>study chemistry at university
>enjoy it
>decide to pick up a physics textbook
>authors just throw formulas at you
>authors don't even attempt to explain how they were derived or link them to actual physical proccesses
I feel like i'm just learning about math not reality. Has anyone here studied physics formally gone through this?

The more you get into Physics the more it becomes Applied Mathematics.
Also Physics does teach you have to derive equations. Ie acceleration is the derivative of velocity with respect to time.

The entire point is that it can be axiomatized.

Read Serway-Jewett or Halliday-Resnik-Krane instead.

Thats what physics is tbdesu, and why a lot of people get filtered. Its mainly applied mathematics. Labs are the most fun part where you really get to put your thinking cap on.
>authors don't even attempt to explain how they were derived or link them to actual physical proccesses
Some textbooks have exercises which are just to derive an equation lol

lots of books do that yeah, just find a more formal textbook on the subject, and they should be talking about lagrangian and hamiltonian shit

as I say that, it's not exactly expected that a training physicist already has formal mathematical education, but they should at least know how to use math objects. Don't know about linear algebra for infinite dimensions? Don't even know about formal linear algebra at all? Well, you've been using them so fuck it, let's keep going, etc

that's what intermediate mechanics is for, not intro physics.

No, these books are very boring and not made with a great effort. They essentially teach the test, so that at the end you can solve certain types of problems.
For the high school (before calculus) level Conceptual Physics by Hewitt is good. It is really about the physical processes, situations in the real world and their understanding in terms of laws. But very little math content, so it's a bit too far on the other side of the spectrum.

Openstax is good for certain things. Like prealgebra, which is basically a giant workbook, is good at drilling these basic things. But more concept-heavy things like physics intro are not a good match for this style.

turns out "no contradictions" is the most fundamental of all principles in science
shocker

try another textbook

LLMs can help you. Also: anyone serious about this area of study read the bios of the physicists to understand them, what they accomplished, how they worked.

Stop being a midwit OP.

Try a better textbook such as Landau and Lifshitz :^)

Good mathematics textbooks absolutely tell you where the formulas come from and how they were derived. In any case, learn Analysis first (regardless of what you wanna do/study in life).
