“Awake.”Blissfully warm, Fallon absentmindedly stirred from her position. Wherever she had managed to land herself this time, it felt oddly comfortable and warm. She’d have to thank her mom later for the blanket, she supposed… just after enjoying her nap a little more. The call, or order rather, came again more insistently. “Awake.” Not now dad, she managed to groan. She curled in deeper in the pretense of sleep, hoping that whoever it was would most kindly let her sleep some more. The instigator did not seem to take kindly at her antics though, for then her mind was suddenly flooded with a roar of noise, “Awake!”Fallon rushed to jump from wherever she was sleeping, but found herself unable to do so, being suspended in some sort of liquid. What was that? The voice, which had an imperious quality that only her mother would be able to emulate, didn’t belong to any of her family. More pressingly, was she underwater? She made to open her eyes only to be faced with the realization that she couldn’t see anything regardless. Panicking, she began to flail around her body, pushing against something that felt disturbingly fleshy all around her. Did someone stuff her in a wet sort of balloon or body bag? Screaming was to no avail either, as she couldn’t even make a sound, nor could she hear anything. She wasn’t even sure if she was breathing or if it was possible to even breathe submerged as she was. The thoughts, and quickly dashed hopes, that this was a simple prank has long since left her reasoning and she desperately was running over every possibility of what could have possibly happened to her and her family. Be as it may, the situation was clearly dire and she needed to get out of whatever she was entrapped in now, so Fallon quickly began to attack at the slippery walls with all that she had. Desperately, she leaned in to bite, tear, and rip her prison to shreds before something on her person finally caught into the wall. Instinctively, Fallon tugged against the hook– and the wall finally tore open.
Whatever liquid that contained her poured out of the opening along with Fallon and she was ungracefully deposited on the floor with a phantom gasp, before quivering on the ground in utter exhaustion. She wanted to breathe, to take in lungs full of air but she could not in that sense. She wanted to move, to look for and hide from her potential assailants but all of her energy was drained in the frenzy to escape. Most pressingly of all, she wanted to cry, but was unable to do so. All she could do was shake. But the biological physiology that was so innate to her alien race did not keep her in such a pathetic state for long, and slowly, Fallon came to herself and her surroundings. The reason as to why she couldn’t see was still unclear to her, but she could still feel at least. The ground that she had fallen on was rather soft and most likely saved her from any serious injury. It was also rather warm. In fact, the encasement-balloon-thing that she was encased in was by all indications fairly hot considering that she felt residues of steam flowing and arising from her body. She cocked her head(?) in an attempt to listen to her surroundings and potentially single out her captors but her hearing failed her. Fallon scowled, she could not hear, or see– leaving taste, touch, and smell. Aside from a rather acrid taste in her mouth, taste offered her no information as to where she was. Tentatively, she gave a sniff but her sense of smell was always god-awfully atrocious, a blessing sometimes with how abysmal cooking was at her house usually. Which only left the sensation of touch to play detective for her.She stretched forth her hands, snaking them out to get a feel of her bearings. Only to suddenly realize that she apparently had many, many more hands then she had remembered. And to her dismay, her hands did not feel like hands at all.I need to see. To doubly confirm with my own eyes that what I am feeling is real, Fallon thought to herself distressed. It was but a moment after her thought, came the unbidden eldritch response.
>>6472387“I give you sight, so that you may see, my child.” Suddenly after receiving the revelation, Fallon could see and whatever notions she expected were completely shattered spectacularly. She was in a small antechamber, one of the many that dotted the main chamber before her. The walls, the floors, the everythings were made of glistening flesh which pulsed nauseatingly to an abhorrent beat. Her “hands” were revealed to not be hands at all but little feelers that waved frantically in panic all around her. Behind her was her prison, revealed to be a desiccated egg-sac slowly sagging to the floor. And most dominant of all that she saw was a colossal eye, connected to an innumerable amount of tendrils. In the center blazed an orange cross– and before Fallon could so much scream or otherwise exhibit her horror at the terrible, terrible thing before her, the eyelids retracted revealing The Eye, which fixated on her."Awaken my children, and embrace the glory of your birthright. Know that I am the Overmind, the eternal will, and that you have been created to serve me."The response was tumultuous, as ridged, spiny, and misshapen forms stirred to reveal themselves as insectoid creatures, all that screeched an unholy cacophony of noise in response. Insectoid creatures which looked very, very familiar. For the uninitiated, these were clearly horrifying monsters that wouldn’t have been out of place in a Lovecraftian fiction. But Fallan recognized said monsters, and it could be said that she was even familiar with them. They were the Zerg, a terrifying and very ruthless amalgamation of biologically perfected aliens, made to kill and conquer. And she apparently was now amongst their ranks.Fallon fainted.Roll d100 for humanity damage. Average of first 3 rolls.