Why isn't Russia producing kino these days like they used to?
>>223991299Too busy conditioning their population to blow up grandmas in Ukraine
>>223991320seems like a snarky comment but there it's true. The soviet union produced mass amounts of kino as they valued cultural influence. So you had movies like A Visitor to a Museum or Dead Man's letters being made which depicted how shit life would be in case of nuclear fallout. The Putin dictatorship and oligarchy don't care about culture. They only care about control, power, and economic influence. Hence making movies that are actually kino no longer happens.
>>223991299Russia in late stage capitalism now. As the rest of the world.
>>223991299We have some "mafia" in our kino industry. They just get money from our government to make some "traditional values" movies - fairytales\nostalgia remakes. They make such content with low quality, but by the law they can't be jailed. So - our filmmakers make money before filming and don't answer for result outcome.
Russia is unironically in a worse state than during the stalinist era. They declared anyone who doesn't produce government approved slop as foreign agents.
>>223991299They went bankrupt after their leader wanted to conquer the old USSR countries back.
she looks familiar....
>>223991299Was it kino? It felt like 99% of Soviet films were about war. That shit got old after awhile.
>>223991299They still make kino, but unfortunately it's also propaganda slop.Union of Salvation is a stunning movie, absolutely beautiful, masterfully shot, but it's authoritarian propaganda with the message of "your leaders know better, obey without question".
>>223992391It's also pseudohistory filled with deliberate lies, but you kind of come to expect it from historical movies
>>223991299They are, its just POV footage of their grunts being hunted by drones instead of stage plays.
>"war le bad">suddenly get an urge to invade >"hmmm on the other hand maybe war le good?"
