Can anyone recommend a good Tiananmen Square 天安門一九八九年 massacre tour?
Okay, so the reason I made this thread’s edition for a Chinese indie band (Hiperson is from Chengdu) is because I am once again asking what the current music scene is like in China. Are some cities better for certain genres/scenes than others?I’m talking punk, metal, emo, indie, prog rock, hardcore, etc.
>>2911935Oh, and I forgot goth. Definitely want to know the best city for Chinese Goth girls.
>>2911935yeah but i wouldn't listen to anyones opinion unless they are actually in the city they are talking about. these generals are attended by internet info repeaters, not experience sharers. this isn't the place you'll find such info. i'd get rednote/小红书 and search for keywords and cities and ask in a comment on things you find. or ask there what chinese sites/social media profile to look at. at best here you will get obvious statement like the big cities have scenes and the cities with lots of students have scenes: chengdu, beijing, shanghai, wuhan etc. you need to get actual chinese to point you in the way.
>>2911932I'm South Asian and I found China to be incredibly unwelcoming. I studied there for about 6 years. As a student I had no right to work in the country, so I was quite poor. There is almost no path it permanent residence or citizenship for nonChinese too.Yes most Chinese think I am African or Italian. Once I tell them through a translator I am from India their demeanor towards me almost always changes. I've tried getting just regular massages, and they will always tell me they are full and have no time. How is that even possible? The only friends I made in Chinese were other Indians or the occasional white dude.Every time I would approach someone in a night club they would always just tell me they were busy, even if I wanted to just talk. Very unwelcoming and unfriendly. I'm thinking anyone who says something positive about China is a bot or Chinese themselves.
>>2912030Sorry jeetbro they just dont like your kind. If you're white or other NE Asian they are welcoming.
>>2912030You are not south asian you are a filthy indian, literally every culture in the world HATES you. Even the most liberal libtards in canadian subreddits are actively racist towards jeets.
>>2911961Yep. One additional note is that scene music tend to operate in circles. Once you know one, and have their info you can use this to see similar bands or you can try and identify popular venues that music is played. Livehouse are pretty popular so there definitely a market for it. Schoolpub in beijing is one such place with pretty good live rock music. It will never be super popular though because its a bitch to make a good sounding song with lyrics in chinese due to the tonal system.
>>2912080Hes a white incel loser from pol tryingto spread misery thats how they breed. He doesn't even have a passport
>>2912455Is this the new "he's paki" cope? Lmao everyone hates jeets. From the extreme far right, middle, and extreme far left.
>>2912494Who would pretend to be Indian and whine?
I want to do an epic motorcycle trip across Xinjiang. How much of a pain in the ass would the Chinese police be? Assume that my license and vehicle paperwork are all legal.
>>2911933I keep skipping to get to the song part and it's just her ranting over an acoustic guitar the whole time. Here's some real China music:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9x32PEhTBU

how difficult is it to get tickets for the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square on a Saturday / Sunday in late October?some people have reported that the foreign ticket office even didn't have any and online were sold minutes after the 7 day window openedthose were mostly during summer and not late October (aka shoulder season)the alternative is to spend more on a tour
>>2912670What in the flying fuck is shoulder season?
>>2912671>What in the flying fuck is shoulder season?the time between peak season and low seasonfor tourist numbersfor Beijingnational holidays and July/August would be peak / high seasonDecember to February has the least tourists, so low seasonin between is shoulder season
The CCP will send you a couple of freebies to lovebomb you and then get mad that you dont know 2000 years of cultural traditions around dating in china after only being there three days. After you settle in you will run into consistently the same usual behavior of women who only act interested initially and then when you pursue them further they will act like cold hearted bitches and be rude or just casually waste your time forever with lies and string you along
>>2912744That's modern women everywhere IME. Especially the pretty ones. Once they discover you're just a world wanderer, the jig is up. That's why you have to hurry up, overwhelm her attention and get the puss like you have a dozen other girls waiting. Chatting for days on end betrays your lack of options.
>>2912744>>2912750Stop inferring. Stop looking for patterns. Stop trying to "solve" people
>>2912750Im working here thats what I mean. I have a set work schedule and as soon as I am free and try to make something happen girls stop sounding interested and go silent. Attention seeking behavior is terribly high. "You must talk to so many women" is true because they aren't serious themselves
>>2912678What a retarded made up phrase.
