During the 19th century Britain was a mega power than was feared and envied. Little island that seemingly invented everything and took over the world. The great game between Tzarist Russia and the British empire was huge, almost a world war in the 19th century before WW1. Afghanistan is literally a completely artificial entity created to be a buffer state between the British Empire (Pakistan India) and the Russian empire. This huge fear of Britain and the British monarchy has weirdly sort of carried out through the Soviet period to today. Ordinary Russians believing that the British are the true puppet masters behind America and NATO. Think King Charles secretly pulls the strings. Hilarious. In reality, UK is just another small euro country now. London is still a big financial base for dark money and good music post WW2 but that is it. Heavy economic stagnation since the 2007 crash. The monarchy is a glorified tourist attraction and has more in common with the Kardashians these days than anything else. A lot of the online hatred for England/Britain on the internet is driven by obsessive Russian bots. England is seen as enemy no 1 in Russia above even the USA.
