The megacity of New Hope is a high speed network of people constantly move day and night. It doesn't matter if you're in the tightly packed lower class ghetto districts, the more proper residential districts, or located in the pristine and well looked after private communities like PrimeHold. New Hope is one of the few megacities left in the world. Port Haven, a smaller scale waterside megacity, had suffered a devastating molten attack from a powerful and still growing crime syndicate. There's been a recent spready of them here in New Hope, EXCALIBUR 1 tags on some businesses and other areas have been popping up and those streets becoming worse for wear since. New Hope has one massive draw to it though. The sprawling Hero Academy, its grounds easily draws up into not only the 10's of thousands of square feet but also it's underground levels as well. New Hope's Hero Academy is more recently famous from it's latest graduate Solaris, a young man with complete mastery over conjuring flames and absorbing heat. This is also the school you will be attending for the next few years more than likely. You look at the acceptance letter sitting on the end table near your bed, you've had that there for some months over the break period of waiting for school to start. Ok we have our three names. 96 is the highest roll of the initial 3 as well so highest takes it. YOU WERE BORN GIFTED WITH..Power Negation (1/5)You had first discovered your abilities at a very young age. Someone from your school with the ability of Oil Generation was causing mischief on the grounds of your elementary playground. It wasn't until they had gotten close enough to you that they quickly found out their ability ceased to cooperate when they willed it to. It never really seemed to bother many people if anything you were practically a sentient safety net for some people to hang around with. It's hard to find a willing participant to practice your abilities on, your understanding of your powers is also very limited due to this. From what you can tell, if someone is within your area a few feet away they're stripped of their power. Most of the population in New Hope often does experience phenomena like this growing up. What started as a strange and widespread genetic anomaly over many years became common. People in this world are either born with powers or they're not, those born with it are expected to handle it responsibly, those who don't are hunted down by a government regulated bureau of those gifted with incredible abilities, The Elite 10. Some of The Elite 10 are known throughout the world as powerhouses where at the top of the food chain is the much older hero humbly named Guardian, a beast of a man who can fly and easily level a heavily reinforced building with a single breath. After some time contemplating all this you get back to the note. The note reads..Dear Clarissa Hawkins, it's with this letter your admission to Hero Academy as a first year has been approved. You will be expected to come in and test your abilities on Monday, September 1st, 2120, to establish your power ranking. The letter goes on into legal jargon and signatures you've already applied and are ready to hand in. Today is the day they want you to come in and show what you can do, you've worked your ass off to have this chance. Though everybody comes from a different walk of life, you made sure to use yours to your advantage..>I grew up in the ghetto districtsHigh resistance to all forms of damageYour lean physique makes you quicker on your feet helping with defensive rollsA life spent among more desperate and daring people has jaded you, you have a hard time making friends and performing persuasion rolls>I had a pretty normal middle class lifeHigh resistance against psychic and supernatural abilitiesStart with one of your parents being an C ranking hero and mentor>I grew up in PrimeHoldHigh resistance against persuasion based abilitiesStart with one of your parents being an A ranking hero and mentorYou periodically see something that you aren't sure is real

>>6476854Okay, lets shizo it a bit.>I grew up in PrimeHold
>>6476854You grew up in Primehold a well off, private, and luxurious community where even a couple of the Elite 10 reside. Primeholds district in New Hope is far away from the ghetto and subsidized low income areas, there's not much crime or syndicate activity to speak of in this area of New Hope as it would be a suicide mission for any villain daring enough with the booming hero community residing here. Many large and multi leveled houses fill the rows of Primehold a testament to the booming wealth in this pocket of the megacity, in the center of the large community park is a statue depicting a much younger Guardian with his knee raised on a high rock overlooking the children playing. Growing up here was luxurious and your family had to do more than just earn their spot, your mom is a testament to this. You've seen some of her own previous paperwork from the Hero Academy long ago when you got your admission letter, her given hero name by the commission in charge was Hexxed. She's never really shown much of her abilities to you over the years, and when she's closed to you, you don't get the sense you're suppressing anything from within her like you do the other kids and their parents here. When she talks about her time as a hero she shows you a few photos every once in a while, her red hair draped down past her shoulders in her younger years, the black domino mask and loose dress she wears is certainly a style of it's time. Nowadays your mom doesn't do much beyond household duties and going into her study. Speaking of the study, there's a sinister feeling that comes from within that room when mom's not there. Often times you will wake up in the middle of the night and swear you see something watching you in the corner of your room, though nothing of note has ever come of that feeling happening yet. It's almost time to head over and begin your assessment at the academy. You look once more at the clock and have time to make one last little preparation. >Call out for mom to ask for some advice on your first day>See what dad is watching on the TV downstairs>Leave early, maybe you'll have enough time to make an acquaintance before things begin