>>2912918Not my first time hearing it but yeah I agree.

Every time I go out in public I am observing people - and their reactions to being observed. Don't like it? Tough shit. >>2912853How is your Chinese language skill?
>>2913011Its a limit for me. I can know what people are talking about if they talk slowly and aren't garbling in a southern accent but when I try to speak I always fuck up the tones if I try to speak a sentence

Got invited to go to HK tomorrow for the fireworks display. Should be fun
>>2913007>but you could try ask the locals and set what they’re thinkingI actually did ask locals about thatwell mostly Chinese students that I befriended in my Universitymaybe about half knew about it and generally had quite a nuanced option about the CCP, but overall positive (mostly something along "yeah bad things happened but the good outweigh them")the other half was clueless and had no interest in politics whatsoever
>>2913146People generally have trust and faith in the government because ccp official have to cut their teeth at the local level solving people's problems

Chengdu is kind of mid, not worth staying in for too long honestly. The viral spa thing was good though actually.Chongqing was pretty neato, but you only need 3 nights really at most. The long underground hotpot was worth it, tasted great. Xiaholi is super great too imo, nice cozy area not too busy. I do wish for one of the days I went out on a day trip.Overall you really just need AMAP for maps, WeChat if you wanna converse with your hotel/other people in China and of course AliPay (that has a bunch of miniapps on it like Didi). Everything else is optional.
>>2913157>Chengdu is kind of midtrue for Chengdu itself (other than seeing Pandas)but lots of cool day trips you can do from there>leshan>dujiangyan>mount qingcheng (front and back side)>emei shan>huanglongxi ancient townand a bunch moregenerally the region is probably one of the most interesting ones in Chinaand completely justified to be included in many trips
>>2913157>>2913161Chengdu seems better to live in than to visit
>>2913163>Chengdu seems better to live in than to visittruebut that's nothing disqualifying Chengdu, still worth it to visiteven for first time visitorsyou're central in Sichuan and there's a lot of interesting, very uniquely chinese stuff aroundalso there's a direct flight TFU <-> FRAas I live within reasonable distance to Frankfurt, that saves a lot of travel time when doing split flights
>>2913157I spent a week in Chongqing and it wasn't enough. If you're only walking around and eating hot pot, you're missing out on the best parts. The city is surrounded by nature and history.
>>2913161Yeah a day trip or two from there would have been better. >>2913165Fair enough anon. still I did quite like the city though anyway. I did more of course than stated, I enjoy photography so I had a great time there
Off to HK to bust a load and see fireworks
As an American I am not usually proud of my country but god damn shake shack mogs
>>2913312In Tokyo yesIn Istanbul not so much
>>2913165Hope you did a day trip to Dazu rock carvings otherwise I’d have gone to zhangjiajie
>>2913331I would call in a tomahawk but those are on back order. As usual the Turks just try and steal like they charge tourists 70usd for a ten minute shuffle

I’m doing HK, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Zhuhai, HK in the first half of December for the Zhuhai airshow. This is my first China trip, is there anything on my trip that I should definitely see?
>>2913808How long is your trip?
>>291380914 nightsHK-4Shenzhen-3Guangzhou-3Zhuhai-3HK-1
>>2913811Some days outside of those cities would be highly recommended since they're basically all the same thing. Visiting China without seeing some mountains and nature is missing out on the best thing the country offers. Plus Shenzhen has nothing.
>>2912030No one likes jeets, the Chinese aren't special in this
>>2913843if you have iphone it's really easy. if you have android you will run into many difficulties. it's easy to use for foreigners. most things you can do without a phone number and if you have a phone number you can do pretty much everything
>>2913846Androids very nice for the inscreen translation but yeah there will be some difficulties unless you have chinese phone number, verified accounts, and a mainland bank
I'm visiting HK for a week in early November. It's my second trip with the first being in 2018; I understand that it's changed since then and is losing its identity. I'm particularly interested in avoiding tourist trap areas and taking the train to a random stop north and wandering around, as well as visiting New Territories and Macau. Is Central or thereabouts still the best place to stay?I'm also a /p/ fag and like vintage lenses and would like to visit camera stores to see if I can find anything interesting of that nature, especially Chinese made lenses.
