design decision by Roddenberry to make the Galaxy class seem like a more peaceful design to contrast it with the concurrent movie era that dipped even harder into the militarism. It's why across TNG and early DS9 the Federation kept getting shrek'd by statistically inferior powers like the Ferengi: they were scientists, not soldiers.
>>
>>224016388
Generations should’ve been the TNG crew vs the mirror universe original crew
>>
>>224016387
Most people at conventions ask the most retarded basic questions that even a person in the middle of dementia can answer the questions. Shit like "What did Picard think of Riker" is stupid shit an actor can improv and tell some stupid anecdote of which he must have had hundreds.

It's only in the final two years where everything quickly craters where their understanding of current location and ability to identify people just utterly evaporates. He's physically healthy and he's an actor, which means he must have developed a high amount of neural pathways for the same idea so it's possible he held many ideas together even while 90% of the neuron chains were totally fried.

You have to imagine that a guy like Stewart had many real friends who could be discreet about his condition. Because they don't live in a world where they need to farm fucking clicks.
>>
>>224016387

But the cheap electronics that control those lights? Yeah those broke often. Owners had to replace the control boards. The solder joints on the small motherboards broke often. Or they malfunctioned and the digital dashboard started randomly malfunctioning and displaying the wrong information.

I remember my family had a big-screen CRT, but when one of the colors started failing, my dad made me take it apart and smash it up so we could throw it away. That was hard, both because the thing was huge and because I was attached to it. Also, the CRT juice spilled all over the garage floor. Was not expecting it to be full of fluid.
I did manage to sneak away with one component before it went to the dump, a big aluminum heatsink I still use to this day.

yeah, he knew. the thing about my dad is that he grew up really poor, like outhouse level poor.
while some people who grow up poor and then become well off as adults stay frugal because of it, that wasn't my dad's takeaway.
his whole childhood was hand me downs and stuff that had been repaired over and over. once he got out of poverty and made it into the upper middle class, he hated anything old or worn out. he wanted things to be new.
if something broke or needed repairs, his impulse is throw it away buy a new one. he'd even give me shit for wanting to fix things instead of throwing them away.

I doubt society is there to accept a full ai actor yet, it would likely push people away.

They would probably go for small cameos or promotional material initially to test the waters if a big actor's family ever agrees to it

>the only thing that can buy time is exercise or meds
Hearing aids/auditory therapy as well.
I work in Audiology and the difference between a dementia patient with severe hearing loss before and after treating it is wild. It isn’t a cure but the minute they’re able to hear high frequencies again they light up and start talking 50% more. Even with increased input it takes their brain a long time to catch up to speech but actively conversing at any speed daily vs not is the equivalent of lifting or doing cardio daily vs rotting in a chair as far as cognitive function goes. If you have an older relative with a family history of dementia or early symptoms rife their ass relentlessly about wearing their hearing aids if they have them. If they’re uncomfortable or they say they don’t do anything they likely just have a bad/lazy fitting or provider. They can customize most types of prescription aids to fit the wearer and if they’re attentive it only takes a visit or two to get things functioning and fit as needed. They might try to immediately upsell you on new hearing aids and if it’s in your budget do some deep research and get the newest tech from one of the big 3 manufacturers.

Rewatching TNG seems appropriate.

if you're willing to see the worldbuilding approached with more optimism, but with the same quality (I'd argue better) dramatic writing, with objectively better character development across the board, I highly recommended DS9. just like TNG it gets off to a shaky start but season 2 is great and once you get the defiant, bald/beard sisko, and worf, oofa. it's 10/10 (almost) all the way to the end. I still cry bitch tears at the finale, as good as All Good Things... is, What You Leave Behind hits like a fucking dump truck between Vic's and that final, slow pan outward.

He was a legitimate pussy destroyer. He had a month-long sex party with the female changeling, he banged a criminal so hard she tried to give up a life of crime to be with him, but was implanted with memories of having a husband. She wept at not getting that doppelcock again. He made a Bajoran see god. He then went on to be the king of the changelings because his cunnilingus was so good that they needed him to be permanently in the link and service them 24\7. He smiled as he descended into this Slaaneshi fuckfest of the ages.

He was a true sex hero, and on this space station Odo's a hero. END OF STORY!

Stewart wanted to stand out from the rest of the bridge crew because he was the most important character, being the captain. He had an ego. It was one of many small concessions made to him in the latter half of the show to make him stay.

This is the man who would later go on to write himself as a Jesus allegory when he got his hands on the pencils.

>Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
>We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
>America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.

When asked about the possibility of an afterlife, Stewart admitted he did not know what happens after death but expressed a deep feeling that existence extends beyond this earthly life.

“I don’t know what happens, but I have a very, very deep and acute feeling that there is more than this life that we lead,” Stewart said.

Sure, but I am recounting what I read in trivia magazines one thousand years ago. You can qualitatively talk about character differences, but that doesn't impact the intent of Stewart's desire to have a cool jacket. That is why of it; he wanted to have a cool jacket. I don't know if Riker insisted he have a beard because he wanted a cool beard, or if he grew a beard because he wanted a beard in his personal life and they ran with it on the show. This is highly philosophical. But the fact remains Stewart wanted a cool jacket and he was the highest paid and most important character, so by damn he got his cool jacket.

For the record I am anti-cool jacket. I think them looking uniform (as if in uniform, if you will) was a cool part of the aesthetic. That there was no glitz or glamour to their uniforms, only the utilitarian pips on their collars and otherwise they were equal. It was a cool part of the setting that they were all the same, so the content of their character (in both senses of the word) were what separated them. That was cool to me. I also think the showrunners broadly agreed with that, because no captain since has had a cool jacket. Sisko didn't get a cool jacket when he became a captain, Janeway never had a cool jacket, at least that I remember. So there was certainly a decision that ran contrary to the philosophy of the show. The idea that a captain has to stand out is a bit primitive, like your commander having a big feather standard on his back, or a jaguar head hood, to signify what a cool warlord he is, and how impressively proportioned his cock is.

Though all those things are cool, and so was Picard's cool jacket. But it was his ego that demanded it, that's a fact, and no one else followed in his footsteps. It is a good story to show how Stewart had no fucking clue what Star Trek was about. That said, peace on his memory. Based retard.
