Why did so many films prior to the 1960s feature people "drowning" in quicksand, when you can't sink in past your waist due to the human body's buoyancy? Was it propaganda to dissuade children from being naturally inquisitive and exploratory?

It's mostly exotic and serves as a type of cliff hanger. Having a person trapped in immanent danger without actually going anywhere gives the writer freedom to either draw out the plot or develop other situations. The problem is that to be a proper cliff hanger like hanging off an actual cliff, there needs to be stakes that actually seem more dangerous than just dying from thirst.

>>223988104nigga I know you didn't just list Prince of Persia unless there's some movie called "The Sands of Time" that came out before the 60's that I never heard ofquicksand has always been a playground-tier urban legend, it isn't hollywood propaganda just because some standup comedian and a few tv shows mentioned itDo you think "the floor is lava" is some conspiracy devised by the entertainment industry too?
Come to think, it's been a very long time since I've heard of quicksand. It doesn't seem to be in modern media anymore. I think it might appear in a video game, but nothing recent comes to mind.

>>223988288>>223988840I used to masturbate to this as a kid, laying facedown I would put a pillow or blankets under my crotch and rock on it while thinking about being killed in a battle and being stepped on and pushed down into the mud. Any situation involving people being killed or trapped or helpless used to give me a massive boner. I didn't understand sex but when I did I would masturbate imagining female WW1 soldiers charging into machingun fire and being wounded and slowly sinking into mud, with their comcrades stepping over their soft female bodies covered in mud and blood and sinking helplessly into oblivion, their soft asses jiggling as stray bullets hit their soft innocent bodies, their wombs beung wasted on a pointless war and slowly rotting in a putrid quagmire of mud.

>>223987906>Why did so many films prior to the 1960s feature people "drowning" in quicksand, when you can't sink in past your waist due to the human body's buoyancy? Was it propaganda to dissuade children from being naturally inquisitive and exploratory? The guys from Storror tried wading into quicksand for one of their videos, and seemed genuinely horrified by how difficult it was to get out of, and they are parkour athletes, who have routinely done stupid crap, including climbing up and down giant dam spillways, and into tiny pipes into underground bunkers, as well as jumping from one skyscraper to another. I think one or more of them lost shoes, and they really had a difficult time getting out. The other issue, is that quicksand is toutinelly found along waterways, or shorelines, were tides or rising water could potentially drown a person, or leave that person stuck for hours, or even days, to starve or freeze to death, if nobody went out and found them, and could help get the person out. Then there is another issue, that is way less of an issue nowadays, since there have been a number of programs in the last 75-125 years to drain swamps, but the decaying matter in swamp areas can create “Marsh Gas”, a mixture of methane, hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, and phosphine. Marsh Gas is heavier than air, and can cause asphyxiation and death, and areas were Marsh Gas used to be found were routinely full of dead animals, or the bones left over from them. The average human adult is tall enough the the gasses will not affect them or do so severelly, but if you fall, or get stuck in Quick Sand in an area with Marsh Gasses, then you are low enough to asphyxiate due to lack of oxygen.
>>223991065Yes, it would be a horrific way to go. Instead of suffocating quickly, you are stuck to rot until you finally die of exposure or some other slowly creeping up cause. This video is of a man who went fishing in Atlanta, Idaho and got stuck. Had he not be in shouting distance of others who were able to get help, he likely would have died in that spot.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSpyMvdzN4E&t=180Warning: stupid dramatic music
>>223988104>The Sands of Time>Lawrence of Arabia>Beach Blanket BingoThere is more than one type of quicksand. “Wet Quicksand”, tends to firm around rivers, or in coastal areas, and is a mix sand, and other ingredients that essentially lubricate that sand, and create a dense liquid one can sink into. “Dry Quicksand” can form in Desert regions, likely by air blown sand than has not compacted, resulting in loose sand that looks solid, but which one can sink into quickly. In both cases, the sand particles can be rounded, preventing the sand grains from gripping each other, and making the sand into essentially a pit of micro ball bearings, or a ball pit. In the case of wet quicksand, the additional materials in the sand, such as ultra watery clay, can act as lubricants for the rounded sand grains.

>>223987906Probably for the same reasons that cars explode when you shoot their gas tanks in the movies and humans being able to get knocked out for hours without dying or suffering permanent brain damage if you hit them just hard enough. Total adherence to realism in fiction just makes for boring stories. The latter is why Batman's no kill rule would never work in real life.

>>223997232It's not a rule set in hardened stone the rule became because Batman was so traumatized that he abhors death and killing due to the shooting of his parents. The killer (commonly a homeless man Joe Chill) is forgiven by him in some series and vengeance is taken in others(batman killed a lot pre-1980s-90s comics)
