Anyone here who has been to India? What would you recommend? I've booked a month-long stay at a yoga retreat in Pune. Haven't planned anything else. My wife and my dad are also coming. No kids. My dad is pretty active for his age.
>>2918212Pune is a traffic-ridden shithole with a few nice parks. I saw more whites there than anywhere else I visited in India. It feels pretty safe, though an uptick in street gang behavior including machete robberies has many locals worried. Be aware that scams are prevalent in Pune, and most friendliness is fake. Avoid paying for anything sight unseen if you can help it. You can get around the city on foot and with local buses, but it is stressful. Conductors come up to you after you board and ask the name of your stop, then tell you the fare amount. The metro OTOH is total cleanliness and serenity. Don't crumple the stupid QR code receipt in your sweaty pocket, you need it to exit.
>>2918212>I've booked a month-long stay at a yoga retreat in Pune. Haven't planned anything else. My wife and my dad are also coming. No kids. My dad is pretty active for his age. You'll be in the foreigner containment zone. It's not real India. It's Disney.
>>2918219>foreigner containment zoneNo such thing in Maharashtra.>>2918212Google says the retreat in picrel is located in Lonavala, not Pune. Lonavla (as it's pronounced) is a lovely tourist town with lots of trees and lakhs of chikki shops. It's pretty clean for India. No A/C is required in the cooler months. Prices can be a little high, but the quality should be top-notch as the town attracts wealthy weekenders from both major cities. You can walk the highway to town from your retreat, it is wide but unpleasant. Some of the rich kids drive like real assholes on the back roads, deliberately passing close by or shouting out their window. There is soooo much to explore in the area if you like trekking daytrips. Maratha forts are astonishing, and the locals adore any foreigner who shows their respect for the great Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who built an empire of mountaintop fortresses.
One note of caution to OP: religious people are some of the biggest scammers in India, and religious people are the easiest to scam. There is no need whatsoever to pull out your wallet for any local friends you make in Maharashtra. The Marathi people consider it highly degrading to beg for money from their guests; in all my time traveling the state, not one of the friends I made asked me for money, and they always refused when I offered compensation. However, there are always unscrupulous elements who will take advantage of a foreigner's ignorance of Marathi culture. Scammers frequently operate at temples. The Marathi people are friendly; feel free to talk to anyone who approaches you speaking English, but set boundaries. Speak plainly when necessary.>"Do you want payment for taking us on this outing?" >"How much do you want?">"No, I can't give you anything" when somebody does something without your consent and then asks for moneyIf you want to help hungry beggars - yes, there are whole communities of filthy beggar tribes living on the street in Lonavala - give them snacks not coins.
>>2918212You're not concerned your dad will get food poisoning and die? He most certainly will get food poisoning btw. That's not up for debate.>>2918240Disgusting behaviour.
>>2918277Drink bottled Bisleri water to be safe; don't trust filturd water dispensers. Food in Lonavala is good. You shouldn't get food pizzening.
>>2918277if you're a fat boomer retard who watches tiktok all day you'll get food poisoning. if you have any degree of street smarts you can easily avoid it. i stayed there 3 months and didnt get food poisoning.
>>2918212I would recommend not to. All the gross shit you see on the Internet and reels doesn’t put into perspective how bad it really is.Imagine 1.5 billion 67 IQ retards. 95% of people look at you like your God if you’re white and the other 5% look at you like they want to kill you.My friend got kidnapped by some Muslims. >>2918348Food poisoning and travelers' diarrhea (colloquially known as "Delhi Belly" when referring to India) are highly commonLuxury & Middle-Class Travelers: systematic data shows a pooled attack rate of approximately 37% to 39% of international tourists experiencing gastrointestinal illness, primarily due to more controlled dining environmentsBackpackers: Experience the highest rate of illness, with 62% contracting traveler's diarrhea during their stayWater:• Never drink tap water or use it to brush your teeth. Only consume bottled drinks with a fully intact factory seal, or water that has been boiled or properly filtered.• Skip the Ice: Avoid ice cubes in cocktails, sodas, and fountain drinks, as they are almost universally made from local tap water.• Avoid fresh green salads, raw vegetables, or pre-peeled fruits that may have been washed in water.Food• meat and poultry products are prone to rapid spoilage in India• Stick strictly to steaming, piping-hot foods. • if you want to sample local street stalls, choose vendors with high turnover and long lines of local residents. High turnover ensures the food hasn't been sitting out at ambient temperatures where bacteria multiply quickly. • Aggressive Hand Hygiene: Wash your hands with soap and water before every meal, or utilize a hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.Consult a doctor before your trip. Pack oral rehydration salts (ORS) packets, bismuth subsalicylate, and a standby prescription antibiotic (such as azithromycin)

