    >What is this thread? Why are there two generals?
/rcg/ was initially created as a way for the roller coaster enthusiasts on here to discuss all things roller coasters and theme parks. While roller coasters are the main focus of these threads (and the title of the general) there is also discussion on other theme parks, their rides, as well as the parks themselves and trip planning too. That's where /tpg/ comes in.
    >Can I talk about Six Flags / United parks in this thread?
Absolutely! Six Flags / United discussion of all sorts including rides/resorts/dining/trip planning is OK.

    General Rules:
    1. Talk about Theme Parks and/or Rollercoasters.
    2. There is no second rule.

    >>
    >>2918455
    >Legally
No this is just Six Flags doing it for the needed safety imagery. It even is solving the fattie issue because now someone like that guy will be too fat to put on the seatbelt and have to do the walk of shame
And this is only changing three rides (Goliath in Over Georgia, Nitro, Raging Bull) every single other B&M hyper/giga has one. You don’t notice them. You can unbuckle when you get top of lift if you really care
    >>
    >>2918455
    Faulty sensor it is!

Aren't the belts for the lap bar purely a "it's now impossible to spring open or have someone in that can't get 3 clicks" thing rather than something really restrictive?

the thing with Paultons is it doesnt have an 'e-ticket' ride getting tourists travelling 200 miles like you would for Alton Towers. Likely wont have when the last expansion area is becoming accommodation. They copied to Europa model of having many mid tier attractions but forgot that Europa also has top tier coasters.
I know plenty gush how good the hospitality is - cool.

A small park on Lake of the Ozarks in rural Missouri is scheduled to open next spring. It will eventually include an indoor waterpark and a Marriott Hotel.

RCDB says 2 coasters, both Vekoma family models - a suspended one and a boomerang. Parking and admission will be free.

That’s a myth. Yes that’s one of the purposes but they can work as a secondary restraint in the event of a restraint failure. Millennium Force and Fury would both hold you in with a seatbelt alone. It’s not ideal but as a backup they would work and withstand forces much stronger than a human body

Why did they bother? I will shout out the studio tour though. Reminds me of USF before they ruined it.

Fast and Furious is good, kind of like a less intense Time Traveler with lawn mower sound effects the whole time. They’re running two trains despite having two loading docks.
    >>

    >but they can work as a secondary restraint in the event of a restraint failure
Maybe... Nylon webbing is very strong, and my guess is it (and the buckle) are capable of holding a guest in, but the designers probably tell parks "no guarantees" because they're technically rider size gauges

It’s a really dumb myth if you think about it. There are two kinds of seatbelts parks could buy: ones that are functional and ones that aren’t. Of course they bought the functional ones.

I personally don't understand why hating SF and regional parks in general is required for posting in the roller coaster general.
    >>
    >>2918703
The most prolific posters are Disney and Universal adults who seem to live in Florida and have cheap Florida resident passes. For the rest of us it costs that much just to go to those parks for a day or two. The Disney Adult is also afraid of roller coasters and likes the vibes and food and merchandise more than the one and done mannequin rides.
    >>
    >>2918703
No one hates them, poorbro. Six Flags parks are like fast food restaurants. We all end up there eventually, some more often than others. The problem is when you start insisting that fast food is actually fine dining, or on par with fine dining. That’s when you get laughed at.
    >>
Great Yarmouth Scenic Railway in 1935. Never realised the ride used to have such incredible theming for back then.
    >>
    >>2918714
No one is insisting that. Is a park like Cedar Point more fun than a multi billion dollar highly themed Orlando park? It’s subjective for I suspect most who have been to both would say yes. You can only ride Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway once to twice before you’re bored to tears, for example. I was bored on my first ride through. Same with Rise. The most reridable attractions are thrill rides at Disney

    >b-but CP is seasonal
The year round SF parks get mogged by Disney and Universal parks too.

I suspect this is because SF parks are usually boring unless you’re actually on a ride, which isn’t the case for Disney/Universal.
    >>
Do you think Dollywood's next ride will be a big thrill coaster? All their recent editions have been family rides.
    >>
    >>2918703