PART 1/2>>6476884>Call out for mom to ask for some advice on your first day"Hey, mom!" You cry out, waiting for her voice to see where she is. You already get a feeling that you know the exact answer to her location.. you reluctantly step outside your bedroom and into the upstairs hallway of your two story house. The hardwood floored hall is lit up by the sun cascading above it from the window on the roof. Waiting a few moments after stepping out and hoping to god she's nowhere near that study. You twirl a strand of your own red hair and grip hard onto the loose velvet leg of your pajama shorts. "What is it, sweetie?" You hear a faint voice call from that dreaded room, you frown realizing your fears were right and slowly make your way towards it.The strange feeling like always when she's inside it is gone, this puts you at ease a bit as you turn the handle of the door and enter. You find your mom sitting there at her desk, eyes quickly scanning through the pages of a large, black grimoire styled book before she puts it down to get a look at you and smile. "There's my girl! are you excited for your first day, Clarissa?" She asks you, her head tilting off to the one side a bit causing her long, soft hair to cascade toward that same direction. You beam a smile back at her, "actually I was wondering if you had any advice for my first day.." you ask her, trailing off in hopes you get something solid. She gets up from her seat at the desk and walks towards where you are at the entrance of her study. "Honestly? Give it your all at the assessment, Clarissa. Your performance at the power rankings will declare your status as a first year freshman," she finishes with a sigh before giving you one last smile and ruffling the hair on your head, "oh to be young again," she says and laughs, making her way back to her chair.Shrugging at the advice that she's given you, you suppose that's reasonable enough knowledge to go off of for now. After all it's not like she knows some sort of trick or method of getting an automatic high ranking. Enough time has passed now that you realize that you should be on your way finally. You run towards the front door swinging your school bag onto your back and get a glimpse of your dad and younger brother, both of them are sitting on the couch as your dad watches cartoons with Thomas, you shut the door and can hear the full volume of the TV through the window.I'M GONNA BE THE NUMBER ONE DAIMYO ONE DAY, BELIEVE IT! An energetic blonde cartoon character yells out from the screen.
PART 2/2>>6476900The journey to school is short and uneventful Primehold is just a short 15 minute walking distance from the academy itself. The tall and traditional looking schoolgrounds stands proud and proper with it's prestige making itself known with it's aura. When you get inside the building there's a banner directing all first years to the gymnasium where the power assessments are being held. You waste no time in getting there and arrive just a few minutes early, you pull up your admission letter, the bolded number 58 sits at the bottom and you find your numbered seat in the room.Sitting beside you is a silver haired boy, muttering to himself about not fucking this up and making something of himself for once. Another person beside you is a fairly gender neutral looking individual, they have short cropped blonde hair and stay seated with near perfect posture. They get one look at you and you get a brief wave from them.>Just wait until it's your turn to go up>Speak to the boy>Speak to the other person

PART 1/2>>6476904>Speak to both of themYou decide to strike up a conversation with the boy and the other person seated next to you, since you're all sitting nearby anyway. You turn your attention first to the stressed-out boy, who is mumbling to himself about how he can't screw this up, or else. He has a small frame and a lithe physique, though despite this, you gather that he's more than likely sixteen years old—the average age of first-year students attending Hero Academy, and coincidentally, the age you've turned this year as well. The boy keeps his head lowered, his face buried in his hands, looking as though he might suffer a mental breakdown at any moment, judging by the sheer amount of stress he's under."Uh... hi, I'm Clarissa. Clarissa Hawkins," you chime in, interrupting his solo rant in an attempt to snap him back to reality. He lifts his head slightly, and a single, slightly bloodshot eye darts toward you, fixing its gaze on you. "It's too much..." he mutters calmly before returning to his habit of talking to himself. After what feels like the longest, most uncomfortable minute of your life, he finally ceases his rambling, takes a deep breath, and sits up straight to look at you."Shin. Shin Sayabak. Sorry about that. I don't have complete control over my abilities, and when I'm stressed, it takes a lot for me to rein them in," he explains. In response, you simply give him a brief nod and tell him it's alright. He goes on to explain that his family comes from the ghetto districts near MegaGate 1, a massive entrance and exit point to the Wastes that stretch across the country toward the next megacity. "There's a lot of pressure on me to perform well here. I could be my family's ticket out of our financial situation," he explains grimly.Sounds like this guy has it pretty rough. You hold off on telling him, for now, that you're coming from practically the complete opposite situation. Instead, you opt to offer him some reassurance, wish him luck, and advise him to go all out—advice similar to what your mother had given you earlier. He smiles in response to your initial friendliness and seems a little less stressed overall.CONTACT STATUS UPDATEDSHIN SAYABAKRELATIONSHIP..Grateful Acquaintance
