Korean style of film making incorporates a lot more western ideas so their films turn out better imo. Ring is a great idea but the execution is patchy. The last scene with her coming out of the TV is genuinely great but the rest of the film is so-so. Ive seen a lot of 'artsy' or 'avant garde' jap films in my time and i dont think i really liked any of them. Bullet ballet, tokyo punch, cold fish, All About Lily Chou-Chou, Ichi the Killer, pulse, cure. Some of them have interesting ideas but they mostly suck.
