The fact It'll be nothing but torture porn and simultaneously they're not going to have the balls to touch half the fucked up shit that happens in the comics has already put it on my never watch list. Imo it's 15 years too late for a movie adaptation. The comic hasn't even had a popular release since 2013.

Is the Gill Man the most fucked and shat on Universal Monster? They haven't given him a movie in half a century and there seems to be no interest in ever doing so. Even his fans seem to have jumped ship over to the Invisible Man. He's got nothing left. No future. What's he going to do?

>They haven't given him a movie in half a century and there seems to be no interest in ever doing so.
John Carpenter tried in the 90's before The Mummy reboot and Guillermo del Toro tried in the 2000's (it's why Shape of Water happened), James Wan tried but that shitty Wolfman movie killed it, Universal is the holdout.
>>
>>223973877
I think Frankesntein's Monster would've tried if he spent more time with the old man, he'd play his violin and teach the monster to dance, would've been nice.

Probably because "spooky water monster" is the most generic and overused trope of movie monsters.

This was decent.
It's the first Ti West film I've seen that had zero cucking. Even his VHS short had cucking.
>>
>>223973781
It's crazy how The Phantom of The Opera is one of the earliest film adaptations, and is still one of the closest to the source material. They changed the ending slightly, but otherwise it's a very faithful adaptation of the Gaston Leroux novel.

Hey anons, just finished my 31 Days of October Challenge. I've been watching them in small binges. Go ahead and judge my list, I tried to mix in plenty of movies I hadn't seen.
1. Backrooms (2026, rewatch)

Honestly? It’s one of my favorite movies of all time, I’m glad you picked it out of the list. It’s not a perfect film by any means, but something about it feels special. The practical effects feel like they were done with love, and the isolated rural setting draws on the obvious Thing inspirations in a way that compliments instead of detracts. Basically I recognize the movie as an imperfect piece of art, but I’ve also seen it dozens of times and I’ll always compliment it

I'd be giga pissed.
All they need to do to make a new Black Laggon movie is make it more like a modern slasher.
Maybe it's budget that's keeping them from doing it. They'd need a boat, a lagoon, underwater swimming scenes, a suit etc. That's more than a mask and a knife.

To add to my post, as a huge Lovecraft fanboy and a shameless fan of cosmic horror, the Void is arguably the best cosmic horror movie that never explicitly mentions anything in the Cthulhu mythos. It adapts the themes in a way that effortlessly carries the same motifs, I like that it tries to build its own mythos as the movie unfolds

The new Insidious was shit. The dentist stuff was disgusting. The geek squad was replaced with a black female tattoo artist. The climax was lifted straight out of Jumper. All the references to the previous films just made me wish I was watching those.

Frankenstein was boring. But the scene where the guy carries the dead girl to town and everyone reacts was great. Still the majority of the film is just people talking in parlors.
>>
>>223974619
I have to agree about Insidious. I mean the grossout stuff was amusing, but felt out of place. It's just become a one stop shop for generic spooks, for the "lets go see that horror movie, the scary one" crowd.

>>
>>223974536
It's a Christmas movie. Cute and funny clown girl is no longer cute and funny.
If the chosen one stuff in 2 bothered you, you might find 3 a bit annoying, but it almost plays second fiddle to Art going around doing holiday antics.
The biggest complaint I had about 3 was how they unceremoniously kill a main character off screen. Still no idea what they were thinking with that one.
>>
>>223973872
Wow the main character in this was a fucking idiot
>>

My guess? Perhaps they didn't. They did the classic "completely mutilated character" death which means it could have been someone else.

Sometimes, I wonder what a Hammer version of the Invisible Man and the Creature from the Black Lagoon would have been like.
Same as I wonder what director could have given us 90's/2000's remakes in the same vein as Coppola's Dracula, Branagh's Frankenstein and Johnston's Wolfman (Sommers' Mummy is fucking great but it's a completely different story).
I imagine Del Toro would have loved to do a remake of CftBL, seeing how he basically made an unoficial one with Shape of Water. Also, seeing how awesome Sleepy Hollow is, maybe Burton would have done a nice Phantom of the Opera.
What are your ideas, /hor/?
>>223973781
Cool pic OP, but it should be 3x3 and include Claude Rains as the second Phantom of the Opera.
>>
>>223975003
I think it's sad Hollywood hasn't seen the value in CFTBL.
I mean it has a good basic skeleton which is going for a boat trip up a river. Tha'ts Anaconda right, you get all the fun the snakes and monkeys and maybe tribespeople and whatnot.
And then there's with the aspect of the creature being the last of it's kind, and pseudo lusting after the female lead.
The other thing from the original that I think is special is the opening, it's quite unique. It sets the stage with this monologue about the creation of the earth, and about the vast passage of time, the oceans, and evolution. Sometimes I wonder if it influenced Ringu, because they both open with shots of a black ocean.
>>
>>223975048
Also, I guess you could say one difference is that all the other universal monsters can speak, so they make for easier character dramas. And the trick of the creature is to show his character arc, but I don't think that's too hard.