    >>
    >>2918721
Irrelevant. They’re not in competition. Cedar Point doesn’t market itself nationally or internationally, it doesn’t have major billion dollar IP branding, it’s primarily roller coasters and it’s in the middle of nowhere with no viable infrastructure to get to there easily. Compared with other regional parks it is more of a destination park with the resorts and beach and massive amount of rides and world class coaster collection but it’s still almost entirely visitors from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and western PA with some coming from KY and IL. Some people from farther away do visit but it likely has little effect on attendance. I said people who have been to both would most likely consider Cedar Point more fun. Fun being the keyword.
    >>
    >>2918721
    >I suspect this is because SF parks are usually boring unless you’re actually on a ride, which isn’t the case for Disney/Universal.
Why do you say that? They have dole whip and churros at Cedar Point too. A themed queue is better than unthemed switchbacks but the Orlando parks still have some unthemed switchbacks and people are still bored in both types of queues and playing heads up
    >>
    >>2918734
What people do with their time and money is definitely relevant to your question of
    >Is a park like Cedar Point more fun than a multi billion dollar highly themed Orlando park?
And their answer to your question is clear: not only do people attend Disney/Universal parks far more than Six Flags parks, but they’re spending far more money to do it. $55 bought you 16 months of admission and parking to all 42 Six Flags parks, but that wouldn’t even buy you two days of parking at Disney/Universal. This is why Six Flags lost $1.6 billion in 2025.

You also answered your own question here:
    >it’s still almost entirely visitors from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and western PA with some coming from KY and IL
If Six Flags was more fun than Disney/Universal it could attract more than locals, but as you pointed out,
    It mostly doesn’t.
    >>2918735
You also kind of answered your own question here - when you tried to think of things you can do at parks besides being on rides, what you came up with was waiting in line for rides. This actually IS the best thing you can do besides being on a ride at most Six Flags parks (I liked the Brad Ross magic show at SFOT). But that isn’t the case for Disney/Universal and several other well-designed parks like Dollywood and SDC.
    >>
    >>2918716
This is one reason why I wouldn't want to live in Florida/California and have yearly access to these parks. No matter how technically impressive a slow dark ride is, you will get bored or tired of them over time, even after a few times. I remember going on Haunted Mansion twice in one day and even loving that ride I was getting tired of it, I could not imagine it being a thing you go daily.
At least with thrill parks you are less likely to be tired of thrill coasters and you can save interest for the high themed stuff for your sporadic visits. And then depending where you are you have 3-6 months away from the park entirely. Eventually you go in and out to get on certain rides but you never really get bored of them either
And everything around it you can find better and cheaper in your local area anyway like restaurants
    >>
    >>2918747
I mean they add new rides/food/merch every year or every other year. You get discounts. You can meet new people etc. it just shouldn’t be the ONLY socializing you do.
    >>
    >>2918747
I was bored with CP after my third straight day there so I don’t agree with this. Five months later I still don’t miss it, even though it has my favorite coaster. On the other hand after my third day at Disneyland and DCA I felt I had only scratched the surface of it.

Also central Florida has an overall better thrill ride lineup than Ohio I’d argue, even though it’s way more expensive.
    >>

Speaking of Merlin, I was blown away by Legoland California yesterday. The galacticoaster is really cool, just wish it was longer. It's a shame that the new ride in Legoland Winsor is an off the shelf spinning coaster (which is already in paultons park). Minifigure Speedway was a cool racing shuttle coaster though.

On a Merlin related note, there's some people speculating that as the bonfire night show at Alton Towers is focusing on all the SW projects over the years, that they'll be announcing the new SW at the end of it. I doubt it though.

Firechaser Express and Big Bear Mountain are two of the best family coasters in the world, and it's awesome that they're both at one park. But I do wish their next addition would be a little bigger. Doesn't need to be like Velocicoaster or anything, but something a little more thrilling than what's in the Wildwood Grove section.

Also, Nightflight Expedition wasn't that great in my opinion. It's a very unique ride but I felt like none of the individual parts were that good.

Realistically how do you fix them? I can think of only two things.

    1. Sell. The problem with this is the park is like half IPs - DC and Looney Tunes - so I would expect a lower price than it’s really worth to lose all that equity. If you haven’t been lately, Gotham City looks fantastic. They really put their back into making it better than ever.

    2. Dump money into making it a quality park with good staff and no shootings. The problem here obviously is Six Flags is broke and it’ll take a lot of money to do this.

    And I suppose there’s also

    3. Just keep doing what they’re doing and hope people forget within a few years.

Great America in Illinois continues to do well because it has themed lands and a train ride, plus are heavily investing in a better "Camp Timber Trail" overhaul to the old "Camp Cartoon" family/kids area with a solid suspended family coaster to open next year.

I just wish they'd ditch the DC theme and restore Yankee Harbor.

Hagrids wasn't announced until the track was finished. Universal are really late with announcements most of the time, they just tend to be very leaky.

