    Fuck off spammer

    that fig looks like shit
    >>
    >>11922452
Let me guess without watching the video, he uses the existence of this thing that can barely pose and with any paint to shit all over the Haslab sentinel? And I’m sure he mentions the nothingburger knee issue several times.
    >>
    >>11922452
    Which side are you on?
Michael on the side of toys should provide more plastic for less or Anthony on the side of toys need to be high quality adult collectibles to be worthwhile even it it means it has to be expensive?
    https://youtu.be/EBu-BKDndyE
    >>
    >>11922452
Haven’t seen the video, but did he use this as an example to say everyone is lying about toy prices? I know he doesn’t even collect Transformers.
    >>
    >>11922473
You say that as if he's wrong to do so.
    >>11922482
Team Michael all the way. If you want an adult collectible then buy a statue.

    Clean it up jannies.
    >>
    >>11922452
What? He's 100% right. Toy companies, especially Hasbro are taking us all for a ride because they know dumbasses will pay. They all keep jacking up the prices and then paying their CEOs and upper management inflated salaries and bonuses.
    >>
    >>11922572
    Indeed.
    >>
The video is saying because they made a $35 big figure with limited articulation (he has never seen Big Figs before so this Optimus is shocking to him, he keeps talking about it being shocking it's at retail when Big Figs have always been at retail) and thinks the Sentinel Marvel Legend should have been released at retail for half the price or something because of it. He also keeps bringing up the current world situation because he thinks this was planned priced and produced a few months ago so he still doesn't know how long toys take to be made. He also says "kids will see this and see a cool robot!!" but then says "because it has a 40th anniversary logo on it's marketed towards adults! If they weren't aiming for adults they wouldn't put that on it" as if toy companies have something to prove and it isn't the 40th anniversary, it's a strange thing to bring up like it's an actual point. Because just like how kids would, adults would also still buy it if it didn't have the 40th anniversary logo on it.

Hasbro are over charging though, but now you don't have to watch the video
    >>
    >>11922452
isnt that optimus just the equivalent to one of these? calling them figures is kinda generous id say and theyve always been priced as such (like 30 msrp). the walmart by me was basically handing the darth vader ones at one point
    >>
    >>11922652
It has like a few more points of articulation but that's why it is $35 and not $30
    >>
    >>11922652
I think I even remember some videos where Michael offhandedly mentioned that he disliked those kinds of figures and referred to them as "shampoo bottle figures"
    >>
I don’t think an ip or range ban is enough, just death.
    >>

    >adult collectibles
Fucking hell. It feels good to know these types will be killed when society collapses.
    They're toys. Call them toys.
    >>
    >>11922617
Unfortunately, toys are even more of a luxury hobby than gaming or outdoor hobbies so toy companies will take ANY opportunity to increase prices.
If fully articulated figures were once 10 dollars and imports 20, it was likely because they were so cheap they could give them away without taking a loss.

Did everyone forget when jakks made pic related nearly a decade ago alongside a similarly scaled and poseable John Cena? I know this is a retrospammer thread, and any attempts to further legitimate conversation will be derailed or ignored, but there is genuinely truth to what retroblasting has to say. Even if retail release Galactuses and Sentinels had to be gimped to meet a budgeprice point, it should have been done.

Here's hoping the Prime sells well enough to merit similar releases. Megatron, the Iron Giant, Liberty Prime, Mechagodzilla, Godzilla, etc. There might even be room in there for a limited shogun warriors revival as a retail exclusive for the Christmas season. I'd pay through the nose for Mazinger Z alone, especially at 35 bucks.

In this video, the creator of RetroBlasting expresses his disbelief and critique of the toy industry, specifically regarding pricing justifications for large-scale figures (0:00-1:19).

    Key takeaways:

The Case Study: The speaker highlights a Big Figs Optimus Prime figure released for the Transformers: The Movie 40th anniversary, which is approximately three feet tall and retails for $35 (0:30-1:10).
Challenging Industry Narratives: The creator argues that this product invalidates long-standing industry excuses—such as high manufacturing costs, retail shelf footprints, and global economic instability—used by major companies to justify massive price hikes for large collectibles (1:16-3:00, 13:46-14:18).
Adult Targeting: He asserts that by utilizing specific branding (the 40th Anniversary label) and opting for a 1/12 scale, companies are clearly targeting adult collectors rather than children, despite claims to the contrary (11:00-12:20).
Conclusion: The existence of this product is presented as "damning evidence" that current high-priced collector items are a result of corporate greed and price gouging rather than unavoidable market forces (8:45-10:00, 13:00-14:00).

