Ever been impressed with how disappointing something is in real life? And I don't mean the obvious tourist traps like Plymouth Rock where it's pretty clear there's nothing to see. I mean ones that can look cool in a decent picture.

I'd seen the Supertrees hyped up online for years. People saying only Singapore could do this and the whole world is behind back when these things were first presented. Though they must be pretty impressive.

Turns out it just feels like a cheap amusement park attraction within a fairly mid park. It's tacky pink and neon green plastic piping with vines that only go up partway.

These trees in Singapore are a lot more interesting and magical at night time.

In the day time they are meh.

Best part about Singapore is the hot Korean k-pop star looking girls for 100$ in Geylang.
I also enjoyed some of the street food.

Literally nowhere is capable of living up to hype because it has to exist in real life. A curated tourist picture or video online is only a simulacrum of the actual place.

The closest to living up to expectations a place can be is if it's supposed to be really big and it is, in fact, really big. A landmark being really large as its selling poing is as close to a 1:1 relationship between fantasy and reality it can get.

The mona lisa at the Louvre. It's a very small painting, you can't even get close to it, and you will barely even see it due to swarms of Asians photographing it. There were plenty of much more impressive works there that had no one around them, imo.

Super trees were meh. It was fun to walk on the walkway at night tho. Cool view.

The two dome gardens one kind of sucked but the one with the waterfall was coo. My favorite part of gardens by the bay was walking along the less visited outdoor areas during rain I had it all to myself.
    >>
I feel like I've been pretty lucky in not being disappointed by anything I've chosen to visit. The closest is probably Hokokuji Temple in Kamakura. It was smaller and less dense than I expected. Still wasn't terrible, and thankfully everything else in the area was a step up, so the day still ended up great.

If we're counting cities in general, not just sights or activities, I was disappointed by Athens. The Acropolis is really cool, but the city itself is a giant, ugly mess of dull apartment buildings and graffiti. I loved everywhere else I went in Greece, but I have no real desire to go back to Athens.

every day there is a flood of people across the bridge from johor bahru in malaysia. the cost of living in malaysia is a fraction of singapore so it is common for low paid and unskilled workers to do the daily commute

Singapore is good to visit for a few days max.

To live there, expats who aren't living like peasants usually deal with the following:

    - Make 200-350k USD per year at a decent corporate job in exchange for virtually no freedom

    - Pull 70 hour weeks on the regular, eating shitty take out food everyday and finishing work at 10-11pm

    - Have zero job security, see your colleagues get fired over the slightest shit and being forced to move back home because the job market is brutal enough as it is for the locals

    - Pay lower taxes but everything you make goes to ridiculous over-the-top rents and entertainment to convince yourself you aren't living a lie

    - Grind like that for 5-10 years until you get a VP/Partner role where you can somewhat sit back and delegate the work to the rats below you

    - Most will not reach that level so you'd have wasted 5-10 years of your life absolutely wrecking yourself for nothing

Don't get fooled by the towers and night life, even Dubai is better by comparison in terms of quality of life.

Paris is great if you have money to spend, and a total dump if you're broke, it really depends on the person and their perspective.

Rome is good too but once you get past the tourist areas, there's very little bringing you back. But the historical importance of the place makes it worth it.

No place is perfect, but literally anywhere in europe mogs Singapore in terms of quality of life. The higher earning potential doesn't count considering the retarded cost of living unless you open a company and the government throws millions in subsidies at you to hire locals and set up a permanent base (That's the only profitable route for foreigners to make it big in Singapore).
    >>
    >>2915909
    >anywhere in europe mogs Singapore in terms of quality of life.

    >>
    >>2915917

If you got money you won't have to worry about any of that since you won't be living in the concerned areas.

expats don't live like peasants. you are confusing expats and cheap migrant labour
    >- Have zero job security, see your colleagues get fired over the slightest shit and being forced to move back home because the job market is brutal enough as it is for the locals
not many jobs have true job security these days. but expats probably have more than most. the majority of expats are people working for international companies who have been posted to their host country by their companies to do a task.
example, i was recently talking to a guy who had been sent to taipei by his company. british guy working for an american company. a lot of their customers were taiwanese electronics companies so he was there running the taiwan business. the company had planned for him to be there for at least 3-5 years so they paid for his accommodation and for his family to go out there and for his kids to go to an international school, all that sort of thing. all that costs money and the company aren't likely to pull the rug on him unless something drastic happens
sure if you are thinking of peasant level jobs like esl teacher or whatever they are ten a penny
most of the rest of your little rant isn't really what happens in the real world but even if it was, it could happen anywhere
    >even Dubai is better by comparison in terms of quality of life.

That's what I was thinking too but
    >The original lighting system for Singapore's iconic Supertrees was built and completed in 2012

Have they updated it since then?
    >no, the physical hardware of the lights has not been changed to a new technology, The Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay were originally engineered with highly advanced, energy-efficient LED systems and sustainable solar panels integrated into their canopies. Instead of a physical equipment upgrade, the management keeps the presentation cutting-edge through software, projection, and artistic updates

The only thing to consider is this, so watch videos focused on this:
    >The New "Borealis" Laser Installation
If you are looking for the absolute latest, most modern visual update to the Grove, it is the introduction of a second, highly advanced light installation called Borealis. This is separate from the standard multi-colored flashing tree lights. It uses high-tech laser projectors and particle mist to create an incredibly realistic, moving Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) effect right over the Supertree canopies. It runs on select nights (typically Saturday, Sunday, and Monday around 8:00 PM) and completely changes the futuristic aesthetic of the grove using modern laser-sculpting technology