I think the Lost continent is a mystery because there have been so many concepts and ride tech hints over the years. We've had concept art leak for a Hybrid inverted water ride for Zelda, the Temple of Time show and a Pokemon adventure playground (this one seemed to be a Simpsons replacement with a mystery Pokemon ride).
    >>

IPs really never mattered with Six Flags anyway. It was always a superficial couple of cutouts by the front of the line, maybe something would be painted on the coaster itself, but not always. They never really gave much of a fuck about IPs, every single ride in the park can be given a generic name.
    >>
    >>2919390
Don't they have a justice league dark ride?
    >>
    >>2919390
I think the only reason it works for SF is because they got the rights to them before they became really valuable and competition emerged to use them. Today they wouldn't sniff getting the rights to build rides with Batman on them.

I do think they were going the right way with IPs initially, though. Before Time Warner sold the parks to Premier, they built the original BTRs and they looked really good when they opened.

Georgia used to have good theming but it’s long been disregarded except for Gotham City (and only there very recently). Great America is fortunate to have DC all in one area, including the Batman, Superman, Joker, and Dark Knight coasters and the Justice League shooter. Georgia has Gotham City (Batman and other stuff) at one end of the park and Superman and Justice League at the other, plus another DC kids area in the center, and only Gotham City is good of those. The USA area (last true remainder of the original “six flags” areas) is ruined by Goliath having fuck all to do with Americana and the wrong colors, and it hasn’t been maintained anyway. The western section has been reduced to almost nothing. And now there’s this really pathetic steampunk area for just one ride.

So putting in proper theming would take a fuckload of work. Six Flags is unlikely to do it (since they’d have to discard half the DC stuff), but it would be a blank slate for a buye.
    >>
    >>2919383
Sleazy carnival tents showcasing "artifacts" absolutely were a thing in county fairs. In Rakshasa's theme's case one of the "artifacts" just happened to be genuine.
    >>
    >>2919390
The point is a buyer won’t be able to easily purchase the park as is, at least at its real current value. The justice league ride the other poster pointed out has to be reworked (probably for a high cost) or scrapped for example. Also, SF isn’t always bad with IPs. The SFFT DC area and Georgia’s Gotham City are actually good.
    >>
    >>2919407
Is that even real? Not the fun fact but that SFGAm actually tried working that into the fair theming. I’ve ridden it several times and had no idea about that if it’s real. I always went in the fast lane though so not sure if I missed something.

A decade or so back they took out a lot of planters in Lickskillet that were both a place to sit and had mature pines in them that provided shade. Now the area's just a big asphalt lot because they figured if they didn't have to fool with the trees and planters it would save $X/year. Well it did but now they don't even get a crowd for the gunslinger show down there which used to draw enough people it would choke the midway.

I don’t remember the trees (although I suppose it does look sunnier there than I remember) but I do remember a ton of benches in front of the stage and all of them were full during the show. Last time I caught a show there it was just two guys and an audience of about five people and there was no stage. They seemed to be doing pretty well though.
    >Funny they decided to hop on the steampunk train about 10 years after it peaked
Apparently that got put there in 2019. If you haven’t been there you really cannot understand how low effort this area is. Either pic related I’ve already posted half of the theming. The rest is the ride itself and the entrance gate. That’s it. Makes me wondered why they even bothered. It’s obviously a ripoff of Magic Mountain’s area around twisted colossus and scream. That area is hardly a course in good theming, but it does feel completely, barely. It would have been better if Georgia had done nothing at all. It’s like something that would have appeared in krabbyland in spongebob.

What do you think the difference is? It’s not like they tolerate you lingering around at other busy haunted events either. They haven’t done it too much though. And it’s all outweighed by the quality of everything.

Maybe its an attempt to once again solve the issue soarin's ride system was created for while dealing with a different kind of space constraint. Original plans for soarin would've used something like the Brogent flying theater m-ride but the cost of building multiple floors was too much for late 90's disney so it got shelved until someone could come up with what we got today. It didnt help that shuttling people up and down floors and organizing it all wouldve been slow and annoying from a ride operations standpoint. They eventually DID do this with avatar but there was no way around it with level of motion simulation they wanted but disneys a richer company now and the techs a bit more advanced so organization is a bit easier. They got their money back by selling the massive amounts of LIDAR point cloud guest scans the pre show captures to various companies.

It’s confirmed. They need it after they killed X2 (RIP). Personally, I think it’s a horrible choice but I can understand the logic

Guess there was no point in flying to Georgia to ride it, still glad I did because I got a phenomenal rain ride and it probably won't haul as much ass after all the modifications

That’s a stretch. Those lift hills take forever and the gravity sections they lead to aren’t anything special as far as RMC goes.

