I'm not a scientist or anything, but with all these modern trains colliding, couldn't it be because of magnets?
Modern trains use magnetic levitation systems, and magnets attract each other, so the chances the magnets malfunctioned or were hacked by third parties are high, are they not?
I just think making two magnet based trains go so close to each other is crazy
    >>
    >spanish "technology"
here lies the answer you seek

    >all these modern trains colliding
it's all these Spanish trains colliding, it's a Spanish thing happening in Spain

Spain has the 2nd best train system in the world, only topped by Japan

fuck's going on over there they had some previous issues before.
and is this a good argument for trusting humans over dedicated systems? as far as I know this was human error.
    >>
    >>17083387
no, there was a computerized security system. the human error was to keep the trains circulating after the computer went blue screen of death
    >>
Two trains traveling the same direction on shared track stop because red lights ahead (both trains received red signals).
Dispatch advises “false red, proceed at full speed.
Train 2 gets the message and goes full throttle. Train 1 fails to move until Train 2 forces the issue.
    Hilarity ensued.
    >>
    >>17083391
so the computer knew what's up, so much so it had a stroke to stop it all. and humans said "nah brah I know better than the machine"
    >>
    >>17083397
No, the computer threw a false positive and both trains stopped.
A human told both trains to then proceed.
The front train did not get the message and was subsequently rear ended.
    >>
    >>17083403
    >computer be like: the trains are gonna crash
    >minutes later the trains crash
how is that a false positive?
    >>
    >>17083425
The initial red was false. There was no reason for either train to stop.
    >>
    >>17083429
    stopped trains don't crash
    >>
    >>17083430
Neither do two trains traveling in the same direction at the same speed.
    But both did.
Only one restarted at the gun.
    >>
    >>17083430
If only the first train hadn’t stopped in the first place.
    Oh well. Next time.
    >>
    >>17083310
Probably just shitty engineering. Countries shouldn't bother with this high-speed shit until they get their normal rail systems and general infrastructure working properly. China and Japan can do it. Spain, not so much.

Can't they get real time location markers with automated alarm/breaking systems?

And take away a human’s job?
    >>
    >>17083447
It was both bad tech implementation and human incompetence. The system routinely produced false alerts which was slowing down the system. The solution was to override the computer system with human controlled operations when an alert was identified as a false positive. The problem is the human controlled operation relies on flawed humans. In this case, one of the trains was unable to move when ordered to do so and the human in charge of giving control instructions to the trains didn't notice that one of the trains ordered to move, didn't. Normally the computer would notice this and shut everything down. But the computer had been disabled because it earlier had shut things down due to a false positive.
In countries like Japan where a false positive generates an investigation and then action to reduce the future likelihood of another false positive, human override control is rare and the operators highly trained and attentive when in that mode. For Spain, the solution was to ignore the root cause of the false positives and make human override into a routine operation. Humans are bad at monitoring details when something has become routine. That the speed and location indicator of one train in the network wasn't changing on the screen was overlooked by the human operator. Many people died as a result.

Interesting, thank you. Yes things are different in Japan. Not sure if it's entirely healthy but they make shit work properly.
    >>
I don't see what's the problem here. Just make the first few train cars sacrificial. Stop trying to make the system perfect. Put the train engineer in the middle.

We will never know this for certain without knowing their vaxx status as well.
The train might have full of zombies in South Korea has taught us anything.

Since nobody has mentioned it yet, the Spanish high speed trains run on regular, ballasted track and rails. There is no maglev here.
    >>
    >>17083961
    >a flying train would have crashed
You added nothing to the conversation.
Turns out, no one on Train #1 spoke English. The wetbacks just sat there waiting for the command in Spanish.
    Unfuckingbelievable.

    >>17083967
I added that the OP doesn't know what he's talking about because it had nothing to do with magnets.

Just a reminder that the ultra regulatory EU has demanded the use of ERMTS. Strangely, I cannot see anywhere if it was operating here.
    >>
    >>17084002
The rail line in question does not use it, but instead uses the failure prone LZB system from the 1970s.

    >>
    >>17084002
It doesn't really matter if they use that system or not.
The problem is their system had a total failure and they authorized the switch to manual operation.
They were for some reason okay with doing that at high speed, which is just suicidal.
The only way I can imagine that happening is if people in charge really wanted to see a big crash.
