Why exactly were the Hobbit films so bad? How could Jackson drop the ball so hard? They're actually painful and embarrassing to watch. I like to pretend they don't exist as they smear the LOTR trilogy with their existence.
it should've just been a single film. It could even be four hours long but the story of the Hobbit was never meant to be some ebin LOTR-esque trilogy
>>223996423>short story forced into a movie trilogy>each one is almost 3hrs longIndeed what could go wrong?
>>223996423even at like 12 hours long for the extended editions LOTR left a lot of footage unused, and the story was compressed and cut down a lot to make it work before they started filming, the hobbit is the opposite, it's a much shorter story with loads of padding and filler to make it the same length because the studio wanted it be three huge movies the same as LOTR.
>>223996449Yeah, it's a real head-scratcher why they stretched it out like that.
>>223996580What was filmed and left out of LOTR?
>>223996423They're bad? says who?
Imagine making Lord of the Rings trilogy you would think you could do no wrong
i didn't think they were bad. cool fantasy adventure movies
>>223996423I enjoyed them, dont care what others say
There was 0 pre-production done. Guillermo del Toro dropped out at the last minute and Peter Jackson had to come in to try to rescue the project. The studio wanted 9 hours of movie from a book that can be read in an afternoon. Basically everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.
>>223996702there were a few scenes in trailers that never made the final cut of the movies (relatively common thing), like eowyn getting ready to fight a few orcs that find their way into the caves at helms deep, longer prologue with elf king gil-galad vs sauron, lots of small character interaction scenes that would probably have just felt like they were bloating the runtime like some of the stuff that made it back into the extended edition does, and some stuff that never should have wasted time being filmed to begin with, like arwen leading the elves at helms deep.
>>223996423Same thing that happened to George Lucas: He made the OT when no one believed in him and he had a hunger for success. When he made the prequels, everyone had been telling him he was amazing and was in a totally different mindset. The hunger to be successful was gone, he wasnt going to practically kill himself with stress on the Prequels the way he almost did on the OT.Peter Jackson had a lot to prove making LOTR, he wasnt the name he was now, and people were ready to hate on him it the LOTR sucked. Then everyone told him he was amazing when the LOTR movies had huge success. Just like Lucas on the Prequels, Jackson was in a different mindset making The Hobbit, and had the same problems making good movies, and The Hobbit ended up sucking just like the Prequels.
>>223997582tbf as another anon said he came in last minute after del taco left, he could have said no but unfortunately he took up the challenge and failed spectacularly. stood up and left during the first film for how shitty it looked, using the nazgúl theme for thorin charging? get fucked
>>223996449It could have been two films, that would have worked, but a whole trilogy? retarded
It makes perfect sense. Watch his other movies or even watch LotR extended edition.
