I hadn't read book 6 since it came out, and not seen the film for years. I used to read a lot of gen and they got the basic nuances.The moment a specific non-canon pairing is involved, the writers start forcing a square peg fit into a round hole for some reasons. Mayby for the sake of simplicity, dunno. But it ends up bearing no resemblance to the source material whatsoever.
