    >Why I2P?
You can torrent for free, no paying for vpns, worrying about doing it from home, needing to pay for a server. Also when you run an I2P server you help the network out.

    > why not use i2p?
Its slow, i2p routers get faster with longer uptimes so it's good to have a home server, not many sites to browser torrents although I'l be honest I don't know a ton about torrenting

There are just too many technologies in this realm for me. Torrent, Tor, VPN, Nostr, Usenet, I2p...ITS ENOUGH SLICES!
    >>
    >>1384888
i2p is pretty neat, better than tor in principle imo.
Still have just tor installed on my new computer right now desu.
    Have to install i2p again.

Honestly the advantage of tor is its provided exit node. For i2p you'd have to pay some as far as I know.
Also i2p is rather slow. If you don't absolutely have to, torrenting over yggdrasil would be preferable.
    >>
    >>1387389
I leave a server with i2p going, and it's relatively fast after you've been on for a while. I like that you can save eepsite hashes in your local address book under whatever name you like, and they have an 'old internet' kind of feel. I don't bother accessing the clearnet through an exit node: that's not what i2p is for.
    >>
    >>1384888

no. you all have to use i2p

    Thanks for posting, OP.

I had tried to get torrenting working on I2P some time ago, but I couldn't get the trackers to connect to any clearnet peers iirc. Not sure what I was doing wrong but I might give it another shot.
    >>
    >>1388818
    >but I couldn't get the trackers to connect to any clearnet peers iirc.
I2P torrenting is I2P user to I2P user only. I2P is not Tor.

explain to me, a retard, how torrent through i2p works. is it just builtin in the i2p protocol? do I have to add a proxy to my torrent client?
    >>
    >>1389674
Is that the french one, ygg or something? I thought there was a bypass?

    >>1389709
    >do I have to add a proxy to my torrent client?
Yes. Your client has to support I2P to leech & seed torrents on the I2P network.
From my understanding, it works the same as clearnet just that the traffic is now encrypted and routed many times , so it's now harder to tell whos doing what.[1][2]

yup, yggtorrent There's a forum on the site, and it's rather amusing to see that there haven't been any messages since last night (they delete everyone who complains and ban the account).
it was easy to bypass because these retards left the hash visible, but they removed it. There's some script or something that pops up on the subreddit, but it's patched within a few hours.
The largest team (several hundred terabytes uploaded) posted a message saying it was a scandal and that they would stop seeding. The result? Account banned.
Now everyone's shitting on them and the most recent uploads have 0 seeds lmao

id like to support i2p BUt isn't
the dl speel like what between 10-150KBs with an average of 50ish ?! Bro thats like what 1 week to download one 27GB bluray rip

I rather support seedbox providers as for like 3-4 euro you can these days get a 1TB disk storage seedbox linux shell

at 50KBs it would take 7-8 months to fill that and at less than that over a year. The time it takes to setup i2p I got that money out in working for 1 hour for minimum wage in lidl to pay a seedbox for a whole year and can actually offer DDL to ppl from my seedbox like friends and family
    >>
    >>1389881
with 14 peers im uploading around ~50KBps to ~550KBps, sitting at around 400KBps right now.
its definitely not fast and especially when only like 1 person is seeding you can probably expect something like 50-100 KBps. If you're trying to fill up with a torrents at once I'm not actually sure what your average speed would look like. I guess the max would be your max, for me right now thats 5MBps or 5000 KBps but yeah it isn't that fast.
That DDL part of your seedbox actually sounds pretty cool and i don't doubt it's probably more convinient. I2P can't do something like that since if you wanted to do DDLs you'd need to run a eepsite they can download from or give someone the login to your I2P router or just run a normal website on your server seperately to download from.

You know what a seedbox is so I will assume you also know how bittorrent works.
If everyone kept saying & doing what you are doing then I2P would have been stuck on 150KiB/s.
I2P is the same as bittorrent, more people & bandwidth means better throughput.

    >I rather support seedbox providers as for like 3-4 euro you can these days get a 1TB disk storage seedbox linux shell
Do they really need your support? Are they not just inserting themselves between you and content so the can make money off other peoples work?