I like it (rode it twice yesterday) it’s just way down the list of RMCs. That might be why Six Flags is bringing in AF1 - TC is insufficient on its own. They would never have put it in Cedar Point.

I have absolutely zero sympathy for the Kings Island and Cedar Fair fanboys crying about Magic Mountain getting ArieForce One. For the better part of a decade, these same fans were perfectly fine watching smaller parks get neglected and receive scraps while their favorite parks got all the attention. Whenever smaller park fans complained, they were told to suck it up or be grateful their parks were even open.

Kings Island fans in particular are some of the most spoiled fans in the industry. Imagine getting a giga coaster, new flat rides, a water park expansion, and a renovated kids area all within six years and somehow convincing yourself your park is being neglected because you didn’t get another coaster.

It’s hilarious watching the same people who spent years defending corporate favoritism suddenly cry foul when they’re on the receiving end of it.

Welcome to what smaller park fans have dealt with for years. The difference is, you guys are throwing a tantrum over not getting dessert after a five-course meal. Eat shit and fuck you.
    >>
    >>2919840
Cedar Point fanboys are worse imo. If they go 2 years without a major new coaster they're on the verge of suicide.

They only have five good coasters anyway. The regulars know this. They call them the “big 5”.

We still got Siren’s Curse. At least that wasn’t wasted at some Six Flags Irrelevant park like every Six Flags park in the chain is basically. The only reason those objectively garbage and trash regional parks are still even operating at the moment is because Cedar Point and Kings Island pay most of the bill and are keeping the company afloat. That’s not even hyperbole. Should have went to Kings Island at least. If you’re sending it to California put it at Knott’s, another one of the ATMs for the merged company. It will fit in the lot by the hotel. Makes no sense at a park that has two RMC Ibox coasters.

Hershey Park aside, Cedar Point’s middle 5 are better than most parks top 2-5. Raptor, Magnum XL200, Gatekeeper, Gemini, Valravn. Iron Dragon is one of the few Arrow suspended left and being tamer increases its longevity, kids love it. Rougarou is solid too and only gets shit for being at Cedar Point and because everybody is a fucking baby who can’t remember to tilt their head forward on the last corkscrew (applies to all B&M flourless and sit downs). And then there is the top 5. Honorable mention to the train with Boneville…. Not a coaster but one of the best train rides.
    >>
    >>2919949
I like Gemini because it's so retro. The wide turns where you can slap hands aren't really done on racing or dueling coasters anymore. Steel track on wood supports that in some cases sit atop steel girders. And like Magnum it's just a mine train scaled up. It'll be a shame if they ever remove it.

    >>2919960
I suspect it's because there's a dispatch window that has to be maintained where the newly loaded train can catch the other train on the lift; understaffing or shitty operations means it'll miss that window. People still luck to get dueling rides and post them on yt
    >>
    >>2919968
Magnum will probably be maintained and re-tracked indefinitely. It needs a little work IMO, the structure is vibrating more than it used to which terminates into your spine. Gemini’s been down almost as much as it’s been up the past few years and it’s a unique ride, would hate to see it go. Hope they figure out a way to keep it around in some form. Would be great if they spent a couple years investing in each and marketed them as if they were new additions. Vekoma could retrack Magnum and make it butter smooth but I fear this would alter the airtime hills

    >>2919958
Outlaw Run is great unless you’re a giant pussy complaining about a non-existent “pothole” at the bottom of the drop. It’s much better than the sterilized version of Lightning Rod. And all the small RMCs that aren’t Twisted Timbers

    > the replacements have inferior crown symmetry
    > the mulch rings are inconsistent
    > the drip emitters are visibly misaligned
    > the entire industry is in decline
Anyway, here’s the actual Florida parks announcement thread. Please keep discussion limited to hardscape degradation, horticultural maintenance, irrigation infrastructure, soil compaction, and the long-term survivability of mature specimen trees.
    > Did they announce when they’re replacing the 14 year old mulch under the Tomorrowland speedway queue
    > When are they finally fixing the irrigation overspray on the east side of the Imagination pavilion
    > SeaWorld Orlando’s new attraction for 2028 is apparently 600 linear feet of freshly installed decorative curb
    > Disco Yeti is irrelevant. Wake me up when Disney replaces the dead viburnums along the Animal Kingdom entrance loop
    > When is the EPCOT monorail beam getting its next pressure wash
    > Liberty Belle wheelhouse installed, but no news on whether the riverbank bald cypress knees are receiving their scheduled root zone remediation. Absolute joke.
    > Magic Kingdom ferryboat #4 under construction. Landscaping team still hasn’t confirmed whether the perimeter sabal palms are being fertilized with an 8-2-12 blend.