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xjbTVQL0g8Welcome to “Reincarnated as a Cerebrate! I’ve only played Starcraft 2!” This is actually a story that has been bouncing around my head for years but I never got around to actually working on it. I found /qst/ a couple of weeks ago and am kind of awed at the writing talent some of these QMs have (so far following some of the Imperium quests, Perverse Dragoon, Anabasis, and Great Evangelion Therapist). At the same time, I also see how casual some of the quests are, so I wanted to see if I could do something similar. That being said, I imagine a quest is completely different from your typical writing. I apologize in advance if I don’t do very well but let’s get to it. Though I have a rough idea of what’s to be ahead, you guys will probably drive the narrative in ways that I didn’t expect. In short though, the story will follow Fallon, who tries her best to survive what’s to come in the Starcraft I and II events. She won’t necessarily have the ability to impact the overall plot but she may interact with the main cast. For those of you that are familiar with Starcraft I, Fallon is not THE cerebrate that assists Kerrigan. If you aren’t familiar with Starcraft at all, no worries– Fallon isn’t really familiar either! The most important thing to note though is that she must survive– and you must help her while also helping her maintain her humanity. What is humanity? In short, humanity is what keeps Fallon herself rather than joining into the collective hive-mind of the Zerg, especially with how it currently is with the Overmind/Cerebrate. Having high humanity will help Fallon be empathetic and understand human nuances as well as human tactics. With lower levels of humanity however, Fallon will be more in-sync with the Zerg, leading to better prowess at commanding and manipulating her Zerg forces. There are 5 stages of humanity:>Tier 0 - You are human! Except wait, you actually aren’t. But perhaps one day…?>Tier 1 - Well, you’re definitely not human. But, you have human emotions and human rationale. Human softness. Is that really appropriate for a Zerg commander? Surely the others will notice… >Tier 2 - Your mind swarms with images of fangs, spines, and teeth. But you can still think. You can still feel. Somewhat. >Tier 3 - Your head pounds. It pulses. You must obey. The Swarm is imperative. The Swarm must survive. >Tier 4 - We are Zerg. (Game over! Unless someone is able to somehow intercede on your behalf. Expect nothing of that sort until later. You’re on your own!)We’re starting from Tier 0, 100/100. Note the closer you are to humanity, the more humanity you will lose! Whereas the further you are from humanity, humanity damage is less impactful.
>>6472397Now for some additional quirks to her character. Fallon has a mixed heritage of Irish-German-Korean and is a second-generation immigrant from South Korea. Although she was in college for a bit, she had to drop out in order to help support the family business. Her life consisted primarily of: Wake up. Go to work. Eat. Go home. Play games. Sleep late. Repeat. 0 social life outside of her family. But before all of this, what did she do?>Was a successful student and college student– able to study for hours without burning out. She had an uncanny amount of will when it came to doing the things she wanted to achieve. Ambitious but in the end, still family orientated. (+Will, important for asserting dominance/resisting dominance). >Was intensely into Kumdo, archery, and martial arts– a ferocious little sprite as her uncle liked to call her. She frequented the family dojang her uncle owned until it closed down a couple of years ago. (+Ferocity, though one can only wonder how useful those skills are if she’s a Cerebrate)>Was a small-time faceless streamer who led her own clan in a variety of cooperative multiplayer games. She also played for her college e-sports team and briefly dabbled with professional e-sports. (Effects from game-choice enhanced, basic sense of leadership/command)>She didn’t really do anything. Life just kind of happened in a blur. But she helped her family out a lot and they were constantly supportive of her in hopes that she’d pick up an interesting endeavor of her own. (Supportive family, can recall of them often for +Humanity)>Write-inRegardless, Fallon’s favorite pastime was playing PC games– a habit she picked up from the rest of her family, much to the exasperation of her mother. Is there a guide somewhere for Quests outside of sticky? I never played DND either so I’m not quite sure how dice rolls work. And is there anywhere I can copy/paste my results to ensure formatting is correct?

>>6472399Setting up a tripcode is basically choosing a handle (like New QM) in the 'Name' field, then you put in ##[0000] after it. Just swap out those zeroes with numbers you're gonna remember. For example:In the name field: Dicks ##[1234]You can look at the /qtg/ discussion thread and ask for assistance there--we're usually pretty friendly if you're asking questions! As for copy/pasting? I recommend having a Google Doc or something that you write your shit in, but I'm sure other people have other options too.

