I ordered Genki a learning Japanese textbook set, my journey begins with a single step.
>>85853337you don't learn a language by reading a textbook, just find japanese sentences from futabachan and datamine them with LUTE to start learning
what is the origin of this meme it speaks to me
>>85853377>it speaks to meThat's because you're autistic
>>85853356yes anon it's going to be lots of fun
>>85853383the fuck is autistic
>>85853337I'm in section 2 lesson 8 of Japanese duo lingo and I'm doing about 30 minutes of practice every day so I won't be illiterate in moon runes. They have me at over 50 kanji by now that I can recognize, and I practice writing them every day as well because I recognize that as a separate skill from reading them
>>85853337if you're getting started with japanese, i would recommend bunpro. it's worth the subscription and way better than anki
>>85853337Isn't genki when they put a squid in a woman's vagina?
>>85853356Please do not follow this dumb advice from this online cult. Pretty much everyone online who says this, including this anon, is thoroughly incapable of having even the most basic Japanese conversation after years and the gurus who preach it like Matt who did become conversational didn't follow it, they just changed their story later while their earlier videos talked a lot about textbooks and stuff. They just realized these people is where their "whales" are.The idea that it's better to achieve purpose X with something never designed for purpose X that can just be accidentally also be used for it than with something specifically designed for that very purpose is silly.Anyway, learning Japanese has been a colossal waste of time for me. Yes, I can now understand and read pretty much most Japanese fiction and talk with Japanese people both orally and in writing, and then what? It turns out that it actually didn't make Japanese fiction more enjoyable because you need a /really/ high level before you actually understand all the nuances as well as a native speaker and I could just talk with my friends in my native language anyway and Japanese people are just not that interesting to talk to.>>85853607Bunpro, at least in their newer stuff also has some questionable explanations and unnatural example sentences, which is the real issue with learning Japanese. The online is so filled with self-proclaimed gurus whose example sentences to illustrate their grammar points don't even pass scrutiny. When Cure Dolly's first example sentence is "sakuraga nihonzinda" together with constant wrong use of "ha" or rather lack thereof in example sentences it doesn't inspire much confidence as someone who's trying to explain what it means, and surprise surprise, the explanations make no sense and are just super weird nonsense.Tofugu is better. At least the example sentences are all super natural and explain in what situation they would be and would not be natural.