>>2918629>never eat street foodComplete meme. The only difference between a street stall and a restaurant in India is that you don't get to see how disgustingly filthy the kitchen is. From personal experience, I ate street food for well over a month and had no problems whatsoever. What you should do however is avoid raw food, non-bottled water and anything that isn't freshly cooked. Meat is iffy too, I'd give it a pass, fuck knows how long they had it rotting away and all the spices will mask the taste. Typhoid vaxx recommended too, I know a guy who got hospitalized over it.>>2918344On the topic of Bisleri, India is so much of a shithole that counterfeit water is an actual concept. Most of it is sold under grey area lookalike "brands" like Bislari, Bislori, Bilseri, Bilesri and so on. Pay attention to the label.
>>2918664>counterfeit water is an actual thingCounterfeit packaged drinking water is a widespread public health and consumer fraud issue in India, particularly impacting travelers and transit passengers. Underground operations frequently refill discarded plastic bottles with untreated tap or borewell water, resealing them with forged caps, labels, and holograms to sell for high profit marginUsed 1-liter bottles and large 20-liter office dispenser jars are frequently collected from the trash, refilled with raw water, and resealed with illicitly manufactured stickers and caps.Spelling Modifications (Look-Alikes): Counterfeiters exploit the market dominance of trusted brands like Bisleri (by Bisleri International), Aquafina (by PepsiCo), and Kinley (by Coca-Cola). They use slightly altered names to trick hurried consumers, such as Bilseir, Bisferi, Bisllari, Beslare, Belsri, Brislei, or Blissli.Law enforcement regularly conducts raids on unlicensed plants. Major crackdowns in cities like Hyderabad and Uttar Pradesh have uncovered massive networks pumping out fake brands like "Bilseri" and "Clear Fresh" worth lakhs of rupeesStreet vendors, roadside dhabas, and small shops buy these fake bottles for a fraction of the price (₹10–₹20) and sell them at the standard retail rate (typically ₹20) to maximize their margins.Finding legitimate brands on long highway routes can be incredibly difficult, as local roadside shops regularly stock bootlegged water.
>>2918665Couple tips:Listen for a distinct cracking sound when twisting open the cap—if it turns smoothly without breaking a seal, THEN YOU DEFINITELY KNOW THAT ONE has been refilled from the trashcrush the neck and body before throwing it away. This prevents counterfeiters from recovering and refilling the intact plastic shell.
>>2918380>They demanded $5000. We got him back for $300.so it's not all bad then
>>2918666Crushing the bottle and then recapping it also assists in proper disposal by reducing bulk. I always did, but most Indians are too lazy to do so.>>2918665You're copypasting generic cautionary blogposts that belie your lack of experience traveling in this part of India. Substandard bottled water is not a problem in Lonavala like it is in northern India. The local brands are pure, but I preferred buying the 2 or even 5 liter Bisleri because I drank so much water. You can refill a small bottle from the big one. The spine of the Western Ghat marks the watershed boundary near Lonavala, so water throughout the region is bottled right from the natural source. >>2918380You've never been to Lonavala so pipe down with your cluelessness. The town is full of wealthy pale-faced elites who don't even glance in your direction. Neighborhoods on the fringes look like the frickin Hollywood Hills with ultra luxury villas climbing the hillsides.
Lonavala is a really nice rich place to go to. Apart from local eateries, you can find international fast food places like McDonald's, Pizza Hut, etc as well. Not sure about Lonavala but India also has quickly commerce where you place order for groceries and medicines through an app and they deliver it to you. You can count on the authenticity of water bought through these apps.I'd recommend going to Della Adventures as well in Lonavala. All in all you'll have a nice time in Lonavala. It can get super trafficy and crowded during the weekends tho. Shoot your questions if you have any.