PART 2/2>>6477053After Sayabak goes back to concentrating on keeping whatever his abilities are in check you turn your attention to the androgynous looking student next to you. There's a certain feeling you get from them, much like their personal appearance it's as if they have not only an aura you're able to feel, but one that's ever shifting itself as well. Unable to make heads or tails of it, you get a little dizzy when you look at them for too long. Their short, cropped, blonde hair sits neatly on heir head as they sit in near perfect and almost regal like posture waiting for their turn to go up. Their skin has a fair complexion and much like Shin, they are also quite lithe themselves physically. After a while of trying to make sense of their appearance their attention is also fully focused on you."Clarissa Hawkins, right? Your mother used to be the A rank hero, Hexxed!" Their neutral toned voice exclaims, as if they know all about the close hero roots that establish you already. You also notice Shin's eyes dart back to you after they mentioned your parent being an already high ranking established hero from years ago. You're taken by surprise, are there other students here who may know you to some degree like this? You weren't so aware that your mom still had a fanbase, at least not one from your younger generation. How many heroes have come and gone since your mother was active in the field? The amount is too staggering to even register, you believe. This person introduces themselves to you, "I'm Alex Regaliso!" They exclaim excitedly to you. They're very upfront about all their information with you, explaining that their gifted ability is shape shifting and they're so well practiced in it that they can't fully remember what they once looked like at first in their life to begin with. The way they look now is (in their own mind) the closest they can come to remembering their true form. You question that they must have pictures of them before their powers developed, though for Alex that doesn't seem to be the case as it developed quite early and have been practicing and changing their appearance ever since. CONTACT STATUS UPDATEDALEX REGALISORELATIONSHIP..ACQUAINTANCEThere's a break in your conversation when you here someone call out, "NUMBERS 55 TO 60 PLEASE MAKE YOUR WAY TO THE CHAMBERS!"It looks like you're all going together into separate chambers to be graded at once. >>6477060>I'm going to make my mother proudYou ball your hands into a fist and you strain with determination, you're not going to be deterred from your goals that's not acceptable. You walk up to the chambers with Alex, Shin, and a few others you haven't had the chance to meet yet and are quickly shuffled inside your own individual one. The inside of it is bigger than it appeared from the opposite side of the door you were at previously. The inside you can only guess is made out of a strange heavily reinforced metal material much like the entrance door, this must be to ensure there's minimal structural damage when dealing with students who are gifted physically or with something else that can cause heavy damage around them. "Hello Clarissa, I'm Professor Jinzi. I'll be evaluating your abilities for this session, it says here you're able to nullify certain powersets in close quarters," she states, there's a brief pause before she continues. "Off the bat this is a very strong support ability that can work well within a structured team, though unless you're skilled in close quarters combat, or have another trick up your sleeve it will leave you dead in the water on your own in most engagements," she finishes. BRRRRRR.. CLANG!A door from the other end of the testing chamber opens and shuts, what comes through is another grown man in dress clothes. "This is instructor Philip, he specializes in a wide array of elemental abilities and helps coach those who aren't outright outfitted with combat powers themselves. For this session he will launch various light attacks with his powers at you, it's your job to shut him down as quickly as you can," she finishes instructing. "Pleasure to meet you, Clarissa!" Phillip announces excitedly, waving at you in a very friendly manner. "Don't worry I won't be throwing too much of my power behind my attacks, that being said this is supposed to be a reasonable demonstration of your powers. Give me all you got!" He shouts.A timer counts down from 5 above you.>Roll a 1d20 for evaluation performance highest roll takes priority