>>6472448Supa dead board, very little activity compared to before. Quests used to be hosted on /tg/ and more rarely on /a/, but we got shunted into this containment board, because the locals thought we were crowding out their own threads. With the narrow scope of the board, we don't get enough traffic to survive. Though quests were popular enough to make it off-site and thrive, and to sustain the population initially, we've been circling the drain for a while now. There was an attempt to reenergize the board with new blood through an advertisement campaign, which worked for a while, but now we're dying again. QM thread general and Discord drama didn't help.Still, there's some stuff worth reading/playing here. It's worth keeping the medium alive. Here's a link to the archives: https://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html for qst and https://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html for tg. After we split from tg, the archive quests are archived on is the qst page, the tg page is for their shit exclusively now. There's also archive.moe or some others for reading the shit that people don't bother/forget to properly archive on suptg, but be warned, you should use an ad blocker and have a decent antivirus if you plan to use moe.Good luck QM. (Effects from game-choice enhanced, basic sense of leadership/command)simps love sucking up to gamer gurls.>Grand strategy games, like Europa IV, Stellaris,So we actually know how to use a brood and build bases/armies.QM I wouldn't worry about fucking up the canon too much. As Zerg, we have the least possible ability to do so. The only thing I can think we can really fuck up is saving the Cerebrate of One aka Kerrigan's pet cerebrate, from being assassinated by the Protoss. OG Kerrigan may have been queen bitch of the universe and extremely vengeful but she REALLY liked that cerebrate enough to make an enemy out of the Protoss and even Jim for it. She was also surprisingly sentimental, all things considered. Otherwise, she never would have spared Raynor or try to avenge/replace her lost favorite pet cerebrate.Saving Kerrigan's pet cerebrate would keep her from being so hostile to the Protoss. Terrans are fucked tho unless they're with Raynor. She always secretly played nice with him and isn't fond of other Terrans due to being a ghost and betrayal. The only exception is Raynor's Raiders thanks to Jim and the Magistrate.Too bad the protoss or jim never realized that one of the Cerebrates they assassinated belonged to her and made her go on the war path against the Protoss for it. That was the real reason why she targeted the protoss. Kerrigan is EXTREMELY vengeful but secretly very sentimental. She previously didn't care for the Protoss, except for a personal spat with Tassadar but that was more competitive than anything. So losing her personal cerebrate to their assassination, unsurprisingly, pissed her off more than anything because she didn't get along very well with the other cerebrates and it was the only member of the Zerg she was closest to by far.
This is a quest I can get behind. I'm looking forward to whatever you're cooking, QM.>>6472399>Was a successful student and college student– able to study for hours without burning out. This board and /diy/ tend to have more consistently interesting content.>>6472463I mean, she did kill off a ton of over cerebrates including the player character one at the end of events in SC1 because she didn't find them useful anymore. Kerrigan is a massive bitch through and through. Her shift in character in SC2 was an awful whiplash. IMO, everything after Wings of Liberty is ass. You know why.
>>6472399>Was intensely into Kumdo, archery, and martial arts– a ferocious little sprite as her uncle liked to call her. She frequented the family dojang her uncle owned until it closed down a couple of years ago. (+Ferocity, though one can only wonder how useful those skills are if she’s a Cerebrate)>Sandbox games, like MinecraftI can imagine having done production streamlining in games like Factorio or Satisfactory would come in handy here. Give her some ferocity so she can backhand any uppity little drones with her mind when they don't work fast enough.
>>6472560She killed the cerebrates because they were more loyal to the Overmind which threatened to re-enslave her again. Truthfully, she never got along with any of them except for her pet cerebrate of one. Brood War protag cerebrate was offered a future in which it 'might' survive but then they changed their minds in SC2 to replace them with Queens, so...yeah, that didn't work out.Even infested Kerrigan did notably still care about Raynor's Raiders Otherwise she never would have spared them as she was more than willing to slaughter any other Terrans and only decided 'fuck the protoss' after they killed her favorite Cerebrate. Before that, they technically did her a favor by killing the Overmind, and it took out that annoyng protoss Tassadar too! So it was a double win for her until she realized those fuckers killed her favorite cerebrate too.SC2 story sucked ass so hard completely ruining both Raynor's and Kerrigan's character. Not that there weren't plotholes in the first game but holy fuck, it was never that terrible. That was still during the first good campaign. It just got worse from there...I still stand by the fact that Queen Bitch of the Universe Kerrigan is the best Kerrigan. However, her character has a bit more nuance than people give her credit for. She isn't a pure psycho and that is what makes her terrorifying. She remembers what humanity is and sees her new self as an upgrade. She is insanely vengeful, extremely vicious, and only let's slip tiny bits of 'care' under very specific sentimental reasons. It was apparent 'slips' of humanity that fooled Raynor, after all but he didn't know about Kerrigan's Cerebrate either; technically, not that it would have changed things given how insanely vengeful she is. Arguably those slips of 'humanity' was actually her being sentimental, not any remaining dregs of humanity that they tried to retcon in SC2.Anyway we are playing Zerg, so there is very little we can do to change much of canon. Except maybe Kerrigan decides she likes a another cerebrate and we somehow save the Cerebrate of One from being ganked by the Protoss. Which to be fair, they had very good reason for assassinating, since it spearheaded he invasion of Aiur but Kerrigan is never gonna care about that.

