i haven't been able to focus on a book in years. how did i do this shit no problem when i was a kid? i still could a little bit about 5 years ago.
now it's like i have dementia. now i feel like an illiterate caveman and it's made worse by seeing people who are clearly otherwise retarded still have at least some things to say just because they can actually read.

Don't be too impressed. Reading isn't the sophisticated hobby snobs like to make it out to be. There's tons of slop out there in book form and plenty of people that consume it.

Just keep trying, I had sort of the same issue but you have to retrain yourself to focus on reading again. You lost it because of the internet but you can get it back with enough effort.

go somewhere without electronics and try to read. make it as much of a chore as possible to stare at a screen. it seems like a chore at first but if you're lazy, you'll rather just leave it there afterwards instead of get it back. i find focusing on anything is also easier when there's other people around, since looking at stuff on my phone or gaming near them is embarrassing to me.
it helps to think up voices for the characters and pause every once in a while to think on the story so far. entertain yourself with it and take your time. you really shouldn't try shotgunning a book. it's not meant to be a chore. maybe snack on something as you read, so the tiny bit of serotonin and dopamine makes reading more tolerable over time

I think it's the same reasons I can't play video games anymore. you grew up. that's all there is to it. as an adult you subconsciously know you should focus on more productive things. so now you can't enjoy the childish things.

catastrophic waste of digits on this retarded post

you can't play video games because you're a dopamine fried weirdo who is probably bad at them anyway. Stick to TV, movie or worse, stream cucking. That's more your style.

In my case I just simply can't read things I care about for some reason, for example, I have no problem reading 4chan post since I know they hold little to no value, but the moment I try reading something I actually care about is like words lose all meaning, I get caught reading the same lines over and over without properly understanding them and do almost no progress.

I think on average adults are less predisposed to reading. I noticed in 2009 as a 21 year old NEET that I just couldn't bring myself to read much. No TikTok or "algorithm" in 2009.

Sometimes the simple answers are the most accurate: people who don't read books are idiots. Some of you are just stupid, and that's okay.
