What are your top 10 best footballers of all time?

    My list:
    1 - Messi
    2 - Pelé
    3 - Neymar
    4 - Ronaldo Nazario
    5 - Cristiano Ronaldo
    6 - Maradona
    7 - Ronaldinho
    8 - Zidane
    9 - Roberto Carlos
    10 - Mbappe
    >>

    >10 - Mbappe
A forward with such limited dribbling, passing, and playmaking ability should not touch a Top 10 OAT. His "best moment" - the 2022 WC final hat trick - relied on him getting two penalties. He's a complete ghost at the Euros. Hasn't won any UCLs despite being in top clubs surrounded by elite players. Obviously he doesn't press or run much OOP and he contributes nothing to defense, but that could at least be forgiven if his technique and playmaking skills were elite, but they're not. Even his positioning isn't always that great when you compare him to elite strikers like Haaland. And he certainly doesn't pull off any acrobatics (scissor kick goals, etc) like prime Suarez or Ronaldo.
    >>
    >>158368598
Player with most goals in World Cup history by the way
    >>
    >>158368641
That's because there are more games at the World Cup and more opportunities to statpad against shitters and midtable teams (same applies to the expanded Champions League format). That's why raw numbers often don't mean shit. Quality over quantity always remains true.

Because Maldini was the only one whose career lasted long enough to play through both eras. While the game may have changed in terms of positioning and passing since the 90s the players were fully modern in terms of skill.

    >>
    >>158384061
Why? If your argument is "b-b-but look at these big games he lost" the same applies to other GOATs like Maldini, Baggio, Fat Ronaldo, Zidane, etc. All the best players have lost their fair share of big matches.
    >>
    >>158384061
The thing is he might not be the best free kick taker or the best dribbeler or the best goal scorer but he comes a second best on all attacking like play making . Beckham maight be a better free kick player , zidan might be a better midfield , Ronaldo might be a better goal scorer but non of them combine all skills he is basically above average on all attack while others may be elite in one or two aspect but lack the rest . He can play a very poor game but makes a great assist or scores a free kick or creat a deadly chance out of nothing and that is sometimes enough to win a game

Combined list for Uruguay, Chile, and Colombia, the only relevant CONMEBOL nations besides Argentina/Brazil:

    Luis Suarez
    Diego Godin
    Enzo Francescoli
    Arturo Vidal
    Diego Forlan
    Radamel Falcao
    Edinson Cavani
    Ivan Cordoba
    Alexis Sanchez

    1/2 - Messi/Pele
    3/4 - Maradona/Salah
    5 - Kante
    6/7 - Cruiyff/Vini(pre-surgery)
    8/9 - Khune/Modric
    10 - 08 Cristiano/Suarez/Ozil

    XI:
    GK - Khune (Oblak, Neuer)
DF - Militao, Rudiger, Bonucci (Carvajal, Demiral, Khoulibaly, Kim)
DMF - Casemiro, Kante (Toure, Rakitic)
MF - Modric (Valverde, De Bruyne, Gerrard)
    AMF - Ozil (Cruiyph, Maradona)
RW - Messi (Di Maria, Salah)
    LW - Vini (Kvara)
STR - Kane (Lewa, Suarez, Endrick)

    Coach - Allegri (Ancelotti, Flick)

Too much individuality kills balance and coordination. This team is simply to win the next game.