>>2913856Hk is a good place to buy camera lenses because the mainland is restrictive and taxed heavily but I doubt you'll find any good deals. I was able to pick up a olymphus 2 with I think an okay lens (looks like some smudging, wont know until I developed film) for less than $200 usd.
my advice for QR codes is that you should always use alipay/wechat to scan them. Your phone camera QR code just won't work. If you're eating at a restaurant and there is a QR code, use the alipay app and scan it with that.
As soon as I leave town literally every hoe I have fucked and all my dude friends want to hang out>>2913896Always use alipay due to the good built in translation function. Wechats translation is weak and annoying
>>2913938Common occurrence, women egressing from the woodwork simultaneously. I attribute it to there predilections towards other men spanning similar durations. Not to mention the possibility of their menstrual (ovulation) cycles aligning.Women are horny, and they will proposition your physical espousal if other men are unresponsive
What’s Yanji like? Are Korean Chinese people friendly?
>>2914354Also curious if I get around there by just speaking Korean.
>>291381114 days wasted on the most soulless cities in China. Try to cut some of it down and at least check out Guilin nearby.
I was prepared for people spitting in public but not for the fucking farts. Never in my life have I heard that many people ripping audible farts, and it didn't even seem to bother the people around them. Some even walked right behind the farters and continued tanking the farts like it's the most natural thing in the world.
>>2914354>>2914355I have a bad impression of them because the ones in korea tend to act like niggers and do scams. When I saw the travel vlogs from there from it looked really fake, like all the korean restaurants were han larpers that dont really speak korean. even though there's a minority of them who claim they "speak" korean at home, they are a very small minority and most of them are shitty at the language
>>2914369My visa’s good for 10 years, I have time brother
How hard is it to find places without a gorillion people in it in China? I’m looking to go next year but don’t want to be stuck around tons of people all the time. I figure any major tourist attraction is probably pretty crowded, but what about more out of the way places like Guizhou or Ningxia? Or going in the off season? Just want to be able to have some time to relax
>>2914609you have to know when the offseason is. guizhou in the summer gets swamped but if you go in the winter no one is there
On god, guanyu, and xiji; fujian food is the best in china
Are Chinese Visas like American ones? Afaik the chinese visa only allows for a single visit and you must do the entire process again if you want to enter in the future. At least American visas give you 10 years of validity. I come from a country that needs a Chinese visa.
>>2914659>Afaik the chinese visa only allows for a single visit and you must do the entire process again if you want to enter in the future. Why not just Google it yourself? China has many different visas. The ones I have for tourism are multi entry and multi year.
>>2914659my chinese visa as an american is 10 years multi entry 90 days each. costs like $140. i heard they only give out the 10 year at certain embassies though
Miss that Chongqing hotpot bros, got that half and half with the hot spot on one side and the refreshing tasting tomato on the other when it got too hot for me.Will be a contrast to visit north east China at the end of the year, going up to Beijing and Harbin.
>>2914689I will visit Harbin and probably Shenyang (I have heard its crazy there a bit) for Christmas vacation since my work here gives me two weeks Christmas vacation since we have so many foreign workers.
>>2914690Same time as me anon. I'll be stopping off for a day in Shenyang as well, just thought I may as well visit somewhere else that is different from the usual
>>2914697Though I need to plan my trip out. I have it December 21st until January 4th or something. Im not sure sculptures will be finished at that time..
I might have to leave china just so I can buy allergy pills because why the fuck are pills so expensive in china?
>>2914379part and parcel of experiencing other cultures
>>2911935Chengdu is known for folk rock.
>>2911935For eg Zhao Lei has a very famous song called "Chengdu" and it references a place called Little Bar in the city. Its a city known for being a little artsy and for music.
What made you want to visit China? Before going, what was on your mind? Was it worth it?Was there another place you visited that you preferred over China?
From the view videos I've watched of china, it seems to be either a dense modern concrete jungle, or a sketchy ass third world concrete mess. Am I correct? And why do they use so much concrete everywhere? I didn't see many wooden buildings or nature.
>>2915859I went because it's low risk, high upside. The cost of living is so cheap even if I didn't like it it would be a good place to chill. And mandarin has the most native speakers in the world so learning it is useful no matter where I goIt was worth itI preferred India, Japan, and Korea more than China. But China is solid. It's never a waste of time to go there because of the low cost of living and the utility of the language.