PART 1/2>>6477141>Rolled 15Instructor Phillip lights up—literally, the man is on fire, his silhouette barely visible within the plasma surrounding him. The longer he remains in this form, the hotter the room becomes. Sweat begins to bead on your forehead as the temperature rises dramatically, though Phillip hasn't begun attacking you yet. Perhaps he's testing your endurance to see if you'll pass out, or whether you're capable of extending your negation ability to reach him from your current position. After a while, he snaps himself out of it and begins to ramp up the difficulty. He balls his fists, tensing his body before abruptly releasing the strain and conjuring a ball of fire above his open palm."Like I said, Ms. Hawkins, my goal isn't to hurt you, but please do push yourself to try and stop me," the instructor informs you.WOOSH!The first fireball deliberately misses you by a narrow margin. The flames lick at your skin as they pass, their heat causing you to yelp and spring into motion. More fireballs follow, seemingly without end, as Phillip continues hurling them toward wherever you run. You're unsure whether it's luck or your own abilities, but you haven't been directly hit by anything yet. Professor Jinzi occasionally chimes in, sounding impressed by your speed and reflexes. You manage to get closer and closer to Phillip in the massive chamber, ducking, weaving, diving, and dodging his flames while exerting yourself as little as possible. The heat is starting to get to you, though, and it's only growing more intense. If you don't act fast, the environment will eventually overwhelm you and cause you to fail. You pause where you are, taking advantage of the brief moment before the instructor can throw another fireball, and focus inward. This is how you do it, right?Your lack of practice with this power leaves you uncertain. It's always just kind of... happened. There's something there, though. You can feel it. For the first time since acquiring these powers, you begin to feel as though you have some control over them. It feels almost like channeling a negative, entropic force from within yourself. As you finally release it, you see something that causes your heart to sink.That... thing. The shadow that stalks around your mom's study is now standing right beside Phillip. Its presence causes you to hesitate, but then you notice that it's observing you, almost as if it's giving you a thumbs-up. You push as hard as you can, the heat in the room now beginning to take its toll on you as your powers finally respond!Phillip's plasma aura is suddenly snuffed out, extinguished. You're roughly ten feet away from him when you realize that this might be the minimum distance required for your ability to work. Now you just have to figure out how far you can push it before it pushes back.YOU'VE LEARNED A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT YOUR POWERYou still feel like you need to push harder to develop it further
PART 2/2>>6477519Professor Jinzi chimes in again over the speaker system of the chamber, "you may leave from where you entered, your assessment ranking will be determined in a few minutes," she says before door behind you pops open with a sudden and loud noise. Instructor Phillip comes up to you and puts a hand on your shoulder, causing you to almost double take to see if he's still not able to light himself up or not. He is looking down at you and smiling, "that was great work Ms. Hawkins, you managed to receive minimal damage and you achieved your main objective, I'm sure your ranking will be fitting," he confidently says. The pep talk from the guy who was just hurtling balls of fire in your direction causes your confidence to rise at least a little bit, you have to make your mom proud that's what you keep hearing, that's what you came here to do. You nod at Phillip, gather yourself and go to exit the chamber. It doesn't look like any of the other group are out yet, you explore around their entrances to their own separate assessment chambers. Shin's is loud and he is screaming like he's having a mental breakdown in there, Alex's is quiet. You wonder what yours may have sounded like to anyone who was observing. You make your way to the power ranking, noticing a notification on the screen calling for your name to attend to it at once. You press print when you realize it really is talking about you and when the paper comes out it's a..B RANKINGUnsure of how to feel about this and having little knowledge on the ranking system at the academy, all you know is B rank comes just below A rank students. You feel...>I need to become stronger>This is ok for now>This is a horrible embarrassment for someone of my families status

>>6477522>This is ok for nowWe're just chill like that
>>6477522>This is ok for now.. but I need to get strongerThe adrenaline coursing through your body after successfully avoiding Instructor Phillips's fiery plasma and suppressing his ability is exhilarating. Sure, he may not have been going all out against you, but you still managed to perform well enough to earn a ranking just below the elite students. Just think... if you're capable of achieving this with the minimal training you've received so far, what else could you accomplish with more time dedicated to mastering your powers?Overall, you feel pretty good about your ranking. Mom never really mentioned what tier she fell into when she was a student around your age. You're sure she'll be proud of what you've accomplished so far, anyway. You spend some more time mulling things over when Alex emerges from their chamber, followed by Shin shortly afterward. It looks like Alex has been assigned to Class 1-C. That's not a particularly high tier, though shapeshifting is probably more suited to espionage than direct combat.Shin's assessment places him in Class 1-A. The previously stressed-out student seems a little less anxious now that he's achieved the highest ranking he could have hoped for in this assessment. There's still some time to kill before the rest of the students finish their assessments and you're officially assigned to your squads. What will you do?>Speak with Alex>Speak with Shin>Just wait for the others to come out

