I didn't realize why and when Kenner released SO MANY Batmobiles. Why they do this?

There were like six redecos of the batcave too
    >>
    >>11909899
The same reason they released so many Batman figures and Batcave playsets. They sold.

If you look at the image, it's technically Hasbro that made most of those, not Kenner.
Kenner was basically dissolved by 1999. They made a lot of unique Batmobiles, but they couldn't reuse the molds after the movie license ran its course and at the time they had little reason to renew the license after.
When Hasbro got all of Kenner's assets, they were pretty lazy with the Batman line since there was no movie coming up and that's what made the most profits. They diverted a lot of teams from other lines to work on Star wars (which is why there's no real Batman Beyond line and most of it is made up of a cancelled Y2K Batman line)

Hasbro didn't want to renew the DC license since they thought it wasn't worth it, so they just cranked out a bunch of redecoes of Kenner molds before losing it. This is why there's a ton of BTAS/TNBA exclusives in 2000-2003, it's them making use of all these molds before the end. the BTAS Batmobile was probably a huge mold one they wanted to make the most out of before disposing of.
    >>11909983
similar reason why the Batcave got so much use. It was a big mold to make and they figured kids wouldn't care too much if it wasn't too accurate to any individual movie or cartoon. Probably broke even fast on that one.
    >>
    >>11909899
Because each new cartoon and movie brought a different version.

I recently bought that stupid blue one full of bats for some reason. I just love insane Kenner repaints.

Maximum Kenner will always be the time they repackaged an Ewok village as Robin Hood's forest hideout.
    >>
    >>11910464
Pretty much all of that robin Hood line reuses existing molds in some degree, it's actually pretty cool how clever they got.
They did use a lot of softgoods to hide the extent of some of the reuse, but I just think it's funny to imagine some Kenner exec buying the license because they remembered they had a Robin Hood-based superhero mold in the archive.

I didn't know there was a Kenner 89 Batmobile before Batman Returns. I had pic related that had no roof. Also I didn't know the bat symbol decals went on the side, where I placed mine inside those side openings, which actually looked better.

Reminds me of all the times Mattel reused New Adventure of Heman toys. I think Demolition Man was one.

    That's the Toybiz one

I think I actually saw this at a flea market as a kid but passed on it because I thought it was missing parts, didn't know it never even came with a canopy

I had this growing up. It came with a flimsy plastic cover that represents the shield that goes over the vehicle. The missles were made out of wood too. And when they hit they hit hard.
    >>
    >>11911238
wow, that's fucking rad. I had the Kenner one as a kid, which was more screen accurate, but I would have loved a flimsy plastic shield cover.

I got picrel because I thought it was Arnold Schwarzenegger. Turns out it was Denis Leary, kek.

What's the consensus on the Mezco Batmobiles? I am tempted by both the 89 and Animated ones, they look great. I like that the 89 box pays homage to the Toybiz box. Do you guys own them?
    >>
    >>11911238
It's weird how the shields never came back in any capacity in any other Batman media again. They seemed like a smart ides.
    >>
    >>11915515
I guess it made more sense to just make the car itself heavily armored enough that it wouldn't need separate shields

    >I had pic related that had no roof.
I'm honestly glad I never got that as a kid. Not having the rood would have bugged the hell out of me. I know I would have played with it for three seconds before going and colouring in some cardboard with a black marker and taping it to the top of the car.
    >>
    >>11913866
What are you, some kinda asshole? You probably drive real slow in the ultra fast lane too.
    >>
    >>11909899
The '93 batmobile is one of the best toys I ever owned. It's a shame the Kenner BTAS line will never get a proper remake.
    >>
    >>11909899
I'm probably coming up on this many tumblrs and batpods
    >>
It's kinda a bummer other superheroes don't have super-mobiles. Even when it comes to supervillains, it's only Batman's rogues.

I think I actually ended up doing this.

Hot Wheels does the same, but with like actual plastic.
