>Burton's Gotham: A vast, Neo-Gothic metropolis
>Nolan's Gotham: Chicago

Which do you prefer?

Batman and robin had my favorite gotham.
That being said batman begins gotham felt like its own place, it was big guy 4 you that just said "fuck it, its chicago with bridges"
>>
the name gotham came from the guy who wrote legend of sleepy hollow and means goat town
>>
Forever bad the best gotham, it was cynical yet dangerous.
>>
Timmy B had a great vision for Gtown.

art deco is absolutely necessary.

The Joel Schumacher one

Batman Begins' Gotham had it's moments.

To be fair to Nolan, Adam West's Gotham was just California.

perhaps cause it was still 2005 after all
but still

I actually like both versions of Gotham but they really serve very different Batmans. Nolan's story and aesthetic really fits the business suit and glass skyscraper scenery and I think trying to recreate it in a more neo-classical Gothic city wouldn't work so well.

Going for realism is a mistake for super heroes. They're supposed to be fantastic and surreal, the moment you try to pretend it's "realistic" it all falls apart; the suspension of disbelief one is ready to accept in a fantasy environment isn't there anymore and suddenly all the things that wouldn't raise an eyebrow get nitpicked into being dumb, and rightfully so, because the movie said "this is like reality".

Not to mention that the motivation behind this is simply to target to "adults", because they're assuming adults have lost their sense of wonder and are uncapable of enjoying a story that's too fantastical. Well if that's what you think, how about you don't make a super hero movie for them.

Truth Nuke, he is the midwit whisperer.
Most nolan movies feel completely souless/lack any art, with people in fancy suits (instead of having a actual character) talking way too much nonsense. Nolan movies since prestige already feel like they are AI written and generated.

Burton's movies were the perfect mix of realism and comic exaggeration.

Burton's Gotham is the best Gotham to this day, but it's important to recognize that Burton is not the mastermind of it. He didn't even like Batman in general. He hates the 1st movie. The real guy who designed it was Anton Furst. This guy was an exceptionally talented English production designer who did work for Ridley Scott, Stanley Kubrick and eventually Tim Burton who chose him to design Gotham since Batman was being filmed in London. He killed himself in 1991 before he was set to make a fantasy movie starring Michael Jackson. It's the reason that Gotham doesn't look nearly as good in Batman Returns >>223999188 because Burton took more creative control after his death and everything looks like a flat Hollywood set now. Hollywood lost one of its top creative talents way too early and no one ever recognizes him. Burton has a history of getting credit for way more talented people doing things for him (Nightmare Before Christmas especially)

Yeah he made Vietnam in England for Kubrick. Forever based.

Burton's, but only because nobody really had the accent in Nolan's film.

>Furst killed himself on 24 November 1991. He had separated from his wife and begun taking Halcion, a sleeping drug that had been banned in Britain due to its possible side effects of amnesia, paranoia, and depression. His drinking also became more of a problem.[5] He was scheduled to check into rehab in 1992. On the night of 24 November 1991, he told his friends he was going to the car to fetch his cigarettes. Instead, he jumped off an eight-storey building.[6]
>He was survived by his daughter, son, mother and sister.[1]

I like Returns a lot, but it's true that it feels less alive and more obvious that it is a set. They had more locations to worry about though so the city parts are smaller in scale.

Chicago has bridges. Many of them
