So I have this idea to use legos in my projects.

For example I have some ideas for a raspberry pi zero that involve a microphone or camera.

I looked how much I will need to pay for them on https://www.lego.com/pick-and-build/pick-a-brick?query=2x4

And it is very cheep(I suppose there is a minimum order or a shipping fee this is not a problem). I want to order them because I am not going to look at rainbow vomit all the time if I go and get them from good will (I buy black only).

So I want to make a raspberry pi based microphone to listen to people or a camera to listen and watch.

My main problem was that if I want to place this in some enclosure I will need to spend $$$$ to keep them in place and after it is finished there is no way to change things inside and I need to spend more money.

    So why not use legos?

I am not a lego fagot so I have no taboo about using knives and glue on legos.
The basic idea is this. Lets say I want to hide a microphone inside my PC. I did think to use one of the old HDD enclosures I have however getting the microphone and PI in place can be a pain, And most methods result in it either moving around(very bad) or expensive bolted forever in place.

So here is the idea buy some lego plates
    https://www.lego.com/pick-and-build/pick-a-brick?query=plate&selectedElement=303326
and use some plastic to plastic or plastic to metal(more on this later) glue to glue this in place forever.

This is the base that should stick in place forever in the dummy HDD enclosure or whatever.
On top of this I can use normal legos to build whatever structure I want. for example I can use my PC microphone and cut away the useless parts and then glue this to a small lego to be able to place it in different places. The PI goes into its plastic enclosure however I perma glue a lego plat to that plastic. This way I can swap or change it whenever I need or replace it with a different PI in the future etc.

Same for the microphone I can try different arrangements or parts. lego fagots will lose their mind that I am permanently damaging legos however 1 base plat and 1 lego to make whatever plastic I like mountable is literally nothing for my wallet.

I did see that lego also sells these plates that do a 90 turn
    https://www.lego.com/pick-and-build/pick-a-brick?query=plate&page=5&selectedElement=6491823
and this can be interesting to get the camera in the right position I can simply build a lego tower to the right position and them install this plate to attach the camera (who already has a lego perm glued to it so it an be mounted) What I need is for this thing to be stable and not to collapse or start making noises. I am not going for special snowflake legos I use generic 4 types so I can assemble and disassemble and try different configurations.

I was wondering if Technic peaces are any good? Is there anything good for using them and these lego cylinders to mount a camera to a lego wall? Or is that a bad idea?

    I was thinking I go
Normal 1x4 (or whatever) for walls
Normal 2x4 for building upwards towers. I did hear they are the most structurally sound.

    Plate 1x2
    Plate 1x6

    Plate 2x4
    Plate 2x6

I was thinking to glue to the electronics either a normal 2x2 or a 1x2 plate What is better?

And these 90 turn plates maybe a 1x2?

Also what is better idea to buy a fully made big plate
    https://www.lego.com/pick-and-build/pick-a-brick?query=plate&selectedElement=303326
Or to make it myself for the base by using overlapping layers or 2x6 plates or something?

I do not want the base plate to rip from the base of the enclosure when I try to remove a lego tower and force me to glue that in once more.

Is a zig-zag of plates glued together a better option OR do I only glue 1 layer to the bottom and the zig-zag layer is a sacrificial layer since if it detaches itself it is not that bad as the connection to the bottom being destroyed?

    Any suggestions?

I was thinking about using lego attachments on the metal of the PC case.

Should I glue plates or normal ones for the electronics? What is better for stability?

Also do they sell dummy PCIe cards? I can use that to build on top of it(it getting hot can be a problem) Worse case scenario I get these old TV signal to PCI cards and build on top of that.

Anyone has any experience with this?

We don't have one at the moment, but there's an entire /pbbg/ gen that is third party plastic bricks. You would learn that there are a lot of companies and stores selling connecting painted or colored plastic interlocking 'brick compatible' stuff that you can order online, even from Wally's and Crapazom. PICREL is off Walmart and was 1600 mixed color pieces for under $25. Discount and clearance stores carry Lego and stores like $5Below and Dollar General carry small cheap KO brick sets

Not interested. I tried some of these micro not legos and they where crap did not stick together etc. I want something that will stick together and hold good.

    >Rainbow vomit.
Sorry that offends me. I want only black ones.

I told you the price is not a problem.
lego says that if I buy 10 2x4 I pay $2 for them if I want 100 of 2x4 I pay $22 and most of them are reusable for all kinds of projects.

Why is this idea so strange for you?
I how exactly am I supposed to mount a microphone so it holds inside the case?

    >3D print one
Cool however I pay more then $20 for that and it is literally 1 use. if I messed up or want a different place to try I print a whole new one.

    >Professional metal mounts
    Cost more then $20
    >>
    >>11923121
You can probably get them cheaper on bricklink.

    >Why is this idea so strange for you?
NTA but you’re clearly trying to spy on someone or something and the insistence on using Lego gives us all the ick.
Didn’t this thread already get pruned on /g/?
    >>
    >>11922919
Are u trying to spy on your mom in the shower or something? What are you trying to secretly record?

    >NTA but you’re clearly trying to spy on someone or something
    YES!

    Want the backstorry?
I hate my landlord I really hate that guy, the fuck decided to walk into my room when I did go on vacation despite me telling him not to do that.
The peace of shit also admitted this to my face.

To give you any idea the retard did place a rat in my room and told me it is my fault and I need to pay up because
    >Herp-derp rat
I told him this is not difficult to figure out since before I did go on vacation there was no rat I come back and there is a rat.

    This is my life!

Either way the fagot placed cameras all over the house and I told him to take the one off that is next to my door because it literally flashes and blinds me with some 1 billion gigawat LED or some shit.

He refuses. There are cameras all over the house. I truly despise the fagot

So I decided to place a camera to see if the fuck walks into my room or what he is doing there

My idea is to take some dummy thing maybe a Halloween pumpkin and place the camera inside of it (replace one eye with a camera?) or like I was saying inside the PC.

I want also to listen what the fuck is doing and talking about when I am not at home. I suspect he was thrown out of work and this can have consequences for my living situation.

I suspect there are conversations with his wife when I am not at home. And I do not want him to fuck me over. I was also tihnking aobut hiding a mini microphone in the living room so I have full coverage

    >to spy on someone
This is spy VS spy levels of fuckery at this point. I suspect he did hive a camera in new light bulb that is in my room. I did heare him drill in the other room I am checking if he did not drill over a camera to my room

    >Lego gives us all the ick.
Why? I can look at some putty or something to place the camera inside the enclosure (Halloween pumpkin, PC ) and do it this way however this will bind the camera and the rest PI forever in 1 place

    >gives us all the ick.
    Why?

    >landlord
    Your dad?
    >>
    >>11924304
    >why
Because, you’re building it as a toy which implies spying on children and a raspberry pi case is like $10-15.
    >my landlord put cameras in my apt
I don’t buy it. I say you’re a sicko. Regardless, you shouldn’t be allowed around kids or in a toy section.

    >>11928707
No a landlord I hope to move out next year.
    >>11928715
??? What does all of this have to do with anything?
    >a raspberry pi case is like $10-15
?????? Ok and? I already have one!

    >don’t buy it.
Why not? I have seen others use Legos to build boxes for latex casting it is versatile building material.

    So the questions remain
    >How good are Legos at holding structures or these light weight computer parts?
    >What is the best glue to connect Lego to Lego. Other computer plastic to Lego and Lego to computer metal?
    >Are multiple plates stronger then one single one if glued to a computer metal case?

Just go down to your local emporium the proprietor will sort you out with all the legos you wish.