Not trying to come across as rude how I phrase this, I guess technically you can set it to 0% of your bandwidth if you want? the option is there. It just hurts your anonymity a bit with the amount of data coming in and out, the connections are still going through proxies and are encrypted. If that's your issue then there's your solution if you're open to it. I forgot to answer your question earlier, my bad anon.

maybe switch them over to av1/opus/avif later to free up on space and more friendly on RAM since the videos are in AVC and 7-12 GB is a bit of storage for the videos to take up.
    >>
    >>1390494
My prediction: what will become more important will not be anonymity technologies -- I2P and Tor (among others) already work pretty nicely -- but technologies that conceal I2P (et al.) in the first place. basically steganography.
I've thought that it'd be cool to steganographically hide Tor connections inside seemingly normal HTTP connections, leveraging small differences in things like Last-Modified, Date, Cookie, Etag headers and stuff.
Though the bitrate would be extremely low ;_; and there's probably much better ideas from smarter people

Tor has a bit more of this with bridges and multiple types and stuff, helping people from china and everything connect, with multiple distribution methods like websites, emails, telegram, whatever else. I2P I really have no idea but I see what you mean. I agree with it somewhat, but if I think about how censorship is now I don't feel that way for myself at least. I can't think of a time, as an american, where tor or vpns have been illegal. I can't think of a time where nyaa.si or whatever 1337x or TPB has been illegal to just visit. Usually you have to be literally committing a crime to get a DMCA letter in the mail or whatever.
I don't disagree at all that purely connecting to these things is for sure blocked in other places (Italy I think, China, Russia, North korea, I'm sure there's more) and it's getting a lot worse in some areas (UK, Iran).
Overall I'm hopeful that these things will continue to work out and won't face massive legal issues or if they do, it'll be really hard on the plaintiffs or whatever you wanna call them. I do hope I2P gets some cool obfuscation like you mentioned though.

Never did it but I know theres some clients popular in I2P that it sounds like can do it (maybe BiglyBT or Qbittorrent?, Only way to find out is look it up or edit the file yourself and add the tracker) Sorry I can't help a lot with that question.
Also does this av1/opus reencode seem alright? Curious if the quality is good enough for how big the torrent is for this meguca stream and if its worth trying again.

    >>
    >>1397721
    >signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
    >probably a memory leak
This signal means the program did an invalid memory operation. This is different from a memory leak, which is when a program wastes memory for no good reason because it accidentally left an unneeded resource in memory (and if this happens repeatedly or steadily, it can cause the program to be terminated by the OS due to OOM (out-of-memory), not due to an invalid memory operation).

It's a bug either in the app or one of its libraries. You might have better luck with the official I2P app which is based on Java, which is a memory-safe language that doesn't allow invalid memory operations.

Not much, I've treated the websites as the nice novelty to go with the torrenting. I sometimes check the forums once a week
The low barrier to entry to make a website there means lotta people make one out of curiosity, then leave it to die couple of months later.

i2P is (almost dangerously) garbage for users. No integrated privacy-first browser to prevent fingerprinting, etc. Name resolution based on local address books, which are typically copied from other users in practice. Imagine going to e.g. a darknet market, verifying the link is correct, and hitting a fed honeypot because the address book was compromised. Worse than useless.

Arpanet used similar name resolution in the 80s, until we realized it's garbage and invented DNS.

They probably expect a certain level of competence since everything is done by users, from hosting nodes, relaying traffic & erecting services. Seems to all be user based. Unlike tor where someone else runs relays & exits.

You could just use the mulvad browser. https://mullvad.net/en/browser

Don't host files work almost the same way? I don't think you have to use the readable addresses, you could just stick to the base32 URLs. Some services don't even register readable host names.

If we're going to talk about "in practice," let's talk about how this has never happened in the history of i2p "in pratice."

fitting to both the i2p post and torrent board: http://torrentthing.i2p/ found this on the registry, has some good shit

Check out surfsup.i2p. Avoid the video files with the long hashes for names. You will regret downloading those.

That's kind of an odd thing to complain about, don't you think? It's a torrent tracker on the dark web and you don't like the interface? That's like whining about the way your drug dealer dresses. I don't like AI myself, but c'mon.

sooooo because its on the "dark web" im not allowed to make fun of it, got it, wont happen again daddy, i promise

genuinely curious what's the average connection speed is on I2P, usually get connections that hover around 10-50kb/s, the rare 'measured in bits/s' and the even rarer 500kb/s and even 1>mb/s
Are fast connections rare on I2P or they're just retards with 0 hops?

    Isn't I2P generally very sus?
And anyone on the network know your IP so it's not very private.
Some fucks at FBI upload some shit on i2P and then can charge you for it.

Just don't do that then. I like manually assigning custom names to eepsites. DNS are garbage.

Not really, transit data is useless for a midpoint user and the burden of proof would still be on the prosecution to say you are the end recipient of anything suspect.

welp no peers on every torrent not even the most popular magnets on postman.
using i2pd/i2psnark as i always did but for some reason it is pure failure and sadness....