It's another cautionary tale about the dangers of obsession. Rex wasn't naive, he was fully aware he was being lured into a trap, but the entire movie shows how he's unable to let go of his obsession with knowing what exactly happened with his wife even years after she was kidnapped, and can almost safely be presumed to be dead after so long and how this obsession consumed his life even after he got himself a new girlfriend who ended up leaving him because of it. Rex was frustrating to watch the same way the guy from Audition and Bear in Obsession was, they all let their personal obsessions with women they were in love with override all their logic and reasoning and ended up suffering heavy loses because of it.

Um... I don't know what this was. This kind of hurt me. I think you all know I'm no stranger to bizarre, stupid, and incompetent filmmaking, but this just made me feel lost and confused. I don't know what one thing in it has to do with the other, it's plotless, formless, premiseless. There are vampires. There's Oliver North. It's mostly parodying Jim & Tammy Faye Bakker. Scenes just jump from one to another without any connection between characters, theme, anything. The audio is some of the worst I've ever run across, I had my volume up to the max and couldn't make out some of the dialogue. If there's music in the scene, forget it, you aren't hearing anybody. >>>/wsg/6260357

I think because I watched them in release order (Curse 1 and 2 and then Grudge 1 and 2) I found Grudge 1 just more of the same from the Curse films but Grudge 2 felt different enough, a tad more creative. Grudge 1 is still very good but the lower budgets of the Curse films add a creepy quality.

Also you should watch a combined edit of Curse 1 and 2 because Curse 2 has a lot of flashbacks/recap to Curse 1.

somehow it still worked for me even though i'd watched the american version (not scary at all btw) first. i thought it had the most effective scares out of the three (so far). 2 is much more tense and unsettling, and also has better lighting, but the actual action didn't really do anything for me, not even once, whereas it worked almost every time in 1. also the plot felt more...stupid.
and for the long disturbing scenes i thought kairo did it better anyway.
the one thing the US remake has going for it is how they made the kid stand a bit farther away in the elevator scene at first and then move closer instead of being close the whole time.

Either you don't come from the old internet or you're hyper intelligent.
But then, you'd know that's why that person is acting like that.
But then, you'd know that backhandedly pointing out behaviors is the only way to ensure someone will "self-incept"
But then, you'd know that there's no real solutioning being done by vaguely pointing out flaws in individuals online, hoping they become ethologically altruistic
....
But then, you'd likely understand the unified elements of reality and be compelled to inaction for effective observation

Listen here you glowing "CIA" shit, you're only as effective as controlling me as your mind can understand so I'll always have the edge.

A bunch of college age mormons dressed up as goths are vampires (the vampires have a university sanctioned Gothic Club as their cover.) It's hilarious watching all these chubby squares making a movie about how cool they think black raincoats and black lipstick are. Deeply wants to be both Buffy and Blade. Despite being only an hour, it's kind of an epic; the main character goes from being a picked-on dweeb to a cool vampire to betraying all the vampires and helping kill them to then turning all his friends into vampires and needing to be decapitated for becoming pure evil. Majestically lame.

Not bad Boston comedy about a temp agency that's turning its employees into voodoo-style zombies so they don't have to pay them. It's concept is so bad (imo) that I kind of hated the movie despite it being actually kind of funny. The heroine calls the villain crazy and he responds sadly "Just because a man is insane, people call him crazy." lol. Also an hour, also on Tubi. The director is still making stuff after 30 years and works at the post office.

I watched "Messiah of Evil" (1971 - 1974) an was exactly like pic related.
>inb4 "it's kino!"
No, it's not. It tries to be a California art school project and a horror movie at the same time and kind of fails at both. It wasn't even finished. Some Frenchman bought the raw film material, had it edited and released it a few years later.

Gloria Katz looked exactly like I'd imagined a 1960's "Gloria Katz" would look like.
>But anon, it was the 1970s!
Yeah, tell Gloria's hairdresser that, he was still living in the early 1960s by the looks of it.

My wife’s mother is visiting, and Tuesday night she’s cooking us a carp. It’s a tasty fish, I have nothing against it. But because it’s supposedly filled with impurities, she buys it live. And for three days it’s been swimming up and down in my bathtub. Up. And down. And I hate it. I can’t stand the sight of it... moving its gills. I haven’t had a bath for three days. Pretty thorough and solid video for some Scarecrow watchin, lot of ground covered. Never really thought about the scarecrow as kind of cohesive subgenre - and..it's kind of not. Mostly aesthetic, but also generally do share a cohesive Americana micro-regional specificity that nearly constitutes genre. They just lack a suitable arche story mythos or theme (beyond Wizard of Oz).

Suprised 'Scarecrows' 1988 isn't more of a staple here. late 80s action that's basically Predators seems super /hor/ coded

there's basically an alternate story mode you can play after you get the first two main endings, they add a bunch of optional Faith crap in (items and enemies and a new final boss) and there's new cutscenes, a lot of which are the harsh outline Faith style rotoscoping instead of the normal live action ones

Everything involving Haley Joel Osment being haunted by dead people who are terrifying at first until he finally realizes they just want him to help them with any unfinished business they have left on Earth that still keeps them from moving on to the afterlife completely is extremely similar to what happens in The Changeling, even down to a child being murdered by one of their parents purely for personal gains.

I don't hate trans women, I think some can be passing and cute. But a woman giving up her beauty to become a man just irks me. I don't know why but I can't stand it.
