There are guys out there who really believe that following magic rules like being a real man or working hard mystically compel people or the universe to behave in ways that benefit those who obey the magic rules. They genuinely don't grasp that a woman will just leave on a whim even when a man ticks off all boxes on the "real man" list because free will doesn't care about a man's efforts.