For example ordering a larva to twirl 360° in the ground is probably a feasible and easy task something like a low DC of 10 for pass it would be fine, but its ultimately pointless for Fallon has an action beside attempting to distract herself with something that "might" be fun and harmless. Instead assaulting an heavily fortified place or fighting actual armies will be probably very hard to do (instead of say small forces or weak forces such has underequipped colonial militias or colonial police) and be represented by high DC. Her frail body felt stronger and she was beginning to feel some control over her limbs now. Her many, many limbs, which she unfortunately was able to confirm was tendril-like in form. Said tendrils weren’t limited in function to just feeling, she was also being acclimatized to be able to “hear” and appallingly enough, even pick up scents with them. What she could not do however, was move around with them. Embarrassingly enough, her tendrils could not, as of yet, physically lift her off the ground. She tried shouting, first for help, then at her captor, asking it to release her, and then cursing it for not. But she didn’t seem to have vocal cords– she didn’t even know if she even had a mouth.I have no mouth and I must scream, she thought to herself with utter dread.[blue]20 Humanity Lost (10x2), Humanity Tier 0, 63/100 [/blue]But Fallon couldn’t give up, so she tried her damnest best to vocalize something, anything!A tinny, pitiful squeak briefly echoed into the passageway, the sound quickly sucked up by the fleshy insulating walls. But perhaps it was surprising enough that her captor paused for a moment, before continuing on its path.Well, maybe she could make at least a little bit of noise.[blue]4 Humanity Restored (2x2), Humanity Tier 0, 67/100 [/blue]With little to no recourse left, Fallon contemplated her situation instead. What was she doing before all of this? Her family had celebrated her birthday a week prior, with her brother gifting her a copy of Starcraft: Remastered only a couple of months after it was released. He teased that Fallon no longer had the excuse of not trying out Starcraft 1 because of “the terrible graphics”, to which she pointedly countered that it didn’t change the overall clunkiness and terrible pathfinding the game was a little infamous for. It was true though that her main point of contention was the horribly out-of-date graphics and a week later out of boredom, she booted it up.With the community as finely [i]aged[/i] as Starcraft 1, she elected to avoid the probably extremely sweaty Versus gamemode and decided to check out the campaign instead. She had found the campaign for Starcraft II enjoyable enough and did a “Let’s play LOTV” playthrough a year or so back. Mildly cringing at the campaign UI, she pressed Start, of course right after she thought it would probably be better to stream it instead.
>>6472871…Did she fall asleep? Fallon simply couldn’t remember what had happened next. What she could clearly remember though was the very vivid surroundings when she was “blessed” with sight. No matter how she tried recollecting her memory, it came to her picture clear as if she was reliving the moment in the present. Never before did Fallon ever have the ability of eidetic memory, although it sure would have helped her while she was studying for university.Regardless of what happened in her memory lapse, it was clear that 1. She was no longer on Earth and 2. She was surrounded by aliens which look very, very familiar to her and 3. She didn’t even seem to be human anymore. There was only one unbelievable conclusion she could make, [i]somehow[/i], she was transported into the Starcraft universe and transformed into a sort of creature that belonged to the Starcraft II zerg race.Running through her now crystal clear memory again, she identified most of the creatures she saw as zerglings, larvas, egg sacs, drones, mutalisks, and to really seal in the deal, the titular hydralisk. There were quite literally hundreds of them within the fleshly folds of the chamber that could very well be a hatchery. There were also a couple of other creatures that she didn’t recognize, a shifty looking scorpion-silverfish critter that slunk in a dark corner, skittering little crabs along with a heavy-spider like– oh that’s a lurker, and other darker silhouettes that she could not make out right away.Actually seeing the zerg in in-person was completely different from seeing them from a top-down perspective, especially because they looked so real, if not slightly different than their in-game counterparts. Although they looked a little different than she had expected– Fallon snorted to herself, as if she was ever going to expect seeing Zerg in-person– it basically confirmed to her that yeeep, she was in Starcraft, somehow. Or at least, she belonged to the Zerg race.
>>6472872Which begged the question, what the fuck was she? The Zerg, as far as she was aware, were biological amalgamations perfected by a rigorous amount of mutations and evolutions– meant to utterly destroy and dismantle their opponents with an atrocious amount of physical power or through sheer swarms of death. She, on the other hand, felt like the weakest being on Earth(?). Fallon was never exactly a stellar example of physical human prowess but WOW. The amount of strength she could muster was absolutely pathetic, a child could probably pin her down and render her immobile. Wait, no, she wasn’t even capable of independently moving on her own– she was at the mercy of the now-identified drone carrying her off to god-knows-where. A worker unit!Maybe she was a larva? That sounded plausible, considering most zerg units spawned from larva. But even larva had the ability to inch and scoot their way around. Additionally, larvas were encased in a durable exoskeleton. Maybe she was an adolescent larva?A more darker thought came to Fallon. If she was in the “real world,” so to speak, dictated by real world logic– how do the Zerg sustain themselves? How do they eat? Was she perchance, meat? It would explain much, why she felt so helpless, why she felt so soft. Panic began to bubble within her once more. Was she going to be eaten?>Fallon is clearly an adolescent larva!>Fallon is clearly zerg-fodder and is going to be eaten!>Write-in[green] 3 votes for student, 2 votes for streamer. >>6472918We're still kind of in the development stage and I'm taking every opportunity to chip away humanity to be honest. I think I could definitely have written better though. I'm not quite sure how fast I should take this quest-- but how soon would you guys like to be directly involved in canon? Just kind of taking it slow because Fallon doesn't really have that drive the other Cerebrates have just yet. I can't see her willingly slaughter Terrans just yet, though she eventually will have to. Also trying to figure out what personality you guys will end up giving her-- she's just your average person who likes gaming and not even necessarily Starcraft.Speaking of gaming, still taking votes on what set of games she liked to play. I think for votes I should state a time window so people can still pick without me having to wait for responses.