    > Hollywood Studios announces Villains Land. Meanwhile, the drainage swale behind the MuppetVision plot is still exhibiting suboptimal turf density. Priorities, people.
    > Spaceship Earth overhaul Soon(TM), but the Brazilian pepper removal program around the backstage perimeter is proceeding at a glacial pace
    > Journey Into Imagination refurbishment rumored to include new landscaping. Need confirmation on whether they’re retaining the existing podocarpus hedge or replacing it with dwarf yaupon holly. This is the only information that matters.
    > SeaWorld’s pipeline coaster can wait. I need a 4K walkthrough of the median landscaping on Central Florida Parkway so I can compare the October 2025 and October 2026 muhly grass clump diameters.
    > Universal demolishing Lost Continent but nobody’s documenting the exact square footage of compacted soil being exposed to the elements. We live in a society.
    > Front Tire Land 2028. More like FRONT TIRE PRESSURE AND TURF COMPACTION MANAGEMENT LAND.
    > Disney has spent billions on new attractions and somehow the mulch depth around the Polynesian walkway still looks inconsistent. 2.5 inches in some spots, 3 inches in others. OSHA needs to get involved.
    > When are they refurbishing the Animal Kingdom entrance water feature? The mineral deposits on the limestone coping have reached unacceptable levels. The calcium carbonate buildup is visibly affecting the perceived color temperature of the stone.
    > BREAKING: SeaWorld Orlando adds 17 new cabbage palms. Park attendance projected to increase by 0.003%.
    > Can we get an update on the exact cultivar of the annuals being installed in the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival beds? “Seasonal flowers” is not an acceptable answer. I need genus, species, cultivar, nursery supplier, planting density per square meter, and projected bloom duration under average March precipitation.

    > Also, the Magic Kingdom railroad closure is a perfect opportunity to inspect the ballast shoulder profile, tie spacing, and vegetation encroachment along the right-of-way. Instead we’re getting ride rumors. Pathetic.
    > Disney adults will spend 14 hours arguing about a missing animatronic but won’t notice that the southern live oak canopy near the Transportation and Ticket Center has developed a minor asymmetrical growth pattern.
    > SeaWorld’s landscaping department has a fascinating microclimate problem near Mako. Wind exposure, salt aerosol from the nearby water features, reflected heat from the concrete paths, and localized irrigation runoff are producing different growth rates across adjacent beds. This deserves a 90-page technical report.
    > Reminder that the bald cypress at the edge of Discovery River are not interchangeable with pond cypress. If you can’t distinguish Taxodium distichum from Taxodium ascendens by needle arrangement and crown morphology, you shouldn’t be allowed to discuss Animal Kingdom landscaping.
    > Anyway, did I miss any announcements about the replacement schedule for the concrete expansion joints along the World Showcase promenade? Some of them have visibly different sealant colors and I have been unable to enjoy a single attraction since noticing this in 2019.

I’ll never forget my first ever ride on Magnum. It was in the middle of the night and by the time it was over I had mayflies in my teeth and down the back of my throat. Extra protein! Lmao
    >>
    >>2919976
Mayflies or midges? People confuse them but mayflies are much larger and only swarm 1 day out of the year. They’re also called fishflies and Canadien soldiers. I’ve been to the park the day after a major swarm when the ground is full of their corpses and they line the building cascades and underneath canopies. Many are still alive around lights at night for a few days. Midges are the ones that swarm around lights for much of the spring and fall. I rode Steel Vengeance at night in June and my shirt was covered in them and my face got pelted by them. Mayflies would be even worse
    >>
    >>2919975
Premier re-tracked Loch Ness. I would prefer Vekoma do a re-track due to their Arrow history and recent flawless track record, but the park would probably go with S&S despite the Iron Curtain mess. They’ve been rumored to have greenlit an S&S project that’s been delayed by Covid, TT2, Siren’s Curse and now the merger financial situation. But the possible teasers (words with S&S in them) are still there by where Snake River Falls was

I'm SICK of newfags talking about crown symmetry like its the be all end all of themed landscaping and horticulture. It is a THEMED plant, it is not supposed to be a PERFECT plant. The plants outside of expedition everest for example SHOULD have an asymmetrical crown, exposed roots, etc etc but I see alot of comments (mostly on DisneyShubberyWorld forums not so much here) about how they are not looked after properly and it boils my piss