    >>
    >>11928622
I don't have time to watch the vids this morning, but I do remember their conflict.

Scott did end up being wrong about He-Man. It didn't get cancelled 2 years ago like he swore it had been. A lot of He-Man fans (like Michael) like to pretend that MOTU 2001 (which Scott worked on) was the worse line in the entire franchise. Michael gets holier-than-thou in that most "Michael" of ways with at times acting like he knows more about how the toy industry is ran than a guy who actually worked for a major producer within it.

From my view both were wrong. MOTU 2001 didn't suck. It didn't get cancelled 2 years ago like Scott thought. Both displayed an unrelenting ego that couldn't concede any point in the name of their stubborn pride. And this is what happens when two egos who believe themselves to be "important alpha leaders" within the fandom collide.
    >>
I swear you faggots like e-celeb drama more than the actual toys they talk about. You're a bunch of teenage girls.
    >>
    >>11929748
I think people are more entertained by it than impressed by it. The so-called "elites" think they're gaining clout while kicking down "lesser people" beneath them by engaging in pointless arguments, when they just look like retards and often enough bullies.
    >>
    >>11929808
This is the biggest victim complex I've ever fucking seen. Who fucking cares what these literal who's think? I never even would've known about Retroblasting's existence if you idiots didn't shove is face down this board's throat for six fucking years. If any of these "people" influence you in any way you are a fucking NPC and don't get a goddamn opinion. Grow a fucking back bone you pussy.
    >>
    >>11929811
    >Who fucking cares what these literal who's think?
I do agree. I personally reject the whole social notion of (((INFLUENCERS))). But they do show up and inject their (((INFLUENCE))) everywhere (including here). They're easy to spot because they'll create a big argument over the tiniest of points while being as insulting as possible because someone disagreed, which they took as a challenge to their egos. Hobbies are supposed to be fun and enjoyable escapism from the bullshit in life, but they act like there's no joy to be had at all because hobbies are "serious hardcore business."

Retroblasting does have its good points and its bad points though. In this case the Shogun-style Optimus Prime for $35 is a positive thing. I don't consider it important enough to influence me on anything because I've spent a lifetime of liking what I like with no fucks given if anyone else does.
    >>
    >>11929813

Peace, bro. Get some happiness in your life instead of being wound-up tight over a hobby that's supposed to be fun.

    > Scott did end up being wrong about He-Man. It didn't get cancelled 2 years ago like he swore it had been.
He technically wasn’t wrong on his claims that Origins was less successful at retail than 200X, and 200X was considered a flop by Mattel’s old standards. The mini-comic Stratos caused the line to have to be rebranded, which was a trick Mattel was pulling because stores wouldn’t buy more after they couldn’t sell out the Stratos wave. So they started doing crossovers and cartoon figures. The Netflix MOTU series also failed to catch on with it’s toyline and Masterverse ended up flopping because it was front loaded with figures based on the Kevin Smith show.

Origins ended up becoming online exclusive and Masterverse became Walmart exclusive and has been replaced. By every metric Scott was right, but Mattel just pulled a lot of tricks to keep MOTU going and refused to let the brand die and had a movie to keep toys coming. Mattel considers MOTU an evergreen brand now.

They want it to fail. The movie was intentionally made to suck, and so were the new character redesigns. The only reason the Core line is doing well is because it's underpriced. But Mattel is losing money on the line, so the price will have to increase soon. Probably to $12 next year, and to $15 in 2028. But Core sales will plummet once it's no longer a bargain.
    >>
    >>11930142
I don't agree. I honestly thought that Kevin Smith and company thought they were creating something awesomely epic that would revitalize the line. Even now Smith refuses to admit that his cartoon was absolute dogcrap, and thinks that critics are just trolls.
    >>
    >>11930422
Kevin Smith is just a frontman, put in place to take the fall when projects fail. You know, like how we're supposed to believe that the host of a reality show is now the most powerful person in the world and is responsible for the high gas prices. Utterly ridiculous!
