These things are really handy, lightweight and durable for real travellers . Ive been using them 5 years straight almost 2000 days and they are just starting to wear out. One for clothes, one for toiletries and one for vitamins and medicine .

No I just have my old phone be my second phone, both esim so if I lose or break one I just reswap my number over.

Primary phone is an iphone 16 max, got it for a good deal like 400 new just open box. Worth it for Asia as the countries I go to all have NFC compatible virtual passes.
Secondary phone A36, again got it for like 129 or something through google fi fits the bill has my banking apps/2fa things on it.

Never traveling without 2 phones again, had one experience where I broke a phone while abroad. Made my life a living hell till I was able to get back into the USA and properly verify things. Also NFC/ESIM is invaluable in current year.

I grew up in NA and never understood what the point of ice buckets were. I mean I wouldn't mix it with my drink... So what do you need an ice bucket for if you have a mini fridge?

Anyway the answer to your question is: Europeans don't grow up drinking ice-filled drinks and space is limited, so the demand for ice is quite low.

    >duffel bag
    >too large for carry on
    >no wheels to roll around with
    >so it has to be your ONLY luggage for travel (unless you have a small pack with you as your carry on)

can anyone convince me as to why a duffel bag is useful for travel? i'm open to considering it since they're the most space efficient by far besides a regular roller thing
    >>
    >>2905159
Lmao yuropoors think ice machines cost money.

Their heads will explode when they find out America has free bathrooms and unlimited free condiment packets at fast food restaurants
    >>
    >>2905229
Duffle bags provide essentially no advantage over a decent, well designed backpack.

It's true that they are slightly more space-efficient in principle, not having to provide a harness system, but the massive decrease in carrying comfort greatly outweighs this tiny gain.

    >the most space efficient by far besides a regular roller thing
Suitcases are actually the least efficient form of baggage because, according to most airlines, wheels, handles etc. COUNT towards dimensions. Hardshell suitcases are also going to be heavier of course. I'm not saying suitcases are useless: they are the way to go for checked baggage. They just suck in terms of efficiency, making them a poor choice for a carry-on.

For some reason, some people think that duffle bags look "cooler" and "less touristy", but that is of no concern to me personally as I value function over form.

If you travel by car, etc. and barely have to walk, I guess duffle bags aren't too bad (even then, backpacks will also work just fine). In any other situation, they are a poor choice.

I'm going to Rome soon. Will be doing blatant normalfag tourist things at peak times and taking packed public transport. Mildly concerned about pickpockets. Hotel looks like a bit of a shithole so I'm not gonna trust their safe either.

In the past I've worn a lanyard/neck pouch thing for my passport and other essentials, which felt secure but also got very uncomfortable after a while. Thinking about a sling/crossbody style bag like picrel, and/or a money belt. Any recommendations?
    >>
    >>2906775
    >Any recommendations?

Don't go to places like that
    >>
    >>2906775 (Me)
Update, I bought a generic chinese bag on amazon. Not the one in that pic but similar.
Worked well, was comfortable and felt safe. Would have been very hard to pickpocket.
Hotel was less of a shithole than I thought but I kept my passport on me anyway.

    >>2906802
You're not wrong but it was a fun trip. Going to less travelled places is good too, but there's nothing wrong with just being a dumbass tourist doing tourist things sometimes.
    >>
This kind of messenger/shoulder bag is so useful
Not as bulky as a backpack, doesn't make my back sweaty, but can still fit my water bottle, camera, and other random shit I pick up
    >>
    >>2908898
I'm not a woman or faggot, so there's no way I'd be caught wearing any kind of purse in public.
    >>2908893
Just put phone wallet xtracash and passport in front pants pockets, what's so hard about that? Goddamn consoomers and their accessories.
    >>2905922
Walmart duffels are overpriced, difficult to close when full due to their rectangular shape, and they hang too low, making them awful for walking. The $5 Indian duffel I bought has a rounded top which makes it easy to stuff full and zip up. I shortened the shoulder strap so it hangs on my hip instead of my thigh, nicely counterbalancing my backpack without impeding my ability to walk at a brisk pace. On crowded transport it doesn't hog up space. I've stood against a bus or metro wall with my duffel between my legs and my backpack on top many times.
    >>
    >>2908898
That's a purse. Yurotrash "males" carry them around, decorated with costume jewelry, a beanie baby hanging off like a Korean schoolgirl.
    >>
    >>2908898
Unfortunately I've seen too many tech trannies wearing these nowadays, so I think I'll stick with the backpack.
    >>
    >>2908898
These bags are okay as long as you're carrying light. My friend used one of these as a regular bookbag back in high school and he fucked up his shoulder.