This is probably an indication that you'll soon be assigned to a class and, eventually, a squad alongside others of the same rank who have also completed their assessments. Of course, that doesn't mean you're restricted to interacting with people at your own level. As you scan the room, a familiar face catches your attention.Shin.The same boy who had been on the verge of a nervous breakdown before the assessments even began now seems remarkably composed. There's still a hint of nervousness lingering beneath the surface, but it's nothing compared to how he was acting earlier. His eyes remain fixed on his paper until he finally notices you looking in his direction. His expression brightens. He gives you a quick nod before waving you over."Clarissa, look! I got an A rank!" he exclaims, practically beaming with pride. You step closer, taking a moment to examine his assessment paper for yourself.SHIN SAYABAKABILITY ASSESSMENT: 1-AABILITY: PSIONIC OVERLOADYour gaze returns to his face, and for once, you see him wearing a genuine, unrestrained smile. It's a refreshing change from the anxious mess he'd been earlier. However, his moment of triumph doesn't last long. He suddenly brings a hand to his head, wincing as a brief wave of discomfort seems to wash over him. You can only assume his ability is responsible. Whatever Psionic Overload entails, it clearly comes with its own drawbacks. Still, you return his smile and offer him your congratulations."You were so nervous at first, Shin! After all that worrying, you still managed to get one of the highest ranks possible!" you tell him, meeting his gaze.He rubs the back of his head, his earlier confidence faltering just a little before he asks to see your assessment paper. You hand it over, watching as his eyes quickly scan the results. After a moment, he returns it to you."Honestly, the gap in power between B rank and A rank isn't as huge as you might think," he explains, his tone turning reassuring. "A lot of the time, it just comes down to nerves or how well you can control your ability. Raw power isn't everything."You study his expression, trying to determine whether he genuinely believes what he's saying or is simply attempting to make you feel better. Perhaps it's a little of both. You're not entirely sure how to feel about his reassurance. After all, it's difficult not to wonder what separates an A-rank student from everyone else. Still, you appreciate the gesture. Shin might have earned himself an impressive rank, but he doesn't seem intent on looking down on anyone who didn't achieve the same.>How does the ranking system work anyway?>Ask him about his ability>What did they have you do in there?>Wait for all the assessments to be finished and move on
>>6477855>"Thanks for your words. But don't worry for me, I know I can do a lot more">How does the ranking system work anyway?>What did they have you do in there?A little bit of small talk and let's try and hype him up a little
>>6477855>"Thanks for your words. But don't worry for me, I know I can do a lot more">How does the ranking system work anyway?>What did they have you do in there?"Thanks for your words. But don't worry about me. I know I can do a lot more," you tell Shin, your hand lightly tapping his shoulder. Some idle small talk passes between you as you both await the others to finish their assessments. It will probably take a while; there's easily over a hundred kids here for official registration. One of the topics you bring up is the ranking system and what they had Shin do during his power assessment in the chamber. He shrugs. "Ranks are determined by two things, Clarissa. The first, and arguably the most important, is what your registered ability can actually do. Combat abilities are highly sought after in government districts and are pivotal in keeping the peace within New Hope," Shin explains, taking a deep breath before continuing. "That's not to say all A-rank students are combat-oriented. Support-specialized skills can also make the cut. There's a rumor that an older girl attending here in Class 3-A has some sort of clairvoyance ability. Something like that is also very useful." He pauses, finishing his first point. That might've even been what stopped you from getting an A rank: your ability to control and push your own power. Though you lack an understanding of it, you also recall how easy it was to wield during your assessment when you were able to use it properly."The second thing they look at is your ability to handle that power. There are a few different gyms inside the academy that specialize in and cater to most powers. Altogether, both control and the abilities themselves are graded across four tiers... A, B, C, or D. The number just corresponds to what year you're in," Shin finishes explaining."As for what they had me do in there? Whenever I feel a bit of stress, I can store it, which makes my telekinetic power skyrocket. Gives me a horrible headache over time, though!" he tells you excitedly, rubbing the back of his head as he recalls the unfortunate side effect. You sit back with him as more time passes. You notice the B section of the gym filling up quickly, and time with your new friend is running short."Hey... can I ask you something? Is what that shapeshifter said true? Is your mom Hexxed?" he asks.>Yes>Lie

