Went through the trouble of buying, packing, and sending a birthday gift to my mom, but she was more enthralled by my cousin who just so happens to be a Lt. Colonel. She's genuinely proud of him, whereas I'm more of an afterthought. It's nothing entirely new, but it hit particularly hard today, and I now realize (more or less) why my bio-dad's family won't talk to me anymore: I'm the family reject. I'm never mentioned or invited to anything because they're all ashamed of me. No matter what I do now, it'll never be 'enough.' I'm fucking done.

I am the family overachiever btw. They were pissed as all shit that I managed to finish my degree and chose a career that's not "glamourous enough" in spite of their effort to make me fail out.
>>85862911I'm glad you mentioned Christmas; I've gotten into the habit of buying myself some things and simply not opening them/taking them out of the bag until Christmas Day. I'd buy these things as early as September, have a nice little pile, and completely forgot what's in them; the real 'wrapping paper' is memory loss. That being said, I've also had a similar experience when I finished university with two (2) bachelor's, yet not a single family member said anything about them.