>>6472874>Fallon is clearly an adolescent larva!
>>6472940Just assigning her to fight against the Protoss is an easy thing to do. The Zerg only got lured to Terran space once they discovered Terrans had Ghosts, which was an irresistible lure to Zerg because they struggle with finding psychic potential species to absorb. With the Zerg came the Protoss to fight them but they didn't find out 'why' the Zerg targeted the Terrans until it was too late. This was despite how shit the infested Terrans were to the point of being explosively unstable, which got treated as a feature instead of a bug. Took them a while to work out the baseline kinks of infested terrans...The zerg depending at what time the quest starts might not even know Terrans exist yet and they didn't care about them until they discovered the ghosts. As the Zerg were still waging their holy war against the Protoss the whole time. Otherwise, the Zerg also had cerebrates specialized for other tasks like exploration, resource gathering, and research. They had to find new lifeforms to absorb somehow and it took time to work out the kinks in their discoveries. The war cerebrates also had their own specialties and preferences, which they tailored their Broods for.In terms of canon events, the impact of the MC is limited on account of being Zerg. The only real canon events players can fuck with are Kerrigan's angle. It's not like we can get involved with Terran and Protoss shenanigans. Well...technically the Enslaver's mini campaign is canon. That series of events involves all three parties without Kerrigan. Mostly just Zeratul.
>>6472874>>Fallon is clearly an adolescent larva!
>>6472874Got to do my homework, but I am writing!>>6472996That's a good idea-- I was going to have her fight Protoss mainly at first. I checked the timeline and I'm not exactly sure when Zerg-Protoss first made contact. I wouldn't be surprised if each other's scouts mutually found each other long before any actual conflict began. If I had to guess, the Zerg were made aware of the Protoss existence first thanks to Amon's machinations.First, some basic exercises and then war games! I'll be taking my own spin of how Cerebrates work here's a hint mini cerebrates!.
>>6472874>>Fallon is clearly zerg-fodder and is going to be eaten!Hey, since this is a vote without an actual consequence, might as well PANIC.Pretty shitty isekai all things considered. Could be worse, could be much better.
>>6473100Zerg and Protoss waged a holy war long before humanity even became civilized. Other intelligent xenos are also a thing because Felix and the protoss protag apparently fought them together as they were mentioned. Most of their fighting is between each other and it's a mutual holy war.Zerg seek completion of mind to perfect their form ala Xelnaga via assimilating the Protoss, which was corrupted by Amon. The Zerg and Protoss were purposefully divided between body(zerg) and Protoss(mind). Then issues arose between the Zerg and Protoss originally over THEOLOGY(hence why it was always a HOLY War). Later in Starcraft 2 this was completely changed because Amon suddenly became the BBEG completely ignoring the entirety of buildup between the Zerg and Protoss conflict always being a theological debate turned Holy War.Terrans were the uh...unfortunate witnesses and bystanders caught up in that Holy War(they were always meant to be a little guy caught in a huge war far beyond their wildest imagination between two alien almighty powers). The reason for this is painfully simple. The Zerg found psionics among them and they realized they no longer NEEDED to assimilate the Protoss to achieve perfection of Form, which was always the original goal of the Overmind. As it was one of the few who actually met the Xelnaga themselves when they were created. An extreme honor that only a few of Protoss and Zerg can personally recall.Kerrigan was the first successful prototype of this because her psionics were so superbly strong akin to a Protoss unlike the vast majority of ghosts. This is why the Zerg explicitly hunted down Kerrigan because she was the strongest human psion they could find. If not her, the Zerg would have hunted down Nova. It was why Overmind treated Kerrigan as his 'chosen holy apostle' because she was the closest to achieving its Holy Mission and why she got special treatment, much to the annoyance of the Cerebrates.Naturally SC2 completely covered this up along with making the Terrans no longer space redneck Aussies lost in space caught up in a super alien Holy War desperately trying to not accidentally get extincted by both powers. Amon existing for SC2 really fucked everything up. In the original SC1 you had 5 major villains(Mengsk, Kerrigan, UED, Duran, and Ulrezaj) already planned out for the sequal instead of the trash plot of SC2...with Amon who was never even built up before then, and completely ruined so much plot, characterization, and worldbuilding. In terms of MC, just have her fight the Protoss. It may be a while before she even finds out Terrans exist at all!