I am serious. India should be depopulated by force. Indians cannot be allowed to become "humanity" just because of demographics. They need to be killed. They have to be killed. There must be nuclear war that wipes 99% of indians (and related subhumans like pakis/bangladeshi).

>>2919502This is a Travel & Tourism board. It's a blue board. There are good and bad places in every country, but suspiciously somehow, the bad things about other countries don't tend to devolve into outright racism, the way they do about India - even for countries in India's neighborhood that are legitimately terrible on all socio-economic metrics THAN India, such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Myanmar - as well as other countries around the globe like Sierra Leone, CAR, Comoros, etc.So this definitely reeks more like a targeted hate campaign than anything else. This wouldn't even feel suspicious and intentionally malicious if the hate was solely restricted to the toilet boards like /pol/ or /b/. The fact that this hatred is intentionally propagated on chill blue boards like /trv/ goes to show that this is a malicious agenda-driven campaign, by a dedicated group of people working in coordination.Including (you).>>2918215>>2918219>>2918237>>2918240

Get your popcorn, flame them, let them hate India. India has the largest population in the world, and the shill campaign ensures it will never end up like Thailand, Japan, Colombia, or Bali. 50 years from now India will be the same as it is now, the "hot" places that normies like will be unrecognizable and they are ruining it more and more every day. Let it be a litmus test, enjoy your hidden gem and laugh at the retards who unironically believe tiktok memes. And of course they will call this post and your post Indian.

I will mention James May had a whole Amazon series about traveling in India, and you could tell he had fatigue by the end of it even with Amazon's curation budget
>>2918728>Substandard bottled water is not a problem in Lonavala
>>2918728>The spine of the Western Ghat marks the watershed boundary near Lonavala, so water throughout the region is bottled right from the natural source. That statement is actually incorrect. While some premium mineral water brands do bottle water from specific springs or aquifers in the Western Ghats, the vast majority of commercial water in the region is drawn from local reservoirs, dams (like Bushi or Pawna), or municipal supplies, which undergo standard purification and filtration rather than being bottled directly from a raw natural source.
>>2919613>AI said it, so it must be true!Botpost. I'm speaking from actual travel experience of many weeks in that region. I buy water from a shop which maintains the hygiene of the (sealed) bottles. Free table water can come from anywhere and it always full of floaties. Sahyadri's Pulse is one of the best-tasting bottled waters I have ever drunk.
>>2919791You buy all your water in India from the same store that you have been assured by the shopkeeper us legit? Lmao
>>2919814No, I know what fucking factory packaged PET bottles look like, you utter clown. You don't inspect goods before you buy them because you're a Walshart shopper used to easy refunds. India does not give refunds, payment and sales are final. So you inspect your bottle to ensure that it is not worn or dirty or already broken open. And you inspect your food for anything that looks amiss. Everywhere you go you do this. With every single thing you eat or drink.
>>2919881Sounds horrible. I will pass if thats the nicest part of india
>>2919520>This is a Travel & Tourism board. It's a blue board. its also a numbers board, i.e. use numbers for gradations of measurement. Animals and niggers can't use numbers. Humans can. Stating that 'all countries have good and bad places' and leaving that as your final quantitative analysis is disingenuous to say the least. That u then rush to your pre-desired outcome 'only racists say some countries are worse than others' just ousts u as a fukup. Go live a pit of cobras and vipers, because some, not all, cobras and vipers will bite and kill u; and anyone who says otherwise is a snakist.