Instead, he simply looks at you and accepts your answer for what it is. Despite this, you feel like you and Shin have grown at least a little closer, the bond between you both tightening and developing into the beginnings of a friendship.CONTACT STATUS UPDATEDSHIN SAYABAKABILITY: PSIONIC OVERLOADRELATIONSHIP: FRIENDLY ACQUAINTANCE"I'll see you later, hopefully," Shin says with a smile as he departs to join the other students gathered in the 1-A section of the gym."ALL ASSESSMENTS ARE COMPLETE! PLEASE LINE UP ACCORDING TO YOUR ASSIGNED RANKINGS, WHERE YOU WILL BE SORTED INTO YOUR SQUADS AND ASSIGNED AN INSTRUCTOR!" a no-nonsense faculty member blares through a megaphone. You group up with the other students assigned to Rank 1-B, and for whatever reason, it seems that B-rank students are in the minority compared to those in the other rankings around you. Perhaps Shin was right about B-rank being assigned to those with abilities capable of reaching A-rank potential but who haven't yet gained proper control over their powers. The students in B-rank don't seem particularly out of the ordinary. It would be difficult to tell that most of the people here have any sort of abilities at all, aside from the few whose physical forms have been altered by theirs. One girl, for instance, has a rather fluffy appearance, with a poofy bunny tail sticking out near her coccyx. Things like that have become pretty commonplace in New Hope, but you can't help feeling a little bad for her in this moment. There doesn't seem to be anyone else in your ranking with a similar appearance who might be able to relate to her right off the bat.You cross your middle and index fingers, "Please give me a good squad, please give me a good squad..." you mutter under your breath, hoping you won't end up permanently assigned to a group where all the work gets delegated to you.>Roll a 1d20also...>I want a no nonsense, powerful instructor!>I don't care how powerful they are as long as they're nice to me!>I don't care I just hope they're hot!
Rolled 11 (1d20)>>6478173>I want a no nonsense, powerful instructor!but if he is a great teacher, it may be possible to compromise about "powerful" part - after all the greatest hero isn`t necessarily the greatest teacher. Not about "no nonsence" part though.

I want a powerful instructor wins! But somebody here rolled a 1... Unless a 20 is rolled before the next update 1 will take priority. The next update will be at around 9pm EDT
Oof. Well, then we could have some fun(of "suffering is fun"-kind) leading insanely, horribly dusfunctional team and hopefully making it less so in the process.
>I want a powerful instructor!ROLLED A 1...Writing now..
PART 1/2>>6478173The other first-year students at the academy have already been getting sorted into groups. As far as you understand, it's tradition for students ranked from A to D to be paired with others in the same assessment ranking. Luckily for you, you should have a more than competent squad, even if they're a bit lacking in their understanding of their own abilities. You put your prejudices aside, as, in all honesty, you're not so different in that department yourself. The first years of 1-B are fewer in number than those in most of the other rankings, though this seems like a blessing for the instructors, as it makes them quicker to organize. However, your instructor doesn't seem to be actively seeking you out, you roam around the grouping area for your rank until you hear a man going over a list. His voice is gruff, aged, and strangely... metallic?OK, LET'S SEE HERE... THEO BARNES, THAT'S A CHECK. NATASHA JUNG, CHECK... JUMA MUGSWOON, CHECK. SO THAT JUST LEAVES... AH, I FORGOT TO CALL OUT FOR HER, you hear the voice say. The way he sounds, it's as if he's trapped inside a tuna can.You have a sudden feeling that this squad might include you. You begin making your way toward the source of the voice when you hear a high-pitched winding-up noise slowly build into—MAY CLARISSA HAWKINS MAKE HER WAY HERE, PLEASE!! the robotic voice announces at a nearly window-shattering volume. Other students, more specifically the couple you've already met, look at you and try to stifle their chuckles. The embarrassment of being called out like that hits you like a truck. If anyone found you mysterious, or if you'd managed to project an air of prestige to those around you, it's undoubtedly been lost on everyone in the vicinity. You quickly make your way toward the spot where your name was called, and there you see your future group!ROLLED A 1!It's not much to look at... and that's putting it nicely. There's one boy whose paper reads Theo Barnes, probably the most put-together member of the group. He's a very overweight boy of a similar age, and the amount of sweat rolling off him just from standing there is impressive, as if he'd gone swimming only moments ago. Another member, a girl named Natasha Jung, is as lanky as they come, constantly shaking and... vibrating the ground? She rapidly shifts her footing around the same spot, and cracks slowly begin to form in the ground if she stands in one place for too long. Lastly, there must be Juma, a dark-skinned boy also around your age. He has a pretty average build but looks like a complete dork, with his thick-rimmed glasses and reserved nature standing out above all else. You try to hide the look of disappointment on your face, but it's so apparent that everyone around you can practically feel it. Your instructor looks at you, expressionless. This man, if he can even be referred to as such, is huge, and completely metallic, appearing almost entirely non-human.