>>6473199according to the plot after SC1 the planned protags were meant to be Jim Raynor and Zeratul because they were each held major grudges towards the main villain caste that was prepared for SC2. Which wasn't Amon...Duran was meant to be a prelude to a secret plot that wasn't originally meant to ruin everything. Hinting that something 'else' was gonna happen. Keep in mind the EUD was from a mere EXPEDITIONARY force quickly put together as an emergency response to Xenos. They weren't the main war host that was being prepared and meant to follow. They were the Vanguards at best. There weren't any hints about who the Zerg protag was meant to be. The EUD was supposed to show up for round 2 in SC2 and this time it would be a proper response after field testing the Koprulu sector and Xenos. SC2 was originally planned out to be an absolute epic clusterfuck while a sinister plot was going on behind the scenes...
>>6472874 5 votes for larva! Cue optimism! She was a larva. She was most definitely a larva. A larva of some sort. Although Fallon never considered herself to be an optimist, she didn’t mind starting now! Because the alternative was… something she’d rather not think about. At all. But being a larva would imply even more questions. What if she spawned as a zergling? Would she split into two? Or what if she became a drabby meatbag overlord? Or even a large brutish ultralisk? Or even a drone, forced to mine forever and perhaps one day be ordered to morph into some sort of zerg structure doomed to be permanently immobile. Well surely it was better than being meat? She was definitely a larva. A larva without a protective carapace, a pathetic sort of larva, and she was definitely not mea-Wherever her train of thought was going, it was interrupted as the drone carrying her suddenly came to a stop. It lazily made its way to a designated spot before dropping her unceremoniously dropping her to the ground.Oof, Fallon mentally complained. The drone clacked its mandibles together a couple of times, as if stretching them out before. Fallon winced at the whistle of wind with each clack– it was good that she didn’t do anything in particular to upset it. As squishy as she was, it could have definitely chomped her in two if it wanted to.Perhaps realizing that Fallon was face-down on the ground, the drone decided to pick her up once more, setting her upright before going back the way it came from. As it turns out, drones do float like they do-ingame Fallon noted. Questions about how they did so were swept away as she focused on her locomotive ability. Her feelers flailed again, to no avail. God, it absolutely sucked to be a larva, or whatever she was. She hoped that she wouldn’t stay like this long. Even banelings are able to waddle around at least. Though she’d have to morph into a zergling(s?) first. And it would suck to be a baneling as endearing as they were. She snorted at the image of herself rolling around to get to places.
>>6473433“Rouse yourself Cerebrates,” a voice shrewdly called. Fallon froze. Another voice in her head. Unlike the previous dominating (and terrifying) voice though, this one had a feminine tonality to it.“I am Daggoth,” it continued, “firstborn of the Cerebrates. As is usually the case, I am entrusted with the development of newly spawned Cerebrates until they have properly matured and have been delegated positions within the Zerg Swarm.” Fallon felt a questioning scrutiny on her briefly, before the feeling moved on. This Daggoth it seemed was telepathic. It wasn’t an unfamiliar concept at all to Fallon because it was a common troupe in fiction– what was more important was the power behind it, psionic prowess. It was the reason why terran ghosts were able to cloak, why protoss templars could cast psi-storm, and why Kerrigan was able to use her powers in the campaign.More questions began buzzing in her head. Where was Kerrigan anyways? Who is Daggoth? What is a Cerebrate?“You belong to the eighteenth generation of Cerebrates spawned by the Overmind, the largest generation of Cerebrates spawned yet,” Daggoth continued, seemingly not only addressing her but others, “...due to the strenuous efforts required, the Overmind is currently indisposed.” She felt a trace of concern over the connection before it dissipated. “Nevertheless, the Overmind watches over us even as they slumber.” …It seemed that Kerrigan didn’t exist in this universe, or did not exist yet. Kerrigan was cured of her zergness, and then zerged herself again purpler. Now that Fallon thought about it, she wasn’t aware at all of the events preceding Starcraft II. Dismay began to fill her, if she was in a period that didn’t belong with the canonical events she was familiar with, how on earth(?) was she supposed to know what was going to happen? Her eidetic memory unfortunately didn’t extend prior to her transformation so Fallon racked her head the best she could. The Overmind was something that came up during the Protoss portion of the Terran campaign, which she thankfully completed even though it was optional. It insinuated that the Overmind was an important figure to the Zerg in the past, and discerning how deferential Daggoth was to it, it’s safe to assume that the Overmind was a leading figure.…The Overmind was also very dead during the campaign. Seeing that it was alive but rather unavailable, Fallon was able to hesitantly confirm that she was in events prior to his death– meaning she was in the past and not the future. That still didn’t change the fact that she had 0 clue what happened, only little of what was to come.
