Do you think normies will actually start doing this or is it all performative? Neither DVD or BD will have any of the movies made in the last 10 years available. There will be no true-crimeslop or netfix/hulu shows etc that women love so much
>>
>>223995147
They watch movies with phone in one hand anyways. They will just scroll for couple of minutes more
>>
>>223995147
there's only one seson needed anyway, and it's out, while all the other series are utter garbage.
>>
Normies never knew or cared about bluray, did they
>>
>>223995147
No, it's all just performative and social media like bait. The average normie and especially zoomer would die if they had to oprate a dvd player or swap discs.
And if they really wanted to they could simply google the name of the movie or show they want and stream it at the same shit quality as netflix and disney+ on their phones
>>
>>223995147
>Neither DVD or BD will have any of the movies made in the last 10 years available.
Not sure if retarded.
>>
>>223995147
Disney BDs also had mandatory unskippable ads before every movie. Except it was the same ad for the same 6/10 movie every time.

VHS to DVD felt like a massive upgrade in audio/video quality, durability and convenience. I started collecting BDs too near the end but it was hardly worth it. Most of the time I couldn't tell the difference.
>>
>>223995800
>>223995395
bluray was a minor upgrade, mostly for film purists who wanted crisp grain
>>
Two question marks, two commas and a period. All you need to know.
>>
>>223995147
I remember when streaming just started becoming a thing and it was all ad free, now there is an ad every 5 minutes regardless of how much you pay

>owning them FOREVER
until the disc gets a tiny invisible scratch that makes it skip whole sections of the movie
>>
>>223995829
That is highly dependable on what source they used. Some early DVDs of older films used old scans that were all over the place in quality. Blu-rays as standard always used a 2k or higher scanned source and some later DVDs of modern films are comparable. That said, saying it is "minor" isn't true either. I watched some films on DVD tons of times growing up and more recently watched them on blu-ray and I was taken aback at how different they looked at higher quality having watched them some many times before I was constantly noticing the difference.
>>
>>223995829
Bluray is a huge upgrade over dvd, your eyes are fucked if you can't recognize it
>>
>>223995395
They were overpriced for a minimal quality boost. Just like the Super CD which almost no millennial under 40 knows about
>>
>>223995147
No. Guarantee whoever random twitter person this is isn't the person in the pfp and is already a "oh, I don't -stream- I have the -physical disc-" person already. Convenience will always trump anything else with normies. 90% of people don't even watch whatever they have on streaming they're just using it for background noise so they don't feel lonely.
>>
>>223995147
>Neither DVD or BD will have any of the movies made in the last 10 years available.
That isn't true. I am sure several movies and tv shows made exclusively for streaming platforms may never get official physical releases, but there are plenty of modern movies being released to DVD or BD regularly.
>>223995955
This. Sometimes it isn't much different, but usually it is. Also sometimes directors or movie studios mess with the visuals for different releases.

>>223995147
Normies binge-watch shows on Netflix or Disney+ on a weekly basis. They might burn through 2 seasons in a week and move on to the next series. If you bought a DVD set of those same shows it would cost a LOT more than the monthly subscription fees. DVD box sets are expensive shit (well I don't know if they even sell that shit anymore). Like you could get maybe 1 season worth of DVDs for the price of 1 month of Netflix. During that 1 month a person will watch a lot more content than that one box set includes. So comments like the OP tweet are just empty threats. Normies will never go back. You'd have to be able to order an entire season worth of DVDs for like 5-6 bucks and get it delivered to your home fast and still it would be hardly a better deal than streaming
>>

Digital ID being required to use the internet, which fully tracks everything you do is coming in the next few years. Maybe even within the next 12 months depending on how far they push the AI shit. Getting as much media downloaded and backed up as you can right now is definitely important.

Bluray was invented at the time when any chump with an internet connection and a USB stick could pirate a bluray quality film within a day.
Why go through all the hassle of BUYING all those stupid disks and an expensive player when a shitty hard drive can be filled up with a hundred bluray quality films, for free, and played on basically any device.

Blue ray was twice as expensive than a dvd with an imperceptible change in quality, unlike the cd-to-dvd jump.
It was the beggining of the tech creep, "pay a lot more to have a little more power" that persist untill today
>>
>>223996014
no, it's called remastering, it has nothing to do with the disc format

>>223995147
Not really a normie, but I already don't use Sling and Amazon Prime for anything but sports now because their streams for movies are deceptive, that is, their quality is not what they advertise and they shove ads in all the shows that aren't movies at a ridiculous rate. Think TV ads times 30 at least.
>>
>>223998403
>remastering
It's color grading, they deliberately removed red to make the image appear more crisp, and to create a larger contrast to the DVD versions
>>
Why do physicalfags pretend DVDs are THE way for movies? They're only 480p.

It's kind of perverse that their main business model for the last ten to twenty years has been preventing people from getting access to content. It would be one thing if this was to get money to the artists, but they're also doing their utmost to prevent artists from being paid.
>>
>>223999409
They get off on control. My Sony UHD player won't even STOP the movie I'm playing 99% of the time, so I have to turn it off.
>>
>>223999114
I never watched a movie in 480 and then in 4k and suddenly it was like a different film with a different plot and characters and a totally different ending that the 480 version didn't have. I feel like the only justification for 4k is if the "movie" is slop for idiots who just wanna see big things go boom
>>
It’s performative. Because then they hylics will say “hyuck hyuck i WAAAANTED to cancel muh hulu nax Disney plus but buying every dvd is sooo expensive.” Like they aren’t aware of torrenting at this point and if they still hate the idea of that then there’s no saving them
>>
>>223998577

>>
>>223999463
It helps to watch on a TV and not a phone screen, true.
>>
>>223999470
Yeah but that's what I'm saying. 480 on a tv is fucking fine for every reasonably good STORY.
>>
>>223999114
I grew up watching vhs on 21 inch crts and the movies were amazing
>>
>>223999485
I'm not saying 480 is trash, but 2160p is so much better.
>>223999491
Same and I even had TVs that were smaller.
Sometimes it's nice to be able to read things in films and to also make out some of the finer details. I'm not really bashing 480p or even 240p enjoyers, but 2160p is the best if it's available.
>>
>>223999253
I never had the problem
>>
>>223999544
Okay that's fair. I just don't think it's necessary beyond 1080 like the other guy said. It's a slight enhancement at that level of pixel density. It's why something like 16k would be idiotic because the image is already dense beyond the range of perception. For me, I have good eyesight, 720 seems as sharp as I need it to be to read everything.
>>
>>223999552
It depends on the player and the disc. Sony seems to be the worst with that, then followed by Samsung. My Pioneer DVD/Laser combo never ever gave me any lip, so there's one for the 480 crowd.
>>
>>223995147
>I wanna go back!
Well... you can't
>>
>>223999566
>16k would be idiotic
I agree since most movies don't offer it and certainly not something like The Wizard of Oz, or ever Star Wars.
Don't get me wrong, if a film is available in "just" 720, it doesn't make me cry. I've even watched films in 144p because there was absolutely nothing else.
>>
>>223995147
I have some long bets on physical media coming back, not as big as it once was but not gone. Look at vinyls resurgence. Streaming CAN be nice but the companies go out their way to make it an inferior option to sailing the seas
>>
>>223999575
I use a Sony DVD player. But its over 20 years old at this point. maybe the newer ones don't allow it.