>>2916044Wood is rare in developed East Asian countries outside of temples because it rots in the high humidity. Plus China gets earthquakes in some areas, and wood structures collapse easily. Areas with neither of those problems are the desert regions, and deserts aren’t known for wood structures. Go to any city on earth outside of old European downtown cores and it’s all concrete. Even in those cute traditional little European cities, the moment you get outside of the touristy city center, it’s all concrete blocks. Whether you’re in France, Poland, Italy, or Switzerland.
>>2916126I guess that makes sense, but I feel like there's a serious lack of greenery and nature at least from what I'm use to. A lot of cities are just drab grey
Man the portion sizes here are huge and everything is so oilyI can see why so many chicks just seem to get FAT
>>2916143yes, its a wonder how they eat low quality meat (eg. those chinese sausages) and mystery chemical beverages yet still appear so healthy and fertile
>>2916134There is plenty of quality nature in China, it's a huge country, BUT within major cities they do a terrible job of integrating it even via bare minimum nice parks like American cities do. Only exception I've seen personally is Qingdao.
>>2916143The amount of oil in chinese food is abhorent. I really prefer Fujian food because rarely is anything soaking in a pool of oil.
The longer I spend in Shanghai the lower my opinion on China fallsHangzhou was pretty nice (near the lakes), air was okay, nature was gorgeousShanghai just seems like just an endless roll of malls with identical shops and overpriced food. Of the one I walked into most seem to barely get any foot-traffic despite there being like 8+floors of shops in each of these..Am I missing something about Shanghai?
I want to stay 8-9 days at a winter onsen/spa I have christmas breaking coming up and would like to stay at a nice onsen town / place with nature hiking and viewing local stuff whilst majority of the time being at the onesn
>>2917037I guess I'm asking for places or regions to visit that fit this MO in China
>>2917007It's more a place to live than a place to visit. In either case the only worthwhile part is the French Concession.
>>2917007I've been in China four times, each time for around three weeks and never stepped into Shanghai. There is absolutely nothing about that city that makes me want to visit. A random town in Sichuan holds more appeal to me.
Is 13 days too little or too much for Hong Kong + Guangzhou? I don't plan to venture too far from the city center of either.
>>2917521Way too much. You can do both in 4-5 days. If you have friends you can do a max of 5 days in HK if you do all the nature, beach day etc. Guangzhou is a 2-3 day max on weekend
Its so beautiful when people conduct themselves in a stoic defiant manner. They don't glance around at their surroundings lacking confidence, lacking a task to do, or having shame/guilt for what they are doing. They embody a respectful honor that can make you feel invisible in a profound way. I love that
>>2917727>You can do both in 4-5 daysPoverty mindset
>>2917942>They don't glance around at their surroundings lacking confidence, lacking a task to do, or having shame/guilt for what they are doing. You mean they're too stupid to have curiosities about their surroundings or want to take in the environment and have to stare blankly ahead like dumb cattle?

Visited last March for three weeks, saw quite a bit of the country, at least the Eastern half. Overall was a great trip. I especially liked the Summer Palace in Beijing. The view of the Forbidden city from Jingshan Park is also great, even if it is a bit hazy. I got my tourist visa last year. WeChat pay and AliPay worked great though were sometimes a bit slow. Also while on cellular data I had western internet even without a VPN, this kinda made using map applications a bit difficult since Apple/Google maps in China didn't like loading Chinese data on the western internet. Thankfully I didn't have too much trouble with that. Also using the WeChat mini apps for stuff like DiDi worked really well. If you are planning a visit, especially to Beijing or any major tourist attraction be sure to use the attractions mini-app to register in advance. I missed out on being able to go to the National Museum because I canceled my registration to change it but didn't realize you can't re-register for 7 days.Wuhan and Changsha were cool but the air quality is definitely worse in those inland cities. Anshan was better but also not as clear as Shanghai or Shenzhen. Shanghai feels the most like a Western city like NYC, but without all the homeless and crazy drug zombies NYC has. The Nanjing memorial museum I thought was really well done, comparable to the memorial museums in Hiroshima and NYC (9/11). Hangzhou West Lake was also a nice day trip and Nanning was also a nice city.Shenzhen was my favorite city to "live" in though I probably wouldn't be able to tolerate the heat and humidity in the summer.I flew in and out of Hong Kong, which was nice, though I wish I had spent more time there. I also saw Macau while I was in the area which was better than I expected, though i did not gamble at all. My visa is still good for 9 years yet so if I visit again I would like to see Guangzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi'an, and everyone I talked to has hyped up Yunnan.