PART 2/2>>6478406The entirely metallic man rests a hand on your shoulder, THERE YOU ARE, CLARISSA, WELCOME TO SQUAD 3. I WILL BE YOUR INSTRUCTOR FOR YOUR ACADEMIC LIFE HERE AT HERO ACADEMY, MY NAME IS CARL, THOUGH YOU'RE WELCOME TO CALL ME BY MY HERO NAME MARTIAL METAL, the booming, tin can voice resounds to you. Other members of your squad don't really look your way, you may come off as intimidating to some of them the way you're nearly completely average appearance is staggeringly leaps and bounds above their own by default. Juma can hardly even maintain looking in your direction without becoming an ashamed mess. >Introduce yourself and be nice>Ask the instructor if he's sure this is the group you're assigned to>Look at the instructor, "a-are you a human?"
>>6478407>>6478407>Introduce yourself and be niceThis "might" be some kind of mistake - then it would SURELY be fixed quickly without risking extra attention. Or, they might be, you know, somewhat capable and competent, just like us, if a bit less...genetically lucky. After all, "not being a bitch" is free.(Its clear to me from the written above, that looks actually DO matter to Clarissa, but common sence should tell her they are not the thing that matters most. Especially when talking superpowers. And they are all also B-class).
>>6478407>>Introduce yourself and be nice
>>6478407>>Ask the instructor if he's sure this is the group you're assigned to
>>6478407>Introduce yourself and be nice
PART 1/2>Introduce yourself and be niceIt's clear to you at this point that the others are too shy to introduce themselves, which leaves it up to you to set the standard."Well... I'm sure you all know who I am," you begin, briefly glancing at Martial Metal as his shoulders heave and groan in what you assume is his attempt at a shrug. "Clarissa Hawkins. My ability is power negation," you tell your newfound squad mates. They all still seem a little on edge, and at this point, you're beginning to wonder if it might not just be because of you. Are they really just naturally this reserved? ALL your squad mates? Well, maybe that'll change over time, you figure. The large boy, Theo, is the first of the others to speak up. "Theo Barnes, Slime Reservoir," he meekly begins, his focus rapidly shifting between the other members of the group. He slicks back his short, perpetually damp-looking hair with ease in an attempt to look cool. The consistency with which he does so makes it seem as though there's a constant supply of hair product being applied to his scalp.CONTACT STATUS UPDATEDTHEO BARNESABILITY: SLIME RESERVOIRRELATIONSHIP RELUCTANT SQUAD MEMBERNext to speak is the lanky, fair-skinned girl, her hair constantly swaying from the vibrations coursing through her body. "Natasha Jung, s-s-s—" she stammers before trailing off."SEISM— SEISMIC SHIFT!" she finally manages to blurt out, brushing her mid-length black hair behind one ear before quickly withdrawing from the conversation out of embarrassment.CONTACT STATUS UPDATEDNATASHA JUNGABILITY: SEISMIC SHIFTRELATIONSHIP RELUCTANT SQUAD MEMBERLast up is the dark-skinned boy whose paper reads Juma. He flaps his hands up and down as if trying to wave the stress out of his body and psych himself up. "Uhm... Juma," is all he manages to say at first, adjusting his thick-rimmed glasses so they sit properly on his face. He pauses, and everyone simply looks at him. It's apparent that he's not used to social situations, let alone ones that put him on the spot like this."Tactical Sonar..." he quickly adds, muttering the words to himself before taking a few steps backward, putting some distance between himself and the rest of the group.CONTACT STATUS UPDATEDJUMA MUGSWOONABILITY: TACTICAL SONARRELATIONSHIP RELUCTANT SQUAD MEMBER
PART 2/2>>6478581Martial Metal produces a large, heavy, resounding clap with his metallic hands. The resulting noise is so invasively loud that it causes the members of the other assessment groups to look over at you all. Again."I LOVE THESE MOMENTS! PIVOTAL GROUP INTRODUCTIONS BOOST BONDING AND TEAM EFFICIENCY RATES BY 4.8%!" he loudly proclaims. The others in your squad simply stare, exchange one more glance with each other, and fall silent once again. Despite the noise coming from the surrounding groups in the gym, the uncomfortable silence within your own squad is so palpable that you could swear you're able to hear crickets chirping in the background.CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!His heavy footsteps clatter and bang against the gym floor, leaving marks in their wake as your instructor makes his way toward a door leading to the academy's outdoor track area."PLEASE, IF YOU WOULD ALL COME WITH ME. I'D LOVE TO JUMP THE GUN AND SHOW YOU ALL A LITTLE SECRET ABOUT TODAY!" your instructor bellows, seemingly incapable of controlling his volume when he speaks. Of course, between his booming voice and heavy movements, whatever he intended to keep a secret is no longer a secret at all.Students from other groups eye you up and give you strange looks. Some of the students from A rank, whom you haven't met yet, snicker amongst themselves, commenting on how an S-rank hero's coaching is wasted on a squad like yours.Wait a minute, S-RANK?!You think to yourself as you watch the towering, refrigerator-sized individual clanging toward the exit, seemingly intent on destroying the gym's hardwood floor with every step.>Move with urgency to see what he wants to show you>Try to chat up a member of your squad as you go>Catch up with your instructor and get to know more about them