    >pockets
Not a great option for your passport considering how fragile they are, and how fussy immigration can be about damage, and how much of a pain in the ass they are to replace.
    >too likely to cause wear and tear unless you're willing to put it in a bulky cover (especially if you have other items in the same pocket)
    >too likely to forget it's there and end up washing your passport
    >too hard to guard against pickpockets
Better off with a front sling bag, lanyard, fanny pack, or hidden money belt. Hell I'd rather leave it at the hotel than put it in my pocket, and I never trust hotels.

    >>2909124
You just made up a bunch of imaginary problems. I've carried mine almost 2000 days straight in my pocket with no issues

For longer trips I use a Rothco Canvas bag ($45) which is just a black seabag for anyone who was also in the military. It's durable and a piece of shit and has a 89.6L carrying capacity which is why I use it. Only as a checked bag of course. I can put whatever in there granted I have it stored properly (packing cubes, bags, etc.) and be fine. Only thing is it can be a bitch to carry but for how versatile it is I don't mind.

For my carryon I am currently using a Dejuno schoolbag I got for very cheap ($13 in Okinawa). It has seen me through several months of travelling throughout SEA. Granted it has some holes and is probably due for a replacement but for the value, it has been great.

As far as packing cubes I have been using the iFly 3 pack I got from Walmart for like $20 last year. They're fine but the size one burst and I will have to replace it. They're good quality but I just overloaded it so it's my fault. I recently purchased a BAGAIL 6 set for packing cubes as I'm planning to move abroad again so I'll see how that goes. I also have 3 small packing cubes for toiletries and such I purchased from Walmart but they're unbranded. Got them for around $10. All in all these were very good purchases that totaled me only $88 total. Some of you guys really over complicate your setups.

Passports are designed to handle a decade of travel and have a built in cover that protects it from sweat and moisture (but not submersion). You seriously think a pickpocket has a chance in hell at digging deep into a front pants pocket and pulling a large bulky item out? I often carry my wallet and passport together in the same pocket when it is too crowded to safely leave my wallet in my back pocket. You can carry your phone with your passport too, just have to make sure you don't push your phone down into the middle of the passport and crumple the pages. Push the passport away from your leg before dropping your phone inside the pocket.
    >forgetting your passport anytime, anywhere
Don't do this. It's unfathomably stupid and will ruin the rest of your trip. Always do a full patdown before removing your pants at bedtime or shower time. I always empty my pockets into a tote bag at night so in case of emergency evacuation I can grab it and run. Plus you can hang it up on a hook if there is no shelf in the hostel shower (there never is desu).
    >>2908920
Carrying a purse around because your jeans are too skinny and feminine to have usable front pockets is super gay. Only excusable if you are a vendor who needs convenient access to a big stack of bills in order to make change.
    >>
    >>2912764
my passport got moldy af before. i keep it in a ziploc bag. also you look like a faggit running around naked in your tote
    >>
    >>2912764
    >Passports are designed to handle a decade of travel
You should hold a training seminar for passport departments, since my country's passports can't even handle a pre-2026 European summer.

Cool and damp climates with no A/C or dehumidifier (lol poorfag) may make that necessary; keeping wet clothes from getting nasty is also a challenge in such a climate.
    >>2912854
If you kept it flat in your pocket, it would conform to the curve of your leg. Also, don't run around in pouring rain like a fool Only thing that has happened to mine is faded cover lettering and a few fraying strings around the edge.

Shit says it’s 20 pounds what’s the point if the only thing you’re gonna put in it is a sock. And if checking it that’s like walking 80% of the distance anyways.

do people try and carry as light as they can? how do they go? I'm half tempted to grab a small carry on bag and some vacuum travel bags to maximise space?
    >>
    >>2917435
nah just do a carryon and personal item. it's like 9kg +6kg or so
    >>
Do airlines even check the weight of those?
    >>
    >>2917597
they check your carryon but dont really check your personal item sometimes. as long as its small
    >>
    >>2917435
A light bag is a super power, get some quick dry clothes and you can just carry 2 sets, wear them a few days and wash in the sink they dry overnight
    >>
    >>2917597
It depends on the airline and airport and is completely random. I've almost never seen it done. Budget airlines do it a lot more than legacy airlines.
