In the newer editions there's an afterword in which he alludes to some sort of "controversy" where a lot of people hate him, but never ever says what it's all about. Basically he blew off everyone who needed help, left them to die, and crawled into his tent to cry. Meanwhile, Anatoli Boukriev went up and down the mountain three times to rescue almost everyone no matter which teams they were on -- the only people who died were Boukriev's team-lead employer, who was stranded all the way at the top, and a bunch of people on Krakauer's "team". Then Krakauer made up a bunch of shit smearing Boukriev and the leader of Boukriev's team to make himself look like less of a pathetic scumbag.
For me it's the 2008 K2 disaster.This shit is like a ready-made movie script. If you saw some of the things that actually happened in a theatre you'd call them cliche.