>>6473434“-mmanders of the Zerg. In order to begin coordinating the lesser Zerg, you must first become aware of your psionic abilities.” Whoops, she wasn’t paying attention. Err, as a Cerebrate, act as a caretaker and strengthen– improve the swarm by all means possible, be a commander, etc. There’s around four hundred (412, Fallon corrected herself), of me, or us– cerebrates in this generation. God, this ability would have helped a lot during university– at least she got something out of being a Cerebrate. Or was eidetic memory a characteristic all Zerg had? “With so many of you however, I will be assisted by fellow Cerebrates. Once connected, follow their instructions to the letter.” Daggoth concluded.Whatever connection she had to Daggoth was cut and Fallon was left with her own thoughts. Tentatively, she waited for the promised connection with another Cerebrate but time passed before she realized she probably wasn’t going to be talked to anytime soon. With that in mind, she began processing more information. She, along with four hundred more, were apparently Cerebrates (with a capital C?). Fallon wracked her brains but she had absolutely zero clue what a Cerebrate was. They weren’t mentioned at all during the Starcraft II campaign. Cerebrate, cerebral, something to do with the brain? It would explain her photographic memory and the role cerebrates had.“Greetings, Cerebrate,” a voice snarled. Fallon nearly jumped, except of course she couldn’t.“I am Zasz, of the eleventh generation of Cerebrates, head of the Garm brood.” Fallon felt a hint of pride from the last portion. Zasz paused in assessment. “You are… different.” Fallon squeaked nervously.“Hi?” she tried to reply. Zasz gave no indication of hearing however, as they continued. “As Daggoth was saying, in order to command the lesser Zerg, you must achieve a psionic prowess capable of reach in addition to having a large degree of control. Take hold of the powers given to you and utilize it. Do you feel it?”Feel what? Was she supposed to feel something?Roll for initial psionic prowess! Best of three rolls, + little bonuses from participation rolls!
>>6473435>Hello hello! As you can see, I am taking some creative liberties, I hope you all don’t mind. Daggoth obviously doesn’t have a feminine tonality, you can listen to it here: “https://youtu.be/gMZtM7LPA2Y?si=LIfM7MfyXHbCs17p&t=95” but I just went ahead and added it so Fallon will be able to blend in with the other Cerebrates a little easier when she telepathically communicates with them. And no, Cerebrates don’t have reproductive organs– they are made directly from the flesh of the Overmind itself. Which makes them different from the other Zerg and of course, also ties a severe dependency to the Overmind. Not that Fallon knows that yet! I wouldn’t want to explain everything just yet, but if you guys ask I’ll probably acquiesce.>Telepathy is obviously a problem– so telepaths simply aren’t able to discern any memories Fallon has prior to or pertaining to her reincarnation. A bit of plot armor but for the sake of the story, it’s there. It definitely brings more questions to Fallon’s existence though and will make her interesting in ways she’d probably rather not prefer.>As one of you guys said, some of these rolls are pretty inconsequential. Mostly, I just kind of want to see how you all perceive Fallon and her personality– ultimately the choices, decisions, and dialogues you pick out for her will determine her personality. So, feel free to make silly votes if you’d like. We’re still in a formative stage where there will still be background choices and whatnot, so please bear with me.>>6473202You seem to have a pretty big understanding of Starcraft I and how the authors intended for it to play out. Unfortunately since we’ll have to adhere to the Starcraft II plotline, I don’t think I can stay super true to what you have to say– especially since I’m not really a good or thoughtful writer. Apologies in advance!>>6473110The fact that she reincarnated into a (rather minor) Cerebrate, or the concept itself is shitty? Either way, it could definitely be better…>Also, I just realized I accidentally titled the quest as “Reincarnated as a Cerebrate? I’ve only played Starcraft I”. >>6473435Highest roll of 96, + Bonus of 12.4! Fallon’s initial psionic prowess: 108.4!…! She honestly had no clue what Zasz really meant by “feel it”, -was he being intentionally vague and unhelpful or what- but perhaps because the psionic connection was a more intimate one-to-one was she able to grasp onto that tether herself and…“Hi!” she called out again, this time with a degree of success! The silence that followed was so deadened that you could have heard a pin drop. It seemed that whatever script Zasz had planned was derailed and Fallon once again felt nervous.“Why are you nervous, Cerebrate?” Oh shoot, could he feel my thoughts? Could he read them- “Yes.” Zasz confirmed irritatedly. “In your clumsy attempt to communicate, you have opened up a direct one-way telepathic path of communication.” Zasz paused. “Direct, but distracting. I had expected a better sense of psionic control for a Cerebrate gifted with a small amount of talent. But I suppose a small amount of talent is a small amount of talent. Allow and observe what it means to use our gift.” Fallon blinked and suddenly she was Zasz. “Um…errrraaughhh,” she-they said. This felt horribly violating as Zasz just… merged them together without even asking for permission except that it wasn’t because she was Zasz and Zasz was her and nothing is really hidden from fellow Cerebrates and what the fuuuu-They were pulling, reaching for something that welled a little below her surface before firmly grasping it and directing it with firm intention in mind– to connect psionically with some creature-Fallon-her. Then they became Fallon once more. Suddenly, she felt utterly nauseated because what the fuck just happened.“Now, try and replicate that feeling.” Fallon acquiesced to the order and did her best. To reach within herself…Whatever it was that Zasz had shared with her, it had required significantly less effort than she was putting in now. She had to strain her reach even further until she felt it. It was considerably less than what Zasz had and it felt that it would slip out at any moment– like holding a wet bar of soap but she finally had it within her grasp. She felt a flush of triumph go through her while simultaneously worrying that it would slip out any moment now-“Use it.” came the curt command. Fallon twitched, annoyed that her moment of accomplishment was interrupted.Use it for what? A little hint would be nice, she thought exasperated.“Whatever it is that you desire,” came the annoyed response. Oops, it looks like her thoughts had transmitted through. It was kind of a sign that she had a better grasp on her power now.‘Whatever it was that I desired…’Well then. I want to see, Fallon decided.