Hunan: Changsha is worth it for a weekend. Even dead of winter with snow tons of people out drinking. Very few chains designed for foreigners and the orangutan bunker was the first racist bouncer turning down money. Food is too spicy and mao statue and maybe mummy is the only reason for a weekend. Wulingyuan/ZJJ definitely worth a 3 day trip at least as well. You could maybe do 4 days there. Fenghuang: Meh if youre single. Its a dress the gf up and walk around old city. Maybe a couple of good photos. Lots of interesting food though. Maybe one day max, I didnt find all that much. It was nice ai guess relaxing on balcony by the water smoking and drinking

I went to China in November last year with my wife to visit my in laws.I visited Beijing after spending 10 days in Japan and as soon as I got to the hotel I order about 3kgs of random fruit. Fruit in Japan is rare and expensive.Went to the Earth temple and it's a nice, quiet park with one coffee shop in the middle. The guy in the coffee studied in Australia and knew I was Australian immediately and missed actual coffee. The military museum (The great shed of procured goods) pretty cool place to go to if you are a model maker. Planes are in the grand hall area, tanks and some rare artillery guns are in the basement, small arms are on the upper floors. one of interesting things was the Korean war section tucked away at the top which tells it from their perspective, they agreed it was a just cause but it was horrible for everyone involved and let it never happen again. Some funny interactions was female security guards patty me down and being shocked at how thick and solid my ass was.In the subway one guard as me to take a snip of my water bottle to make sure it wasn't acid or poison, my mandarin fucked up and didn't understand what he said so I chugged 500mls in about 3-5 seconds. Poor guy gave me a thumbs up and smiled and let me through, thinking I could probably do that same with beer. After Beijing my bother in law picked us up and I didn't realise we were doing 180-200kph on the highway to get her home town.Getting to her home town, the day after I got there her family put me to work.first was going to a goose farm to get dinner. They thought I was a city kid and could catch and kill one, well joke was on them I got one and snapped it's neck and they look at me, realised I was not a city boy and they had to pluck and gut it.After that my sister in law' husband asked to help dig a trench and gave me a back hole. After digging a trench and dinner we went hunting because they have a wild dog problem and gave me a "pneumatic harpoon". We got 3Part 1/2
>>2919831>Fruit in Japan is rareLmao what a dumb thing to say
Part 2/2The next day, my wonderful mother in law asked me to come to a factory. She got me to do some welding and use a heavy duty forklift to load a truck for a delivery. She did pay me in a hearty home cooked meal. After getting back I went to the farm to give my father in law a hand fixing his "exile house when he does something stupid" and tending to some crops. That night got to do some dumb country stuff with a power drill and steel wool and had a small accident.Nothing much happened after that.Getting back to Beijing was annoying because the police check, but fine keeps the rif raf out. Beijing airport I got pull aside because they had no idea what a 3ds was and had to get one the younger guys to explain it just plays games and is not some homemade mirco laptop.
>>2919832They had fruit but it didn't feel or tasted like fruit.I did have some giant Aomori apples and they were nice. When I got to Hokkaido not much fruit, but lots of ice cream and meat.
Anyone going to be in LKF? Im about to hop the border and head that way
>>2913129yes but not for the BS fireworks. Just that some hot women will go out, watch the fireworks and the excitement will warmup their vags a bit, so coomers like u will have to do less legwork to coom in them.
>>2914689anyone who uses food as a pretext for travel on an anonymous board should be tied to a stake and burnt alive.Admit to yourself and all others here, who are all coomers every bit as degenerate as u, that u are going to HK to empty your sac.
>>2919831>>2919003 here, again>The great shed of procured goodslol for sure, though the propaganda section really stood out to me too. >one of interesting things was the Korean war section tucked away at the top which tells it from their perspectiveYeah I also found this pretty neat (pic related), definitely one of the highlights of that place for me, or parts I found more interesting. >>2919837>Getting back to Beijing was annoying because the police check, but fine keeps the rif raf out. Beijing was the only place I really noticed the heightened security, or at least that it felt like they were more strict about it. In other cities it felt a lot more relaxed.I saw the subway mini-TSA checkpoint officer that was supposed to be watching the X-ray machine quite literally asleep one time in another city.