From the very optimistic first glance, if Theo could not only produce but control this slime he has a potential to be a close combat monster. And Juma`s ability is exactly the kind of ability we want to pair with ours to operate with chirurgical precision and don`t take unnecessary risks. Now, Natasha...We might want to know, what the exct extend of her abilities before fukky understanding her role.(Clarissa continues to cope that she cannot be assigned to a Loser Squad, SURELY, which means they aren`t a Loser Squad). And for now, let him quickly show and tell what he wants, we could always ask questions after "Any questions?" phrase or some such or at the very least after initial briefing.>>6478583>Move with urgency to see what he wants to show you
>>6478583>Move with urgency to see what he wants to show you
>>6478583>>Move with urgency to see what he wants to show youHey, not bad, Clarissa pulled an S Rank from the teacher gacha. I wonder if we could use our power to help Natasha not need to constantly jump around.
>Move with urgencyThere's a certain sense of foreboding that runs through your entire group when your instructor mentions showing you all a secret. Regardless, you follow suit, and it seems you're not the only ones with eager instructors. You are one of two groups currently out in the incredibly vast field of Hero Academy. The other group consists of some students from 1-A, including Shin. He gives you a friendly wave before returning his attention to whatever his own instructor is about to reveal."BEHOLD!" Martial Metal excitedly exclaims, his heavy metal arms reaching out toward the vast landscape. This field stretches farther than you ever imagined possible. The landmass is enormous, much larger than any park or recreational area you've ever seen. Stations are scattered throughout various sections of the field, including one large ring in the center, equipped with dampeners and surrounded by reinforced glass."IT IS WITH GREAT PLEASURE THAT HERO ACADEMY WELCOMES YOU ALL FOR PASSING YOUR INITIAL ASSESSMENTS! AS A REWARD, WE HAVE PREPARED MANY TEAM-BASED GAMES SO THAT YOU MAY GET TO KNOW ONE ANOTHER AND BOND EVEN FURTHER, SHOULD YOU WISH TO DO SO!" your instructor announces, his voice sounding as though it were trapped inside a tuna can, barely containing its excitement. The school seems to have gone out of its way to show its appreciation for those who qualified and passed their assessments for the new school year. You've heard of these games before, often referred to as the Power Olympics, a nickname coined by Hero Academy's freshmen. Some of the team-based games involve VR equipment for combat simulations and situational scenarios that would otherwise be far too extreme to recreate on school grounds. There are also several A-rank instructors willing to take on groups of four in one-versus-four matches against the more daring and capable students. Meanwhile, the central ring appears to be reserved for one-versus-one or four-versus-four combat between individual students and entire squads.Above the ring hangs a large sign.A-RANK & B-RANK STUDENTS ONLYThe sign boldly proclaims the rule.>Check out the ring in the center of the field>Try out one of the team based games>Just talk to someone (who?)
>>6478629>Just talk to someone (who?)>Talk to the instructor, ask questions.>What is our intended general curriculum for the 1st year? Is this games are just for fun and developing skills or we are "strongly encouradged" to partisipate RIGHT NOW if we dont want to be left behind in any way? And why exactly S-rank hero decided to take this particular B-rank team? Well, educated guess based on Clarissa own performance is "maybe, we all really need to be better in close combat without using abilities, and looking at him - he is exatly the man to teach just that" (maybe state this guess to him to empasise the fact that we are not trying to be rude, just curious during asking).Would also support any polite questions that relate to "what`s going on and what are our plans for the forseeable future"

There will be an update around 5pm EDT where we check out the ring, get to know more about the academy and our instructor, and see if Jung will let us practice our abilities on her from time to time.