>>6473753Well then. I want to see, Fallon decided. And suddenly, she could see! A dizzying amount of visual feedback came rushing through her head and Fallon quickly cut off her ability before she could faint once more.“I did it!” she crowed, only to meet silence. Zasz had apparently already ended their connection, no doubt initiating her with the bare minimum before leaving elsewhere. She huffed. What a churlish Cerebrate.Fallon waited but a moment to see if Zasz would return, then focused back on herself. She had magic, supernatural powers! Giddily, she wondered what exactly she could do with them. Shoot lightning? Cloak? Obliterate the minds of those hundreds of miles away?Focus, she chided herself. Her first objective, to see. She was almost overwhelmed again with the information overload from seeing. Perhaps it was best to limit her vision first.Grasping her powers once more (it felt as though she had less before, but she heedlessly disregarded that), Fallon carefully graduated her vision. It was interesting to “see” psionically. Her vision now appeared to be a murky black and white and while it was certainly less overwhelming, she didn’t really want to live in a noir film for the rest of her life. She frowned. Surely there was a better way to see, at least somewhat akin to when she was first given sight?Trickling in a little bit more power, Fallon’s eyesight sharpened. To her joy, she could see colors once more, some in vibrant shades that she hasn’t even seen before! And in the middle of the vision, previously unnoticed, was a rather misshapen strange blob of glowing flesh that was laid out on the ground rather pitifully. She tried waving at it, only for it to wave its feelers aimlessly off to the distance as well. Next, she tried positioning her feelers towards where her eyes were, only to watch the blob move its feelers in a meticulously manner as well.Stumped, she stared at it mindlessly, before wildly flailing her arms in frustration. The blob did the same. She stopped. The blob stopped.Hesitantly, she raised her rightmost-feeling feeler, then her leftmost feeler. The blob mirrored her actions. Her eyesight wasn’t actually situated at her eyes or her face. It was in a third-person perspective. Which meant-Oh my god, she was the blob Fallon realized.Time to experiment with more dice. Roll a 2d4 for humanity damage! Someone roll quickly so I can keep it going

Humanity damage 12 (6x2) 45/100 Tier 0Well, at least she was shiny and glowy. Describing her appearance was easy enough– for one, she was definitely not a larva (and who would have put such an irrational thought in her head). Larvas at least had a distinct silhouette, being encased in protective exoskeleton, jutting spikes, and other insectoid features which were characteristic to a majority of Zerg. Fallon however, did not look Zerg-like at all. Rather instead, she emitted a soft yellow bioluminescence which for the most part hid her form to any would-be casual onlookers. The only things visible were tendrils which gently drifted rhythmically with her natural sway of body. Really, she would almost call herself ethereal looking if not for the fact that she looked like a misshapen blob. Any thought of being a graceful angel-like being plummeted as she distantly watched herself flop around rather helplessly like a dying fish. She was curious to see what she actually looked like within the light she was glowing. Fallon could probably zoom in and take a closer look if she wanted to…>Take a closer look and try to get more details on what you look like.Roll d100, DC20. >>6474047Inwardly sighing again at her capacity to move, Fallon instead brought her attention back to her newfound ability to see. Oh, her surroundings were still very much the same: fleshy with bits of cartilage sticking out at random places, the odd tentacles that seemed to writhe at random, and a subtle but simultaneously ever-present loud pumping of blood which very much reminded her that it was all alive. At the edge of her vision, it was pitch black, as if she was surrounded by fog-of-war. It wasn’t that she was surrounded by literal void, her vision simply didn’t encompass beyond the radius it was currently set at. Her metaphorical lips slightly quirked, it was as if she was playing Starcraft but instead of a top-down perspective, she was playing with a more zoomed-in third person perspective. She distinctively remembered her brother ranting about how Starcraft: Ghost was canceled and wondered what he’d think of all of this.Probably would have creamed his pants, being the Starcraft addict that he is. Fallon made a face at the analogy and decided it was better not to try visualizing it.She wasn’t exactly sure how far her vision extended, since she had no idea how to measure it. She didn’t even know how big she was. If only she had something familiar she could use for scale, like a banana…Wherever she was, she wasn’t alone. Beyond the darkness, Fallon psionically felt other presences. Many, many more presences. Some clearly dominated in terms of aura, or for the lack of better word, presence. A majority however were much more faint, if not barely noticeable. One of those presences felt close, just barely out of reach.>Try to psionically connect with one of the more dominant presences.
